Jake Irvin SP | WAS
Nationals' Jake Irvin: Strikes out six in win
Irvin (3-1) earned the win against the Orioles on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 6.1 innings.
Irvin was given a six-run cushion in the first inning and ran with it, tossing six scoreless frames before giving up two runs in the seventh. In three May outings, the 28-year-old has allowed seven earned runs and logged two quality starts, though he's managed just seven total strikeouts in that span. On the season, he owns a 3.88 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 40:17 K:BB across 60.1 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Giants next weekend.

Reese Olson SP | DET
Tigers' Reese Olson: Strong start wasted Saturday
Olson came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Blue Jays, scattering one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings. He struck out six.
The right-hander faced only one batter above the minimum and didn't let a Toronto runner get past first base in his third quality start of the season, but Olson saw his fifth win of the year slip away when the Detroit bullpen fell apart late. He's blanked the opposition in four of his last six trips to the mound, posting a 1.60 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 38:11 K:BB through 33.2 innings over that stretch. Olson will look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up to come at home next week against the Guardians.

Matthew Boyd SP | CHC
Cubs' Matthew Boyd: Fans eight in fourth win
Boyd (4-2) picked up the win Saturday, giving up three runs on four hits over six innings in a 7-3 victory over the White Sox. He struck out eight without walking a batter.
The veteran southpaw did serve up solo shots to Chase Meidroth in the first inning and Tim Elko in the fifth, but otherwise Boyd was firmly in control as he delivered his third straight quality start and sixth of the year. The eight Ks tied his season high, and Boyd will take a 2.98 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 53:13 K:BB through 51.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Cincinnati.

Sean Burke SP | CHW
White Sox's Sean Burke: Mauled by Cubs
Burke (2-5) took the loss Saturday, coughing up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and five walks over 4.2 innings as the White Sox were downed 7-3 by the Cubs. He struck out four.
It's the third time in nine starts that Burke has been tagged for at least five earned runs, and the 25-year-old righty's control continues to desert him -- he's issued a career-worst five free passes in back-to-back outings and multiple walks in eight straight. Burke will carry a 4.69 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 33:27 K:BB through 48 innings into his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Rangers.

Clarke Schmidt SP | NYY
Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Quality start despite shaky control
Schmidt didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Mets, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks over six innings. He struck out five.
The five free passes tied Schmidt's career high, but he was able to limit the damage and deliver his third straight quality start on 88 pitches (53 strikes). The right-hander will carry a 4.41 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 30:17 K:BB through 32.2 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Rangers.

Griffin Canning SP | SD
Mets' Griffin Canning: Settles for no-decision Saturday
Canning came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Yankees, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.
The right-hander saw his streak of five straight starts allowing one run or fewer come to an end, but it was still a stingy performance. Canning racked up 30 called or swinging strikes among his 92 pitches (64 total strikes), and he'll take a 2.47 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 46:17 K:BB through 47.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Dodgers.

Logan Gilbert SP | SEA
Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Throws another bullpen session
Gilbert (elbow) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Gilbert threw off a mound for the second time since landing on the injured list in late April, though he didn't increase his pitch count. It's a positive sign that he's been able to throw off a mound two times in the span of five days, but the Mariners haven't yet provided a clear timeline for his return. Per Daniel Kramer of MLB.com, Gilbert will require another bullpen session before progressing to live batting practice.

Blake Snell SP | LAD
Dodgers' Blake Snell: Moved to 60-day IL
The Dodgers transferred Snell (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Saturday.
Snell's move to the 60-day IL makes him ineligible to return until June 5, though he just began playing catch Wednesday and isn't expected to return for another several weeks anyway. While he continues working his way back, the Dodgers will give his spot on the 40-man roster to Clayton Kershaw (toe/knee), who was activated to start Saturday's game against the Angels.
-
Clayton Kershaw SP | LAD
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Activated for season debut
The Dodgers reinstated Kershaw (toe/knee) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his start against the Angels on Saturday.
Kershaw will be pitching on a big-league mound for the first time since August after undergoing surgeries on his left toe and left knee. The future Hall of Famer made five rehab starts across three minor-league levels, finishing his assignment with a 2.57 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB across 21 innings. His first MLB test of 2025 will come against an Angels lineup that ranks near the bottom of the league with a .664 OPS. In order to make room for Kershaw on the active roster, the Dodgers optioned Ryan Loutos to Triple-A and transferred Blake Snell (shoulder) to the 60-day IL.

Jordan Hicks RP | CHW
Giants' Jordan Hicks: Moving to bullpen
Manager Bob Melvin announced Saturday that Hicks will pitch out of the bullpen going forward, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
After pitching mostly out of the bullpen in his first five big-league seasons, Hicks transitioned back into a starting role after signing a four-year, $44 million deal with the Giants in January 2024. The move into the rotation hasn't paid off like the Giants had hoped, as the 28-year-old owns a 4.81 ERA in 29 starts since the start of the 2024 campaign. Hayden Birdsong will move from the bullpen to fill the rotation spot vacated by Hicks, who is expected to operate as a multi-inning.
