Braves' Dansby Swanson: Steals base in loss

Swanson went 0-for-5 with a stolen base in a 7-4 loss to the Phillies on Friday.

Swanson struck out twice and ended an 11-game hitting streak Friday. Despite the rough day, he's still hitting .306/.338/.822 with four home runs and 18 RBI, and he and Ronald Acuna are a nice 1-2 punch atop the Atlanta batting order.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Three hits in big win

Turner went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBI in Friday's 10-2 win over the Red Sox.

He got the Nats' offensive eruption started with a two-run double in the third inning, extending his hitting streak to 13 games in the process. The streak has pushed Turner's slash line on the season up to .322/.388/.583, but if there were a blemish on his performance Friday, it's that he was caught stealing for the fourth time in seven attempts this year -- curiously poor numbers after he went 35-for-40 in 2019.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Day off Friday

Edman is out of the lineup Friday against the Indians, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

The 25-year-old started both games of Thursday's twin bill and went 3-for-7 with a walk, and he'll take a seat for Friday's contest. Edman is 12-for-34 with two doubles, five runs, seven RBI and a stolen base in his past 10 games. Matt Carpenter will shift to third base while Brad Miller serves as the designated hitter.

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Stays busy in twin bill

Edman went a combined 3-for-7 with a walk during a doubleheader against the Pirates on Thursday.

All three of the versatile Edman's hits were singles, but they served to extend his hitting streak to six games by day's end. The 25-year-old hasn't hit a home run since July 28 and only has a pair of extra-base hits (two doubles) in August, but he's now slashing an impressive .353/.436/.412 across 39 plate appearances over his last 10 games, raising his batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage by 82, 89 and 43 points, respectively.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Garcia: Sitting Game 2

Garcia is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Brewers.

Garcia went 1-for-2 with a single, a walk and a stolen base in the first half of the twin bill, but will sit for at least the beginning of Game 2. Kyle Farmer will start at shortstop.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Starting Game 2

Crawford is in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, playing shortstop and batting eighth.

Crawford did not start Game 1 with Clayton Kershaw on the mound, but he's starting against southpaw Caleb Ferguson in Game 2.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Out vs. Kershaw

Crawford is not starting Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Dodgers.

Crawford started Tuesday with southpaw Julio Urias on the mound and went 3-for-5, but he'll take a seat Thursday with Clayton Kershaw starting for Los Angeles. Donovan Solano will shift to shortstop while Wilmer Flores starts at the keystone.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

    Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Sitting Thursday

DeJong is not starting Thursday against the Pirates.

DeJong has appeared in four straight games since returning from the injured list, going 5-for-15 with four RBI in the process. Tommy Edman is manning shortstop in this one, with Brad Miller covering third base.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Hitting streak at 12 games

Turner went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies.

The steal was only his third of the season, but all three have come in the last nine games. Turner's been on a roll, hitting safety in 12 straight and posting a .404/.472/.745 slash line over that stretch with three homers, eight RBI and 15 runs, and his comfort level at the plate has extended to the basepaths as well.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Not starting versus lefty

Crawford is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Crawford started Tuesday with southpaw Julio Urias on the mound and went 3-for-5, but he'll take a seat Wednesday with Clayton Kershaw starting for Los Angeles. Donovan Solano will shift to shortstop while Wilmer Flores starts at the keystone.
