  • Ernie Clement SS | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Moves into utility role

Clement is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers.

Though he drew the start at shortstop in Wednesday's 10-0 loss to Texas, Clement has moved back into a utility role since Bo Bichette was reinstated from the 10-day injured list last Friday. Clement is now on the bench for the third time in four games and is expected to see few opportunities moving forward now that Toronto has recently welcomed both of its regular starters on the left side of the infield (Bichette and Matt Chapman) back from the IL.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Sitting again Thursday

Correa remains out of the lineup Thursday versus the White Sox.

It's the second straight absence for Correa, who has battled plantar fasciitis throughout the summer. He could be in for regular maintenance days down the stretch with the Twins holding a commanding lead on first place in the AL Central standings. Kyle Farmer will play shortstop and bat eighth Thursday in Chicago.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | ATL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Swipes 29th bag

Mateo went 1-for-1 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 1-0 loss against St. Louis.

While Mateo's seen limited playing time in the short side of a platoon, he's been productive when on the field, going 6-for-17 (.353) with three steals in his last six games. He's up to 29 stolen bases this season, putting him on pace to top the 30-steal mark for the second consecutive year. Overall, Mateo is slashing .215/.266/.342 with seven homers, 52 runs scored and 32 RBI across 328 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Two more steals in win

Witt went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the White Sox.

Witt has been hot at the plate and on the basepaths, going 7-for-14 (.500) with five steals over his last four contests. He's converted his last six stolen base attempts without getting caught, putting him at 44-for-54 this season. After a relatively quiet first week in September, Witt has bounced back well. He's slashing .276/.317/.494 with 28 home runs, 88 RBI and 83 runs scored across 143 games overall.

  • Nick Allen SS | HOU

Athletics' Nick Allen: Not starting Wednesday

Allen is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Allen has a .536 OPS through 10 games in September and will take a seat for Wednesday's series finale in Houston. Kevin Smith will step in at shortstop and bat ninth.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Approaching career-best RBI total

Crawford, who drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double over five plate appearances against the Angels on Tuesday, is now just one RBI from tying the career-high 54 he generated in 2021.

The veteran shortstop has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy managers in a couple of different statistical aspects this season. The fact he's on the precipice of a new career-best RBI tally is certainly one, and a pair of figures that have helped facilitate it -- a .280 average with runners on base and a career-high 15 home runs -- are two others. Crawford appeared to truly hit his stride at the plate three games into the second half of the season and hasn't cooled off for any extended stretch since, posting a .285/.408/.485 slash line in the 43 games he's played since July 16.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Not in lineup Wednesday

Baez is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Reds.

Baez has now started just six of the Tigers' last 13 games and over that stretch he's gone 4-for-21 with a 33.3 percent strikeout rate. Zach McKinstry is playing shortstop and leading off Wednesday.

  • Kyren Paris SS | LAA

Angels' Kyren Paris: Getting look in center field

Paris will start in center field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Paris is a natural middle infielder and had started at shortstop in nine of the Angels' first 10 games of September, but he lost hold of his everyday role when Zach Neto was activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday. Though Paris was held out of the lineup for the past two games and is slashing just .103/.235/.103 through 35 plate appearances in the majors, the Angels are still eager to give him a look over the final few weeks of the season. To that end, Paris will pick up his first professional start in center field Wednesday while the Angels remain without the services of Mike Trout (wrist) and Mickey Moniak (back).

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: On base six times in twin bill

Witt went 3-for-6 with three walks, one RBI, one stolen base and three runs scored across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the White Sox.

Witt did most of his damage with a 3-for-3 performance in the matinee game, as he was held hitless in the nightcap. The shortstop has cooled off just a bit in September, going 11-for-42 (.262) over his first 10 games this month. He's at a .275/.317/.494 slash line with 28 home runs, 42 steals, 87 RBI and 83 runs scored through 142 contests for the year.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Rare day off Wednesday

Correa is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rays.

It looks to be a rare day off for the veteran Correa after he went 1-for-8 at the plate in the first two games of the series. Kyle Farmer is at shortstop and batting ninth Wednesday.
