Paul DeJong SS | NYY
Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Gets breather Friday
DeJong isn't in the lineup Friday against the Reds, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
DeJong started the last five games and went 2-for-16 with a double, two RBI, two stolen bases, a run, two walks and five strikeouts. Edmundo Sosa will take his place at shortstop and bat eighth.

Oneil Cruz SS | PIT
Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Primarily playing shorstop
Cruz has started 10 games at shortstop as opposed to only one in left field with Triple-A Indianapolis to begin the season.
When the Pirates optioned Cruz to the minors to start the season, part of the stated reason was to get him reps in the outfield. While he did start one of his first five games in left field, Cruz has played exclusively at shortstop since. It's unclear what that may mean for his defensive home in the long term, but it suggests that he will play in the infield upon his promotion to the majors this season. It's also uncertain when Cruz may return to Pittsburgh, as he has hit only .175/.283/.275 across 46 plate appearances with Indianapolis.

Francisco Lindor SS | NYM
Mets' Francisco Lindor: Smacks fourth homer
Lindor went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Giants.
Lindor got the Mets on the board by tallying his fourth home run of the season in the first inning. He reached base base in subsequent plate appearances with a pair of singles to record his fourth multi-hit effort in his last seven starts. Lindor appears to have put his disappointing 2021 campaign behind him, as he is hitting .308/.419/.615 with 12 runs scored and 10 RBI across 62 plate appearances early on in 2022.

Joey Wendle 2B | ATL
Marlins' Joey Wendle: Signs extension
Wendle agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Marlins on Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Wendle's agreement contains a mutual option for 2023 and means that he won't have to go through arbitration during the 2022 season. The 31-year-old is hitting .323 with three doubles, four runs, four RBI and a stolen base this year.

Ehire Adrianza 3B | LAA
Nationals' Ehire Adrianza: Transferred to 60-day IL
Adrianza (quadriceps) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Ehire strained his left quadriceps in late March and hasn't made much progress in his rehab, as he's yet to resume running or baseball activities. His return timeline is still not entirely clear, but he'll now be ineligible to return before early June. Erasmo Ramirez had his contract selected to take Adrianza's place on the 40-man roster.

Miguel Rojas SS | LAD
Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Not starting Thursday
Rojas isn't starting Thursday's game against the Cardinals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Rojas started the last eight games and hit .167 with a triple, two runs and two RBI. Joey Wendle will shift to shortstop while Brian Anderson starts at the hot corner.

Dee Strange-Gordon SS | WAS
Nationals' Dee Strange-Gordon: Likely to require rehab stint
Manager Dave Martinez said Thursday that Strange-Gordon (illness) doesn't yet have a timetable to return but is likely to require a rehab stint before joining the major-league club, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Strange-Gordon has missed a week due to an illness, and he'll evidently require at least one game in the minors at some point before he's cleared to rejoin the major-league club. A better timetable for the 33-year-old's return should come into focus once his rehab assignment is announced.

Tommy Edman 2B | LAD
Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Swipes first bag of season
Edman went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Marlins.
The steal was his first of the season, on his first attempt. While Edman hasn't been running much to begin the season, he's otherwise been extremely effective, slashing .371/.421/.714 with three homers and seven RBI while hitting safely in all 10 games so far. That surge got the 26-year-old second baseman bumped up to the leadoff spot Wednesday for the first time this year.
-
Johan Camargo SS | SF
Phillies' Johan Camargo: Delivers four hits, three RBI
Camargo went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer during Wednesday's 9-6 win at Colorado.
The 28-year-old received the start at shortstop in place of an injured Didi Gregorius (hand), and he came through for Philadelphia with a three-run shot in the seventh inning, which proved to be the difference in the contest. Camargo signed with the Phillies to presumably fill a utility role but has seen extended playing time early in the season, producing a .382/.417/.529 slash line through 11 games.

Kevin Made SS | WAS
Cubs' Kevin Made: Makes 2022 debut
Made (elbow) debuted for Low-A Myrtle Beach on Sunday, starting at shortstop while going 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs in the club's 6-3 win over Augusta.
Made opened the season on Myrtle Beach's 7-day injured list with a sore right elbow, but he was on the shelf for just over the minimum amount of time before making his Low-A debut. The 19-year-old signed for $1.7 million in 2019 and profiles as a plus defender at shortstop, but he doesn't project to hit well enough to emerge as an everyday player in the majors.
