Pirates manager Derek Shelton announced Monday that Cruz will be moved to center field, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Shelton suggested that the move will be permanent, with the skipper noting that Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Nick Gonzales will be the team's everyday options at shortstop and second base, respectively, for the remainder of the season. Cruz played one inning in left field for the Pirates in 2022 and started nine games at the position for Triple-A Indianapolis in the same season. However, he has never seen action in center field, so the 25-year-old will be learning on the fly. According to Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates plan to ease Cruz into his transition to the outfield by deploying him mostly as a designated hitter initially.

Tovar went 1-for-5 on Sunday against the Yankees.

Tovar had a productive weekend series in New York, going 4-for-13 with three doubles and two runs scored. However, he's endured significant struggles throughout August by hitting just .178 with an abysmal 34 percent strikeout rate and 3.2 percent walk rate. Positively, he still has 11 runs scored in 21 games for the month.

The Marlins are expected to place Edwards (back) on the 10-day injured list prior to Monday's game against the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Outfielder Griffin Conine is set to receive a call-up from Triple-A Jacksonville and will meet up with the Marlins in Colorado for the start of the club's four-game series with the Rockies, while Edwards will head to the IL to open up on a spot on the 26-man active roster. Edwards had missed the Marlins' past two games with lower-back discomfort, and though an MRI returned negative and he was able to do some work on the field Sunday, the club wants to give the young infielder more time to heal up from the injury. Edwards' placement on the IL will be retroactive to Saturday, and he should have a good chance at being ready to return when first eligible Sept. 3. Vidal Brujan is likely to step in as the Marlins' primary shortstop while Edwards is on the shelf.

De La Cruz went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh.

De La Cruz's seventh-inning single plated the team's first run and was the Reds' only hit with runners in scoring position. It was his third multi-hit game in the last five contests. In typical De La Cruz fashion, he's filled up the box score during that stretch, going 9-for-21 with a home run, six RBI, two steals and seven runs scored.

Betts went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in Sunday's win over the Rays.

Betts' only hit of the afternoon was a huge one, as he put the Dodgers ahead in the eighth with a two-run homer to left-center off Richard Lovelady. He's now posted multiple RBI in three of his last four games and has recorded an extra-base hit in four of his last five games. Since returning to action, Betts is hitting .275/.321/.529 with three homers, 11 RBI, seven runs, a steal and a 4:11 BB:K in 57 plate appearances.

Perdomo went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Red Sox.

Perdomo put an end to a successful road trip (.324/.390/.525) by popping his third home run of the season in the ninth inning to give Arizona extra cushion. He's belted all three of his homers during August, which has been the shortstop's best month. Perdomo is batting .325/.400/.525 with 10 extra-base hits, 10 RBI, four steals and seven runs scored over 22 August contests.

The Pirates promoted Johnson from High-A Greensboro to Double-A Altoona on Sunday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The 20-year-old will move up to Altoona after slashing .236/.369/.382 with 13 home runs and 20 stolen bases across 489 plate appearances with Greensboro. Johnson has split time between second base and shortstop this season, but the keystone will likely be his long-term home once he reaches the big leagues.

Abrams went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI singles and a stolen base during Sunday's 5-1 win over Atlanta.

For the second game in a row, Abrams went 2-for-5 at the plate with a stolen base. However, he drove in two baserunners Sunday on RBI singles in the seventh and ninth innings after not logging an RBI on Saturday. The 23-year-old is up to 27 stolen bases on the year, which ranks sixth among NL players. Abrams is slashing .249/.321/.441 in 534 plate appearances.

Edwards (back) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

The 25-year-old will sit for the second straight game after he exited Friday's contest due to lower-back discomfort. Edwards had medical imaging on his back come back negative Saturday, and he took a step forward prior to Sunday's game by taking some swings and doing some throwing, per Noah Berger of ElExtraBase.com. He can be considered day-to-day heading into the Marlins' upcoming four-game series in Colorado that begins Monday.

Rojas went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's extra-inning loss to the Rays.

Rojas drove home Max Muncy with a base hit in the bottom of the fifth to bring the Dodgers within one run of Tampa Bay before coming around to score himself on a two-run homer from Shohei Ohtani. The shortstop then took Joel Kuhnel deep in his next trip to the plate to extend his team's lead to two runs, and he added a third run in the bottom of the 10th as Los Angeles narrowly lost in extra innings. Rojas has now hit safely in 12 of 13 games this month, during which he's batting .356 (16-for-45) with seven RBI and eight runs scored. Saturday's long ball was his fourth of the campaign and his first since June 14 against the Royals.
