  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

    Rays' Joey Wendle: Gets breather

Wendle is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Royals, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Wendle will give way to Brandon Lowe at the keystone following a string of 11 consecutive starts. The 28-year-old is enjoying a nice month at the plate so far, hitting .317/.353/.540 with two homers and 14 RBI through 17 games.

  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Blue Jays' Aledmys Diaz: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Diaz is not in the lineup against the Orioles on Wednesday, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Diaz will retreat to the bench for a standard day off following 18 straight starts. During that span, he's hit .270/.313/.508 with four home runs, seven RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Richard Urena will start at shortstop in his stead.

  • David Fletcher 2B | ATL

Angels' David Fletcher: Triples, drives in two

Fletcher went 3-for-5 with a triple, two RBI, a run scored and a strikeout in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Fletcher singled home a run in the third inning and came around to score in the frame, then later provided a game-tying triple with two outs in the seventh. The 24-year-old is riding a seven-game hitting streak -- with multi-hit efforts in five of those -- to bring his slash line to .278/.321/.381.

  • Zach Vincej SS | SEA

Mariners' Zach Vincej: DFA'd by Mariners

Vincej was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Vincej had his contract purchased in late July but only remained in the majors a couple days while Kyle Seager was on the paternity list. Ross Detwiler was added to the 40-man roster in a corresponding move.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Knocks in three in loss

Bogaerts went 2-for-5 with three RBI in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Indians.

Bogaerts put the Red Sox on top early with a two-run, first-inning single and later brought them within a run with a ninth-inning single. The three RBI give him 12 runs knocked in over the last 11 games. As Boston's No. 5 hitter, he's uniquely positioned to establish a new career high in RBI. Three of MLB's top 19 hitters in on-base percentage bat in front of Bogaerts, giving him ample opportunities to drive in runs. And he's taken advantage of his placement, cranking out a 1.226 OPS with runners in scoring position.

  • Royals' Adalberto Mondesi: Not starting Monday

Mondesi is not in the lineup Monday against the Rays, Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City reports.

Mondesi had a four-hit outburst Tuesday against the Blue Jays but since then has grabbed just one hit in four games. Alcides Escobar will play shortstop in his place Monday.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Closing in on 20-20

Anderson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 7-6 win over Kansas City.

Anderson's two-run bomb was one of three the White Sox hit in the fourth inning to wipe out a six-run deficit. It was his 16th of the season, but just his third in the last 45 games. He's still too much of a free-swinger, but Anderson is knocking on the door of a 20-homer/20-stolen base season. That should be enough to overlook the 25-year-old's propensity to swing at pitches outside the zone, which has contributed to a 115:26 K:BB and substandard .294 OBP.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Rays' Joey Wendle: Swats seventh homer

Wendle went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Red Sox.

Wendle took Hector Velazquez deep in the second inning to put the Rays on the board. The 28-year-old has been dialed in to start the month, hitting .327/.356/.545 with two homers, 12 RBI and a stolen base across 15 games.

  • Richard Urena SS | WAS

Blue Jays' Richard Urena: Starting streak ends

Urena is out of the lineup Sunday against the Yankees, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The move to the bench ends a streak of four straight starts for Urena, who went 3-for-13 with a double and a run scored over that span. Despite the heightened workload of late, Urena projects to serve as the Blue Jays' top backup at both middle-infield spots going forward until the team gets one of Yangervis Solarte (oblique), Lourdes Gurriel (ankle) or Brandon Drury (hand) back from the disabled list.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Rays' Willy Adames: Receives day off

Adames is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Mired in a 1-for-13 slump at the dish over the past four games, Adames will be given a day off to clear his mind. Joey Wendle shifts over to shortstop in place of Adames, opening up a spot at the keystone for Brandon Lowe.
