  • Mets' Carlos Carrasco: Scheduled start gets rained out

Carrasco won't start Monday's game against the Nationals as the game has been postponed due to rain, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

DiComo notes that the two teams will play a doubleheader Tuesday, but the Mets have yet to reveal their pitching plans for the twin bill. Carrasco will be a strong candidate to start one of Tuesday's matchups.

  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Giants' Alex Wood: Moves to 60-day IL

Wood (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday.

Wood's move to the 60-day IL is simply procedural, as the southpaw was ruled out for the remainder of the season in mid-September. The transaction helps make room on the 40-man roster for Andrew Vasquez, whose contract was selected Monday.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Officially activated ahead of start

Gonsolin (forearm) was activated from the 15-day injured list Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

After spending over a month on the injured list due to a strained right forearm, Gonsolin will return Monday and start against the Rockies. He threw just two innings during his rehab assignment, so he will likely be on a relatively-low pitch count. Andre Jackson will return to Triple-A with the re-addition of Gonsolin to the roster.

  • Edward Cabrera SP | CHC

Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Placed on 15-day IL

Cabrera was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right ankle sprain Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Cabrera was removed from Saturday's game against the Brewers due to an ankle injury, and he'll close out the season on the injured list. The right-hander wasn't expected to make any more appearances in 2022, and it seems unlikely that his injury will impact his availability for spring training in 2023. Elieser Hernandez was called up to provide a fresh arm for the Marlins during the team's final series of the regular season.

  • Luis Ortiz SP | CLE

Pirates' Luis Ortiz: Heads back to minors

The Pirates optioned Ortiz to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Since Ortiz wasn't scheduled to pitch again in 2022 after making a start Saturday in St. Louis, the Pirates chose to option him to open up room on the 28-man active roster for a player who can contribute over their final three games. Though he failed to escape the first inning against the Cardinals while serving up six earned runs, Ortiz still delivered a solid 4.50 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 17:10 K:BB in 16 innings over his first four big-league starts. He should get the chance to compete for a spot in the Bucs' Opening Day rotation next spring.

  • Cole Ragans RP | KC

Rangers' Cole Ragans: Lands on injured list

Ragans was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left calf strain Monday.

Ragans made his final start of the year against the Angels on Saturday and allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out two in five innings to settle for a no-decision. Even though he wouldn't have pitched again in 2022, he's dealing with a calf issue that will force him to finish the year on the IL. It's not yet clear whether the injury will have any impact on his offseason program.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Cardinals' Jose Quintana: Draws start Monday

Quintana is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Though Quintana will continue his streak of making all of his appearances this season as a starter, he won't be in line for a traditional outing Monday. Instead, manager Oliver Marmol told Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch over the weekend that the lefty will likely work about three innings Monday before giving way to Miles Mikolas, who is expected to then cover three innings of his own. As a result, Mikolas may be the likelier candidate than Quintana to factor into any decision.

  • Easton McGee RP | KC

Rays' Easton McGee: Booted off 40-man roster

The Rays designated McGee for assignment Monday.

Even though he impressed while working three innings and allowing an unearned run in long relief in his MLB debut during Sunday's 3-1 loss to Houston, McGee finds himself as the latest victim of Tampa Bay's continual roster churn. The Rays selected the contract of right-hander Kevin Herget to replace McGee in the bullpen.

  • Bryan Garcia SP | HOU

    Tigers' Bryan Garcia: Call-up official

The Tigers recalled Garcia from Triple-A Toledo ahead of his scheduled start Monday in Seattle.

Lefty Joey Wentz was demoted to the minors Sunday to clear a spot on the active roster for Garcia, who is set to make his fourth start of the season for Detroit. Over his previous three outings in the big leagues spanning 13.2 innings, Garcia was charged with five earned runs on nine hits and eight walks while striking out 11.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: Looks ready to go Monday

McCullers (illness) is on track to make his scheduled start Monday against the Phillies, MLB.com reports.

Barring a setback in his recovery from the illness while he's warming up Monday, McCullers looks poised to rejoin the rotation for what will be his final tune-up outing before the postseason. McCullers missed his last turn through the rotation last week against the Diamondbacks on account of the illness, with the 29-year-old right-hander losing some weight as a result of the ailment. He has since regained some strength and looks ready to go Monday, though the Astros could be cautious with his usage.
