Kevin Smith DH | NYY
Athletics' Kevin Smith: Sitting out Tuesday
Smith (knee) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
The 25-year-old exited Monday's matchup with Houston due to a knee bruise, and he'll be withheld from the lineup for at least one game. Manager Mark Kotay previously said he expected Smith to be available Tuesday, so there's a chance he makes an appearance off the bench.

Johan Camargo SS | SF
Phillies' Johan Camargo: Gets fourth straight start
Camargo will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Tuesday's game against the Giants.
Camargo seems to have wrested the starting shortstop job back from Bryson Stott, who is on the bench Tuesday for the fourth game in a row. Didi Gregorius (knee) is set to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday and could be back by the end of the week, however, so Camargo's standing atop the depth chart likely won't last much longer.

Jeter Downs SS | NYY
Red Sox's Jeter Downs: Rejoins Triple-A lineup
Downs (side) started at shortstop and went 0-for-2 with two walks, two runs and his eighth stolen base of the season Sunday in Triple-A Worcester's 10-2 win over Lehigh Valley. He also reached base on a hit by pitch.
Downs was back in the lineup for the first time in a week after he had been sidelined with side discomfort. After playing a full nine innings to close out the weekend, Downs is seemingly back to 100 percent health. The 23-year-old has endured a rough go of things in his return to Worcester this season, as he's managed a modest .743 OPS across 159 plate appearances.

Wander Franco SS | TB
Rays' Wander Franco: Hits injured list with quad strain
Franco was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a strained right quadriceps, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
Franco left Monday's game against the Rangers with the injury, which turns out to be serious enough to cost him at least 10 days. Whether or not he's at risk of missing considerably more time than that is uncertain. Taylor Walls should become the primary shortstop in Franco's absence, opening up more at-bats at second and third base for Vidal Brujan and Isaac Paredes.

Tim Anderson 2B | LAA
White Sox's Tim Anderson: Move to IL official
The White Sox placed Anderson (groin) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
Manager Tony La Russa had already said that Anderson would land on the IL as a result of the right groin strain he sustained in Sunday's win over the Cubs, but the White Sox elected to wait until shortly before Tuesday's series opener in Toronto to make the transaction official. Chicago activated Luis Robert (illness) from the COVID-19-related IL in a corresponding move, and he could end up settling in as the White Sox's leadoff man while Anderson is on the shelf. The White Sox will likely look to a combination of Leury Garcia (side) and Danny Mendick to fill in at shortstop for Anderson.

Carlos Correa SS | HOU
Twins' Carlos Correa: Lands on COVID-19 IL
The Twins placed Correa (illness) on the COVID-19-related injured list Tuesday.
Correa's placement on the IL was fully expected after multiple reports surfaced Monday indicating that the 27-year-old tested positive for the virus. According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic, Correa is vaccinated, but he isn't feeling well since testing positive and may need more than a few days of recovery time to get his conditioning back in order once he's no longer symptomatic. Minnesota called up Jermaine Palacios from Triple-A St. Paul to provide additional depth in the middle infield, but it's unclear if he'll be deployed as the team's everyday shortstop or if the Twins will rely on a committee of Palacios, Jorge Polanco and Nick Gordon to fill in at the position while Correa is sidelined.

Francisco Lindor SS | NYM
Mets' Francisco Lindor: Swipes seventh bag
Lindor went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base in Monday's 13-5 win over the Nationals.
The shortstop is on fire right now, racking up six multi-hit performances in the last 11 games and batting .364 (16-for-44) over that stretch. The hot streak has boosted Lindor's slash line on the season to .262/.350/.450 with eight homers, seven steals, 37 runs and 40 RBI through 50 contests.

Nick Ahmed SS | TEX
Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Executes light activity
Ahmed (undisclosed) resumed light baseball activity May 27, Jack Sommers of MLB.com reports.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Ahmed is still dealing with fatigue, while the shortstop said he's "responded OK from" taking batting practice, fielding light groundballs and playing catch. "It hit me quick and hard," Ahmed said of the virus. "I've been trying to recover since. I'm still not back to normal yet, unfortunately." Geraldo Perdomo is the primary starter at shortstop while Ahmed works his way back.

Tucupita Marcano 2B | SD
Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Belts first big-league homer
Marcano went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a 6-5 win against the Dodgers on Monday.
In just his fifth game of the year, Marcano delivered a big shot against one of the NL's top pitchers, taking Walker Buehler deep for a three-run blast in the second inning. The long ball was Marcano's first as a major leaguer in his 55th career at-bat. He has never been much of a power hitter, topping out at seven homers in the minors during the 2021 campaign.

Tommy Edman LF | LAD
Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Two hits, steal in win
Edman went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 6-3 win over the Padres.
Edman was on base for Nolan Gorman's two-run home run in the third inning. In the fifth, Edman added an RBI single and a steal, his 11th theft in 12 attempts this season. This was his first steal since May 22. The versatile infielder has gone 16-for-51 (.314) in his last 11 contests. For the season, he's at 22 RBI, 37 runs scored, four home runs, eight doubles, three triples and a .282/.360/.425 slash line through 204 plate appearances.
