Griffin Herring SP | COL
Rockies' Griffin Herring: Dealt to Colorado in McMahon trade
Herring and an additional pitching prospect were traded to the Rockies from the Yankees on Friday in exchange for Ryan McMahon, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.
Herring, a sixth-round pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, will get a fresh start in the Rockies organization after being involved in the deal centered around McMahon. The 22-year-old Herring has made 16 starts this season across Low-A and High-A, totaling a 1.71 ERA and a 102:36 K:BB across 89.1 innings.

Luis Garcia SP | HOU
Astros' Luis Garcia: Sharp in latest rehab start
Garcia (elbow) struck out two over two perfect innings in his latest rehab start Saturday for Single-A Fayetteville.
After making two rehab starts in the rookie-level Florida Complex League, Garcia reported to a full-season affiliate last weekend. The Astros have been easing the right-hander along in his rehab, as he's covered exactly two innings in each of his three starts while giving up one earned run and posting a 9:0 K:BB. Per MLB.com, Garcia is slated to make his next start Sunday with Double-A Corpus Christi, though it's unclear if the Astros plan on having him increase his workload.

Cristian Javier SP | HOU
Astros' Cristian Javier: Makes 49-pitch rehab start
Javier (elbow) struck out a batter and allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks over 2.2 innings in his rehab start Thursday for Triple-A Sugar Land.
Making the third start of his rehab assignment following stops in the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Double-A Corpus Christi, Javier built up to 49 pitches in Thursday's outing. He'll likely need to push his pitch count up into the 75-90 range before the Astros are comfortable inserting him into the big-league rotation, so the right-hander is expected to require at least two more rehab starts. Javier compiled a 3.89 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over his seven starts with Houston in 2024 before undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery last June.

Hunter Greene SP | CIN
Reds' Hunter Greene: Four Ks in first rehab start
Greene (groin) struck out four batters and gave up on no hits and one walk over two scoreless innings Wednesday in his rehab start in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
Greene made his first appearance at any level since June 3, with a right groin strain having kept him out of commission for nearly two months. Due to the length of his absence, Greene will likely need at least two more starts in the minors to get stretched out to a typical starter's workload before the Reds bring him back from the 15-day injured list. He's expected to throw a side session Sunday before moving up to Triple-A Louisville for his next rehab outing Tuesday.

Jason Alexander SP | HOU
Astros' Jason Alexander: Loses to Athletics
Alexander (1-1) took the loss Thursday against the A's after giving up five runs on 11 hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.
The Athletics were able to consistently generate offense against Alexander, as they scored in all but the first and third innings. The right-hander was called up from Triple-A Sugar Land to start Thursday and now has a 4.20 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 9:7 K:BB over 15 frames in three outings with the Astros. Alexander could receive another turn through the rotation next week against Washington given the plethora of injuries Houston's pitching staff is dealing with, but the organization may elect to go in another direction.

Luis Severino SP | ATH
Athletics' Luis Severino: Success continues on road
Severino (4-11) earned the win Thursday in Houston after striking out eight and giving up two runs on four hits and no walks over seven innings.
It's the second straight victory for Severino, who has allowed five earned runs with a 19:4 K:BB across his past three outings. Severino's 4.95 ERA through 22 starts this season isn't pretty, but he still has some streaming appeal since he's pitched to a 3.03 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 59.1 innings on the road.

Clay Holmes RP | NYM
Mets' Clay Holmes: No plan for relief role
The Mets aren't considering shifting Holmes to the bullpen to limit his innings, Will Sammon and Tim Britton of The Athletic report.
The 32-year-old former closer for the Yankees was converted to a starting role this season and has more than held his own, posting a 3.48 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 86:43 K:BB over 108.2 innings. That's already 45.2 innings more than he pitched during the regular season last year, however, and Holmes' recent performances suggest he could be feeling the strain of that workload, as he has a 5.66 ERA over four July starts. The Mets do have the depth to move the right-hander to the bullpen once the likes of Tylor Megill (elbow) get healthy -- even before factoring top prospects like Nolan McLean, or any trade deadline additions, into the rotation mix -- but the team doesn't have any plans to make that move pre-emptively. Holmes will try to get back on track when he takes the mound Friday in San Francisco.

Yusei Kikuchi SP | LAA
Angels' Yusei Kikuchi: Lasts 4.2 frames in loss
Kikuchi (4-7) was charged with the loss Thursday versus the Mariners after allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks across 4.2 innings. He struck out four.
The left-hander kept Seattle off the board and had a 1-0 lead through four innings, but Julio Rodriguez and Randy Arozarena went deep in the fifth to flip the script. It was just the second time this season, and first since April 26, that Kikuchi failed to last at least five frames. The 34-year-old has a 3.23 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 127:54 K:BB over 122.2 innings this season and lines up to make his next start at home versus the Rangers next week.
-
Logan Evans RP | SEA
Mariners' Logan Evans: Secures fourth victory
Evans (4-3) earned the win Thursday against the Angels after allowing one run on three hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out three.
Evans threw just 45 of 79 pitches for strikes and tied a season high with three walks, but he otherwise scattered a double and three singles to limit the Angels to one first-inning run. The 24-year-old picked up his first victory since May 27, though that covered only a span of five starts, as he spent most of June in the minors. Through his first 11 big-league outings, Evans has a 3.64 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 43:21 K:BB across 59.1 innings.

Alex Cobb SP | DET
Tigers' Alex Cobb: Receives injections during break
Cobb received injections in his left hip during the All-Star break to treat inflammation as he continues to deal with pain in both hips, MLB.com reports.
Cobb has received several injections in recent months as he slowly recovers from hip issues that have sidelined him all year. The veteran righty was officially added to the injured list in February due to right hip inflammation, though his surgically repaired left hip has also been giving him problems. Cobb did complete a bullpen session Tuesday and the team is still optimistic that he could return late in the season, but his fantasy impact is likely to be minimal even if he does.
