  • Pirates' Mike Burrows: Resumes throwing

Burrows (shoulder) has recently progressed to throwing from approximately 120 feet, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Burrows has been unavailable for nearly a month due to his shoulder injury, but it's encouraging he's been cleared to resume throwing. The right-hander has also been throwing off a mound, and the Pirates hope that he'll be able to return to make another start at Triple-A Indianapolis prior to the end of the regular season.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Could return against Reds

Manager Craig Counsell said Peralta (shoulder) could pitch during the Brewers' four-game series in Cincinnati this weekend, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Peralta last pitched Sept. 8 against San Francisco when he exited the game early due to fatigue in his throwing shoulder. He also missed time earlier in the season due to a strain in the same shoulder. The Brewers currently have no starter listed for Sunday's contest against the Reds, so it is possible Peralta is re-inserted into the rotation then.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Recalled Thursday

Garrett was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old was sent down last week but will likely start Friday against the Nationals after Trevor Rogers (lat) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Since Rogers will be unavailable for the remainder of the season, it seems likely that Garrett will be able to remain in the rotation down the stretch. Garrett has made 14 major-league starts this year and has posted a 3.68 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 73.1 innings.

  • Trevor Rogers SP | BAL

Marlins' Trevor Rogers: Officially placed on injured list

Rogers was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left lat strain Thursday, retroactive to Sept. 19, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Rogers has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a Grade 1 lat strain, so his move to the injured list was expected. However, the southpaw should be able to have a relatively normal offseason program since his strain isn't considered particularly severe. Braxton Garrett was called up Thursday and could take Rogers' place in the starting rotation.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Lands on injured list

Soroka was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday due to elbow soreness, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Soroka spent most of the season recovering from an Achilles injury and was sent to Gwinnett after being reinstated from the injured list at the beginning of September. He posted a 6.23 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 13 innings over three starts following his activation but will now miss the remainder of the season. However, the right-hander isn't believed to be dealing with any structural damage, so it's possible that he's ready for the start of spring training in 2023.

  • Athletics' James Kaprielian: Dazzles in win

Kaprielian (4-9) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two hits and one walk over seven scoreless innings against the Mariners. He struck out six.

After giving up a single to Mitch Haniger in the first, Kaprielian allowed only two more batters to reach base through seven strong innings. It was the first time since July 23 that Kaprielian didn't allow a run, and he now holds a 1.38 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in two September starts. He'll look to carry that momentum into his next outing, which should come against the Angels in the middle of next week.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Mariners' Robbie Ray: Spins six scoreless innings

Ray did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing zero runs on three hits and three walks over six innings against the Athletics. He struck out seven.

Ray issued back-to-back walks in the first but managed to escape the inning unscathed. From there, he went on to allow just three singles and a walk until being pulled after the sixth inning. It was a nice bounce back for the left-hander, who had allowed four or more runs in each of his last two starts. Up next for Ray is a matchup against the Rangers at home.

  • Bailey Ober SP | MIN

Twins' Bailey Ober: Allows three in defeat

Ober (1-3) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings against the Royals. He struck out three.

Ober allowed two runs in the first inning, a leadoff home run from MJ Melendez and an RBI double from Salvador Perez. This was just the second start since June 1 for the righty as he missed over three months with a groin injury. The 27-year-old has been better in five road starts this season with a 3.00 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over 27 innings compared to a 4.86 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 16.2 innings at home.

  • Royals' Daniel Lynch: Allows two in no-decision

Lynch did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk over four innings against Minnesota. He struck out three.

Lynch allowed an RBI single from outfielder Matt Wallner to get the Twins on the board in the second inning, but Wallner's RBI double in the fourth wasn't earned as it was preceded by a Minnesota fielding error. The lefty has not impressed in his last seven starts, posting a 6.48 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 33.1 innings. Furthermore, the 25-year-old has allowed at least two homers in four of his last nine outings.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Struggles in loss

Marquez (8-12) took the loss on Wednesday against the Giants, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits over five innings. He struck out six and also walked a batter.

Marquez got himself into trouble early and often, giving up a leadoff double to LaMonte Wade in the first, who came around to score the game's first run. The right-hander would then allow the leadoff man to reach base in three of the next four innings. September hasn't been kind to Marquez as he now holds a 6.26 ERA through four starts this month.
