  • Nestor Cortes SP | NYY

Yankees' Nestor Cortes: Nine strikeouts in no-decision

Cortes came away with the no-decision in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Red Sox. He pitched five innings and allowed one run on three hits and three walks with nine strikeouts.

Cortes matched a season-high with nine strikeouts Thursday, which came on the heels of his first relief outing since 2021 last weekend. The left-hander is now back in the rotation with the Yankees going to a six-man unit for the stretch run. Outside of his Sept. 1 start versus the Cardinals when he gave up five runs, Cortes has now allowed one run or less in five of his last six appearances. The 29-year-old will take a 3.90 ERA and 1.15 WHIP into his next start, which tentatively lines up to come at Seattle.

  • Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Quality start in no-decision

Parker came away with a no-decision in Thursday's loss to the Marlins after he allowed two unearned runs on three hits and no walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out five.

Parker was fantastic Thursday, allowing only four baserunners and two unearned runs while pitching into the seventh inning for the seventh time this season. Parker has now recorded 11 quality starts in his rookie campaign, and five of those have come over his last eight starts. The 24-year-old hasn't missed a turn through the rotation since being called up in mid-April, and he's racked up 127 strikeouts with a 4.24 ERA over 142.1 innings.

  • Ryan Pepiot SP | TB

Rays' Ryan Pepiot: No injury after short start

Pepiot was pulled from Thursday's start against Cleveland after two innings but did not suffer an injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Pepiot labored through two innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one. He threw only 38 pitches, though the Rays may be opting to manage his workload after he threw only 64.2 total innings in 2023 and is up to 115 frames this year.

  • Matt Manning SP | DET

Tigers' Matt Manning: Back in action

Manning (lat) was reinstated from the minor-league injured list Thursday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Manning will start for Triple-A Toledo on Thursday after being on the shelf for nearly two months. He didn't make any rehab outings prior to being activated, so he could face a limited pitch count.

  • Slade Cecconi SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Slade Cecconi: Optioned back to minors

Cecconi was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Thursday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Cecconi was recalled Sept. 1 and allowed seven earned runs over 3.2 innings while in the majors. Cecconi has bounced between Reno and Arizona several times this season, so it's possible that he could return to the big leagues in the final days of the regular season.

  • Yilber Diaz SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Recalled from Triple-A

The Diamondbacks recalled Diaz from Triple-A Reno on Thursday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Diaz had four starts for the Diamondbacks in July, and he notched a quality start in the first two. In the third game he surrendered seven earned runs across three innings, but he bounced back in his final outing July 28 by allowing just one hit in five scoreless frames before returning to Triple-A. The right-hander worked out of the bullpen in his last two outings with Reno and should serve as a long reliever while up with the big club.

  • Framber Valdez SP | HOU

Astros' Framber Valdez: Another strong outing

Valdez didn't factor into the decision Thursday against Oakland, allowing a run on five hits and a walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out six.

Valdez looked like he was on his way to a third-straight scoreless outing, as he blanked the A's through six innings. However, Oakland would eventually scratch a run across in the seventh before Brent Rooker tied the game 2-2 with a homer off Valdez in the eighth. While it was a tough finish, it was another excellent start overall for the left-hander, who's posted a 1.33 ERA over his last seven outings (47.1 innings). Valdez is 14-6 on the season with a 2.91 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 159:51 K:BB across 163.2 innings. He's currently scheduled to face the Padres on the road next week in his next outing.

  • Mitch Spence SP | OAK

Athletics' Mitch Spence: Goes seven innings vs. Houston

Spence allowed two runs on seven hits across seven innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Astros. He struck out two.

Spence was sharp Thursday, with both Houston runs coming on a Jason Heyward homer in the second inning. The 26-year-old Spence has pitched to a 3.66 ERA over his last 10 starts (54 innings), lowering his ERA on the season to 4.33 with a 1.35 WHIP and 113:41 K:BB across 137.1 innings. Spence currently lines up for a road matchup with the Cubs in his next outing.

  • Sonny Gray SP | STL

Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Picks up 13th win

Gray (13-9) earned the win Thursday over the Reds, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out nine.

It was another excellent outing from Gray -- the right-hander's now held opponents to one run in each of his last three starts (19 innings) while posting a 20:3 K:BB in that span. The veteran right-hander's lowered his ERA to 3.75 on the year with a 1.07 WHIP and 195 strikeouts (10 shy of a career high) across 160.2 innings. Gray will look to keep rolling his next time out, currently scheduled as a home matchup with the Pirates next week.

  • Ryan Feltner SP | COL

Rockies' Ryan Feltner: Sharp in no-decision

Feltner didn't factor into the decision Thursday against Detroit, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

Feltner has now turned in back-to-back strong outings, allowing three runs on just five hits across 11.2 innings in that span. The right-hander's lowered his ERA to 4.89 on the campaign with a 1.39 WHIP and 127:47 K:BB across 27 starts (143.2 innings). Feltner's currently on track for a home matchup with the Diamondbacks early next week.
