  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Sitting Saturday

Schmitt isn't in the Giants' lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Schmitt is 1-for-12 across his last six games, though he still managed to reach base seven times in that span. He'll get a day off Saturday as Brandon Crawford starts at shortstop for the sixth time in seven games.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Returns for London Series

Swanson (wrist) is starting at shortstop and hitting fifth Saturday against the Cardinals, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Swanson was held out of Wednesday's game against the Pirates, but after three days off he is able to return to the lineup. He has at least one hit in eight of his last 10 starts and will take his customary spot in the heart of the Cubs' lineup.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Hits eighth homer

Bogaerts went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's 13-3 victory over Washington.

This was just Bogaerts' second homer since the month of April, when he hit six. This hasn't been the best year to roster him in fantasy, as his current slash line of .259/.343/.395 is the worst he's had in years. However, the former Red Sox star still has plenty of time to heat up as the season reaches its midpoint.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Homers twice, drives in five

Adames went 4-for-5 with a double, two homers and five total RBI in Friday's 7-1 win over the Guardians.

The 27-year-old started the scoring with an RBI single in the opening frame and followed up with homers in the sixth and ninth innings to power Milwaukee's offense. Adames entered Friday's contest with a .529 OPS, one homer and two RBI in 13 games since returning from a concussion June 7, so the offensive outburst was a welcome sight. The performance improved his season slash line to .216/.294/.398, and he now has 12 long balls, 34 RBI and 34 runs through 65 games.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Electrifies with first career cycle

De La Cruz hit for the cycle Friday, going 4-for-5 with a solo homer, four total RBI, three runs scored and a steal in an 11-10 victory over Atlanta.

The 21-year-old became the first Reds player to hit for the cycle since Eric Davis in 1989. He added a steal for good measure, keeping him perfect on the basepaths at 7-for-7 in steal attempts. Friday's game was just De La Cruz's 15th in the majors, but he's already emerging as one of the club's leaders with a .361/.418/.656 slash line and all kinds of flare and personality to go with it. The Reds have won 12 straight games and De La Cruz has been a driving force, as he has more than lived up to the hype since his arrival.

  • Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Sitting again versus lefty

Marcano isn't starting Friday against the Marlins, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Friday marks the third straight game Marcano will begin in the dugout, although two have been against lefty starters. Rodolfo Castro will start at shortstop and bat sixth.

  • Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Sitting Thursday

Marcano isn't in the Pirates' lineup Thursday against the Marlins.

Marcano is just 2-for-16 with an RBI over his last five games, so he will sit out Thursday to regroup. Rodolfo Castro will take Marcano's place at shortstop and bat fifth.

  • Jonathan Mejia SS | STL

Cardinals' Jonathan Mejia: On-base machine in FCL

Mejia was assigned to the Florida Complex League from Single-A Palm Beach earlier this month.

He has eight walks, three strikeouts, two steals and zero hits through four games in the complex league. Mejia was originally assigned to Single-A on May 23, then was placed on the temporarily inactive list for four days in early June and played in one more game at Single-A before getting assigned to rookie ball June 12. He is one of the Cardinals' top prospects in the lower levels.

  • Pirates' Tsung-Che Cheng: Promoted to Double-A

Cheng was promoted to Double-A Altoona on Thursday, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports.

Cheng had a dominant 57-game run for High-A Greensboro, slashing .308/.406/.575 with nine home runs, 13 steals and a 47:35 K:BB in 254 plate appearances. Trimming his groundball rate to 42.1 percent and upping his flyball rate from 28.9% to 34.1% has helped fuel Cheng's improvement as a power hitter. The 5-foot-7 infielder fits best at second base long term.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Not starting Thursday

Bogaerts isn't in the Padres' lineup Thursday against the Giants.

Bogaerts is just 5-for-27 (.185) with an RBI and a run scored over the past seven days, so he'll receive a day off Thursday to regroup. Ha-Seong Kim will shift over to shortstop in Bogaerts' absence, moving Jake Cronenworth to second and Brandon Dixon in as the Friars' first baseman while batting eighth.
