  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

    Rangers' Corey Seager: Homers again

Seager went 1-for-3 with a walk and solo home run in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Angels.

Seager's blast in the seventh inning -- the second of back-to-back homers -- provided the winning run. He's homered in two consecutive games and three times over the last five. The 29-year-old shortstop has been on a remarkable tear since returning from a hamstring injury in May, slashing .356/.395/.683 with eight home runs, 32 RBI and 20 runs over 25 games.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Battling side cramps

Neto was removed from Wednesday's game due to cramping in his left side.

The team described Neto's injury as a precaution, so it's likely he'll be able to return to the Angels' lineup without missing much time, if any. The 22-year-old shortstop was enjoying a nice four-game hit streak entering Wednesday while slashing .467/.467/1.200 in that span.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Removed early Wednesday

Neto was removed from Wednesday's game against Texas for undisclosed reasons, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Jared Walsh entered the game to pinch hit for Neto in the second inning, and the Angels have yet to announce a reason for Neto's removal. The team should provide an update relatively soon, and Neto should be considered day-to-day until more is known.

  • Red Sox's Adalberto Mondesi: Still regaining leg strength

Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said Wednesday that Mondesi (knee) hasn't suffered a setback but rather is still working to regain strength in his surgically repaired left knee, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Bloom was addressing reporters one day after it was reported that Mondesi has been shut down from all baseball activities. He noted that the team has "been working hard to get strength back in that leg" so that Mondesi can progress to game action, but "there's been this recurrent soreness" that hasn't allowed it to happen, so the club is hitting the pause button. Mondesi almost certainly isn't going to come back before the All-Star break at this point, if he makes it back at all this season.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Expected to play Thursday

Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters before Wednesday's game against Washington that Pena (illness) will return to the lineup Thursday versus the Nationals, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Pena has not played since Sunday while dealing with his illness, but assuming he's feeling well enough to play, he should be back for the series finale against the Nationals.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Held out again Wednesday

Pena (illness) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Pena hasn't played since Sunday and has missed three straight contests due to illness. Mauricio Dubon is playing shortstop again and leading off.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | ATL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: On bench again Wednesday

Mateo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

For the second time in three games and the third time in six games, Mateo finds himself on the bench while the Orioles roll out an infield of Josh Lester, Adam Frazier, Gunnar Henderson and Ramon Urias. Mateo still profiles as the Orioles' top option at shortstop for now, but it's clear that he's on a shorter leash after having slashed .152/.186/.179 since the beginning of May following an excellent first month of the season. Joey Ortiz, who was called up Wednesday, might represent Mateo's biggest threat for playing time at the moment, but Jordan Westburg -- who has posted a .966 OPS in 262 plate appearances at Triple-A Norfolk -- could end up taking over as the starting shortstop at some point later this season.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Walks it off Tuesday

Correa went 1-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Brewers.

The shortstop crushed a Devin Williams changeup to left field in the ninth inning for a two-run homer -- the first regular-season walk-off home run of Correa's career, although he does have two in the playoffs. The 28-year-old is catching fire in June, homering three times in the last five games and batting .276 (8-for-29) with eight RBI over seven contests since returning from a three-game absence to deal with plantar fasciitis in his left heel.

  • Pablo Reyes RF | SD

Red Sox's Pablo Reyes: In line for more starts

Red Sox manager Alex Cora suggested prior to Tuesday's loss to the Rockies that Reyes would be in line for more starts at shortstop with Enrique Hernandez no longer viewed as the team's primary option at the position, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Boston's infield defense was reshuffled Tuesday, with Reyes starting at shortstop and Justin Turner starting at first base for Triston Casas. Cora noted that Reyes, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored Tuesday, isn't seen as an everyday player, but he'll likely see the majority of the starts at shortstop nonetheless until Yu Chang (wrist) is ready to return from the injured list. Eventually, Trevor Story (elbow) will supplant Chang and Reyes at the position, but he's not expected to be ready to play the field until August. Another option -- Adalberto Mondesi -- has been on the IL all season with a knee injury and was shut down from all activities Tuesday.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Homers again Tuesday

Neto went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Rangers.

Neto's 396-foot blast came in the ninth inning, giving him his second home run in three days and sixth on the season. The rookie has held his own so far, striking out at just a 21 percent clip while posting a respectable .259 average working as the near everyday shortstop for the Angels.
