  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Taking seat Wednesday

Seager is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Athletics.

Seager appears to be getting a routine day off as he gets eased back into action following his return from the injured list a week ago. Ezequiel Duran will man shortstop for the Rangers, and left fielder Travis Jankowski will slide up to the two hole while Seager sits.

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Swipes two bags in win

Witt went 1-for-5 with two steals in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Red Sox.

Witt now has five steals in his last six games, bringing his season total up to 34, good for second in the AL behind Esteury Ruiz (44). In 22 games since the All-Star break, Witt is slashing .312/.347/.602 with six home runs, five doubles, two triples, 21 RBI, 11 runs scored and seven steals across 98 plate appearances. The 23-year-old phenom has also reduced his second-half strikeout rate to 16.3 percent, down from 20.5 percent in the first half.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Hitless in debut

Story started at shortstop and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Tuesday's 9-3 loss to the Royals.

It was a quiet night for Story, who batted third and made his season debut after returning from an elbow injury. He may need some time to adjust to MLB pitching after the shortstop went 12-for-40 (.300) and posted a 1.117 OPS with four doubles and four home runs over 13 games while on a rehab assignment.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Tallies three hits

Crawford went 3-for-4 with a double in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Padres.

Crawford has logged three multi-hit efforts in August, going 8-for-27 (.296) across his last seven games. The shortstop has lifted his season slash line to .268/.382/.415 with the productive stretch, and he's added 10 home runs, 37 RBI, 63 runs scored, 26 doubles and a stolen base while primarily working out of the leadoff spot.

  • Nick Allen SS | HOU

Athletics' Nick Allen: Notches second steal

Allen went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-1 loss to the Rangers.

Allen has been a bright spot for the Athletics in August, going 6-for-17 (.353) over the last five games. His steal Tuesday was his second of the season in just his third attempt, so he's still not much of a threat on the basepaths. He's slashing .199/.242/.275 with three home runs, 11 RBI, 17 runs scored, two doubles and a triple through 186 plate appearances.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Knocks another homer

Seager went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an RBI double in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Athletics.

Seager has gone 10-for-26 (.385) over six games since he returned from a thumb injury. That's impressive work even with the shortstop hitting .353 with a 1.070 OPS through 72 contests this season. He's added 19 homers, 66 RBI, 54 runs scored, a stolen base and 31 doubles over 325 plate appearances.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Likely out several weeks

Angels manager Phil Nevin said Tuesday that Neto (back) will be out for several weeks, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Neto was placed on the 10-day injured list last Friday due to lower-back discomfort and further testing has revealed a bad case of inflammation. Luis Rengifo will continue to serve as the Angels' primary shortstop in his absence, which is now expected to extend through at least mid-September.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Batting third in season debut

Story (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Royals, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Story is starting at shortstop and batting third in his season debut Tuesday versus the Royals and right-hander Brady Singer. Recovered from January internal brace surgery on his right elbow, the 30-year-old middle infielder posted an encouraging .300/.417/.700 batting line with four home runs and four doubles in 13 minor-league rehab games between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. Yu Chang has been designated for assignment in a corresponding roster move.

  • Yu Chang SS | TB

Red Sox's Yu Chang: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Red Sox designated Chang for assignment Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Chang had been getting regular playing time at shortstop over the last handful of weeks, but he'll lose his place on both the 26- and 40-man rosters as Trevor Story (elbow) prepares to make his season debut Tuesday night against the Royals. Chang, 27, was sporting a .162/.200/.352 batting line through 112 plate appearances this season with Boston.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Out with bruise

Anderson (forearm) is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Yankees.

Anderson took a pitch to the left forearm in Monday's series opener against New York, but X-rays came back negative and he is considered day-to-day with a contusion. Elvis Andrus will cover shortstop and bat leadoff for the White Sox on Tuesday night.
