  • Royals' Raul Mondesi: Nearing return to action

Mondesi (back) is expected to return to the lineup early next week for Triple-A Omaha, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports

The Royals have taken it slow with Mondesi, who hasn't played since July 9, in part because this ailment is something the 22-year-old has dealt with before. After a disappointing, and short, MLB stint to open the year, Mondesi has been destroying Triple-A pitching with a .316 average and .892 OPS.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Returns from two-game breather

Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a double in Thursday's 8-6 loss to the Blue Jays.

Bogaerts had missed the previous two games with a hand injury suffered when he was hit by a pitch July 6. He had gone 4-for-26 over seven games after getting plunked, so manager John Farrell gave him a two-game breather. Bogaerts was dropped to sixth in the batting order Thursday as part of a lineup adjustment the manager initiated to jolt the Red Sox out of a recent offensive funk.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Returns to lineup

Bogaerts (hand) is back in the lineup for Thursday's game against Toronto, Evan Drellich of WEEI.com reports.

Bogaerts missed the past two days while dealing with a muscle contusion and a small sprain in his hand, but returns to the field for the series finale. He slides into the sixth spot of the order while playing his typical position at short. This injury dates back to when Bogaerts was hit by a pitch against the Rays on July 6, and since then, he has gone 4-for-26 from the plate with zero extra-base hits.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Expected to play Thursday

Bogaerts (hand) is expected back in the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Blue Jays, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.

Bogaerts had been scratched from Tuesday's game and sat out Wednesday with what's been described as a muscle contusion and a small sprain in his hand.

  • Ehire Adrianza 3B | LAA

Twins' Ehire Adrianza: Doubles in third start in four games

Adrianza went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-1 victory over the Yankees.

This marked Adrianza's third start in four days at shortstop. Wednesday's hitting display also bumped his average up to a strong .309 mark. He doesn't possess much power and he hits in an inopportune spot in the lineup much of the time, but if he continues to hit like this, he may force his way into the lineup more often than not, giving him a semblance of value in deeper leagues.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Remains out Wednesday

Bogaerts (hand) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Toronto, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Bogaerts is dealing with a muscle contusion and a small sprain in his hand, and will remain out of the lineup for the second straight game. He should be considered day-to-day moving forward, but could wind up missing a couple more games while he heals from this injury. In his place, Deven Marrero draws the start at short while Brock Holt mans the hot corner for Wednesday's affair.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Successfully completes thumb surgery

Correa successfully underwent surgery on his injured left thumb Wednesday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Fortunately for the Astros, the star shortstop was able to get the surgery out of the way just a day after it was revealed that he would require an operation to fix the issue in his thumb. Correa will now focus on rehabbing the injury with the hope of returning sometime in the month of September. Look for Marwin Gonzalez and Alex Bregman to hold down the fort at shortstop while he's out.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Diagnosed with muscle contusion, sprained hand

Bogaerts (hand) has been diagnosed with a muscle contusion and a small sprain in his hand and is considered day-to-day, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.

What was first diagnosed as a bruised hand turns out to be a little more serious, but he'll avoid the disabled list for now. Since the hand was hit by a pitch on July 6, Bogaerts has been struggling at the plate, only hitting .154. Devin Marrero and Brock Holt are expected to handle the shortstop duties if Bogaerts misses further time.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Expected to miss close to eight weeks

Correa will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, and while the Astros have said he will be out 6-to-8 weeks, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that the expectation is that it will be closer to eight weeks.

Correa was placed on the 10-day DL on Tuesday, leaving the Astros to go with a combination of Marwin Gonzalez and Alex Bregman at shortstop with Colin Moran seeing some starts at third base. Mike Trout recently returned from the exact same procedure, and was ready in just under six weeks but Rosenthal has heard Correa's absence will be a tad longer. An early-September return to the big-league lineup seems like the best-case scenario.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Getting MRI on hand

Bogaerts is dealing with a hand injury that dates back to when he was hit by a pitch earlier this month, and is getting an MRI on Tuesday, Ryan Hannable of WEEI.com reports.

First Bogaerts was moved to sixth in the lineup, then he was scratched from said lineup, and now it sounds like he could be facing an absence due to a hand issue that has hurt his performance of late. The Red Sox are hopeful that it is just a day-to-day issue. In the meantime, Deven Marrero and Brock Holt will be options at shortstop.
