  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Steps out of lineup

Abrams is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the A's.

Abrams has started all 14 games since being called up by Washington on Aug. 15, but he'll take a seat Thursday after posting a .160/.208/.180 slash line in 50 at-bats. Ildemaro Vargas will shift to shortstop while Cesar Hernandez starts at the hot corner.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: Departs with hip issue

Berti was removed from Wednesday's loss to the Rays with right hip soreness, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.

The 32-year-old left with the injury after the eighth inning, and he provided Miami's only real offensive production prior to his exit by going 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base. Miami has a scheduled day off Thursday, so Berti will have a day to rest up ahead of Friday's series opener in Atlanta.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Ejected from Wednesday's game

Crawford was ejected from Wednesday's game against the Padres ahead of the third inning, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Crawford struck out for the second out in the bottom of the second inning and was talking with the third-base umpire prior to being ejected for the third time in his career. It seems unlikely that Wednesday's ejection will lead to further discipline, so he should be available for Friday's series opener against the Phillies.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: Starting Wednesday after all

Updating a previous report, Berti will start at third base and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Berti had been in line to receive a breather for the series finale, but he was pressed into the starting nine after shortstop Miguel Rojas was scratched with right wrist discomfort, according to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. The speedster will be making his seventh start in a row after going 3-for-22 with five walks, one run and one stolen base over the prior six contests.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Scratched with wrist injury

The Marlins scratched Rojas from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays with right wrist discomfort, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

As a result of Rojas' removal from the lineup, Joey Wendle will shift over from third base to shortstop, while Jon Berti cracks the starting nine at the hot corner rather than receiving the day off. Rojas will get two days off to heal up from the wrist injury, as the Marlins are off the schedule Thursday before returning to action Friday in Atlanta.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: On bench Wednesday

Berti isn't starting Wednesday against the Rays, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Berti is getting a day off after he hit .136 with a run, a stolen base, five walks and six strikeouts over the last six games. Joey Wendle will draw the start at third base and lead off.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Accounts for lone run in loss

Edman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Reds.

Edman opened the scoring in the third inning with his solo shot, which was one of just four hits in the game for the Cardinals. Over his last eight games, Edman has gone 10-for-32 (.313) with three long balls, one triple, three doubles, seven RBI, seven runs scored and two stolen bases. That hot bat has kept him in the lineup regularly as the starting shortstop while Nolan Gorman and Brendan Donovan handle second base. Paul DeJong has reverted to a bench role. Through 126 contests, Edman has matched his career high with 11 homers and added 26 stolen bases.

  • Vaughn Grissom 2B | LAA

Braves' Vaughn Grissom: Swipes third bag

Grissom went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a steal in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies.

Atlanta ran wild on Elias Diaz on Tuesday, as three different runners stole second, including Grissom in the second, good for his third on the season. Grissom proceeded to score on a Dansby Swanson double. In 19 games, Grissom is batting .338 and has scored 16 runs. The 16 runs are good for eighth in the majors since he was called up Aug. 10 and part of the reason Atlanta has maintained pace with the Mets.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Slides to ninth spot

Abrams will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

The Nationals aren't yet ready to pull the plug on Abrams as their everyday shortstop, but the 21-year-old rookie hasn't fared as well as Washington had hoped when they called him up from Triple-A Rochester on Aug. 15. After batting just .136 with no walks and a 26.7 percent strikeout rate in 12 games since his promotion, Abrams will be moved down in the order after previously slotting between the sixth and eighth spots in the lineup.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Barrero: Sitting again Tuesday

Barrero isn't in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals.

This marks consecutive games on the bench for Barrero, who has gone 4-for-33 with no extra-base hits in his last 10 contests. Kyle Farmer will start at shortstop Tuesday while Alejo Lopez mans third base.
