  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Nearing rehab assignment

Manager Tony La Russa said Tuesday that he hopes Anderson (groin) will be able to begin a rehab assignment next week, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Anderson landed on the 10-day injured list May 31 and had an initial return timetable of approximately three weeks. The 28-year-old seems to be on track in his recovery, as he'd have time to appear in several rehab games next week if he's ultimately cleared to report to a minor-league affiliate. Danny Mendick and Leury Garcia should continue to see additional playing time at shortstop until Anderson returns from the injured list.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Expects to return Wednesday

Correa (illness) was seen working out at Target Field on Tuesday and said he expects to return from the COVID-19-related injured list Wednesday, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

Correa's presence at team facilities suggests he's cleared all COVID-19-related protocols after testing positive for the virus May 31, so at this stage, he'll just need to prove that he's feeling good from a conditioning standpoint after the week-long layoff. Assuming the Twins are satisfied with how the 27-year-old responded to Tuesday's workout, he should be back in the lineup at shortstop for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

  • Kevin Smith DH | NYY

Athletics' Kevin Smith: Hits bench again Tuesday

Smith is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game in Atlanta, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Smith will take a seat for the second time in three games while the Athletics give new Triple-A Las Vegas call-up Matt Davidson a look at third base. Though Oakland is in rebuilding mode and is prioritizing the development of younger players, Smith could be at risk of a demotion if his ongoing slump continues much longer. Over his last 10 games, Smith has gone 1-for-30 while striking out 11 times and drawing only two walks.

  • Chris Owings SS | LAD

Orioles' Chris Owings: Activated by O's

Owings (personal) was reinstated from the bereavement list Tuesday.

Owings was away from the Orioles during their weekend series against the Guardians, but he'll rejoin the team after spending the minimum amount of time on the bereavement list. Right-hander Marcos Diplan was sent down Sunday to make room on the active roster.

  • Bo Bichette 3B | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Smashes ninth homer

Bichette went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Monday's 8-0 win over the Royals.

Bichette's ninth home run of the season was one of three on the night for the Blue Jays, who won for the eighth time in 10 games. The 24-year-old has had a big hand in the team's offensive turnaround of late, as he's slashing .308/.368/.596 dating back to May 24. Unfortunately for Bichette's fantasy managers, he was caught stealing on his only attempt during that stretch, and his limited involvement in the run game thus far has been a disappointing development for those who drafted him with the hope he'd be a pillar in the stolen-base category. He's nabbed just four steals through 54 games, which puts him on pace to finish with 12 over the 162-game season.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Still collecting hits

Pena went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Sunday against the Royals.

Pena's production has slowed a bit of late, as he's tallied only two RBI across his last 11 starts. However, he's still collected four multi-hit performances in that span, good for a .256 batting average. Pena has been very impressive in his rookie season, maintaining a 135 wRC+ and .349 wOBA across 186 plate appearances.

  • Rays' Wander Franco: Yet to resume activities

Franco has yet to resume baseball activities since suffering a right quadriceps strain May 30, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

When Franco was placed on the 10-day injured list a day after suffering the injury, the Rays initially had optimism the star shortstop would be ready to return to action two weeks later. However, with Franco having yet to return to the field in any capacity in the week since he injured his quad, he could be facing a longer recovery timeline than expected. Taylor Walls should continue to receive the bulk of the starts at shortstop while Franco is on the IL.

  • Ezequiel Duran SS | TEX

Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Clubs first big-league homer

Duran went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Mariners.

Duran restored a one-run lead for the Rangers with his seventh-inning blast. He went 0-for-3 with an error in his debut Saturday, but it didn't take long for the top prospect to make an impact. With Andy Ibanez optioned out to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Duran has a chance to establish himself as the starting third baseman while Josh Smith (shoulder) is on the injured list. Charlie Culberson will also be in contention for time at the hot corner, though both he and Duran are right-handed hitters.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Tallies two hits Sunday

Baez went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, a run and a strikeout during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Yankees.

Baez went 0-for-6 with four strikeouts over the first two games of the series against the Yankees after he sat out the final two games of the series against the Angels, but he generated some production during Sunday's matchup. In spite of his encouraging performance to close out the series, the 29-year-old has struggled mightily at the plate recently, as he's hit .146 with two doubles, three RBI, a run and 13 strikeouts over his last 11 games.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

    Twins' Carlos Correa: Nearing return

Correa (COVID-19) could return to the lineup in the middle of next week, per manager Rocco Baldelli, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Correa has returned to Minnesota and has started the testing process to get cleared for a return. Baldelli said he thought Correa would need "at least a couple of days" of being on his feet and working out before he would get back in the lineup, so it sounds like he could return sometime in the series against the Yankees that runs Tuesday through Thursday.
