Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Drives in three runs

Edwards went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's victory against Cincinnati.

Edwards knocked a two-run double and scored a run during Miami's back-breaking seven-run third inning. He later brought in another run with his sixth-inning single. Edwards has terrorized the Reds in the last two games, going 5-for-9 with three doubles. He has multiple hits in 12 of 31 games since the start of June, going 42-for-126 (.333) in the process. Edwards' slash line is up to .292/.360/.339 with 13 extra-base hits and 37 runs scored through 74 games.

  • Joseph Ortiz 2B | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Re-entering lineup Tuesday

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that Ortiz will return to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Milwaukee held the right-handed-hitting Ortiz out of the lineup in both of the past two games while the Brewers opposed right-handed starters Edward Cabrera and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, allowing Andruw Monasterio to pick up a pair of starts at shortstop. The consecutive benchings came after Ortiz had fallen into a 4-for-29 slump at the dish over his previous nine starts, which prompted Murphy to criticize the 26-year-old's plate approach when he spoke to McCalvy prior to Monday's game. The skipper didn't suggest that Ortiz was at any major risk of losing out on an everyday role, and the infielder should benefit from a matchup with a lefty (Clayton Kershaw) in his return to the lineup Tuesday.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Three more hits Monday

Edwards went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored in Monday's win over the Reds.

The switch hitter is locking in as the All-Star break approaches. Edwards has three multi-hit performances in the last five games, and over the last month he's slashing .306/.375/.361 in 26 contests with four steals in six attempts, seven RBI and 16 runs. While he isn't running as much, or as efficiently, as he did in 2024 -- he's gone 15-for-21 on the basepaths through 73 contests this season after a 31-for-35 showing in only 70 games last year -- he remains a useful three-category fantasy asset, and a strong leadoff option for Miami.

  • Joseph Ortiz 2B | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Out of lineup again Monday

Ortiz is out of the lineup for Monday's game versus the Dodgers.

Ortiz is getting a second straight day off as he battles through a 4-for-29 slump at the dish, with Brewers manager Pat Murphy saying he wants Ortiz to clean up his swing decisions, per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Andruw Monasterio will fill in at shortstop again for Milwaukee.

  • Otto Lopez SS | MIA

Marlins' Otto Lopez: Getting rare day off Monday

Lopez is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Reds.

Lopez will exit the starting nine for the first time since May 27 while he's gone just 3-for-22 at the dish so far in July. Javier Sanoja will start at shortstop and bat ninth as the Marlins open a series in Cincinnati.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Giants' Willy Adames: Homer, three RBI in win

Adames went 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks and three RBI in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Athletics.

Adames twice drew bases-loaded walks to force in runs. He also had a solo shot in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to seven games. During that span, he's gone 11-for-26 (.423) with four extra-base hits, nine RBI and four walks. The shortstop's up to a .226/.313/.370 slash line with 11 homers, 45 RBI, 50 runs scored and four stolen bases through 90 contests this season.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Kicks off rehab assignment

Tovar (oblique) played five innings at shortstop and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in a rehab game with Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday.

Tovar took part in his first game action in a month, after the Rockies placed him on the 10-day injured list June 6 due to a left oblique strain. According to Manny Randhawa of MLB.com, Tovar is scheduled to play again for Albuquerque on Sunday and Tuesday, but the Rockies haven't mapped out his rehab schedule beyond that. Depending on how he fares with Albuquerque over the next few days, Tovar could return from the IL in advance of the Rockies' final series before the All-Star break next weekend in Cincinnati.

  • Joseph Ortiz 2B | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Out of Sunday's lineup

Ortiz is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Ortiz started the previous 37 games and will take a seat Sunday while he's in the midst of a 4-for-29 slump. Despite those poor numbers, the 27-year-old has been decently productive in 30 games since the start of June with four home runs, 20 RBI, 15 runs and a .263/.311/.424 slash line. Andruw Monasterio will fill in at shortstop in the series finale in Miami.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Crosses plate four times Saturday

Lindor went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, four runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's win over the Yankees.

The top of the Mets' order carried the day in a 12-6 romp, with Lindor helping to set the table for Pete Alonso (two homers, five RBI) and Brandon Nimmo (second grand slam in four days). The steal was Lindor's first since June 7, and on the season the All-Star shortstop is slashing .261/.332/.455 with 17 homers, 14 pilfers, 47 RBI and 57 runs in 88 contests.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Receiving rare day off

Abrams is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

With the Nationals and Red Sox wrapping up their series with a day game and Garrett Crochet on the bump for Boston, Washington skipper Dave Martinez viewed Sunday as an optimal time to give Abrams a day off. Paul DeJong will fill in at shortstop while Abrams exits the starting nine for the first time since June 8.
