Mateo has gone 4-for-13 to start the season while earning starts in both left and center field.

Mateo has been a beneficiary of Trent Grisham's (hamstring) absence, as he's gotten plenty of work as the Padres' fourth outfielder to begin the season. He's done well with the opportunity, clubbing two extra-base hits. However, Grisham is expected to be activated from the injured list Friday, which is sure to diminish Mateo's role.

Correa went 2-for-3 with a double, a solo homer, a walk and two RBI during Thursday's victory over the Athletics.

He smashed a solo shot in the second inning off Cole Irvin, then knocked in teammate Yordan Alvarez with a two-bagger in the fourth. The 26-year-old is coming off a rough 2020 season, but he's off to a good start this year, having racked up five extra-base hits already.

Fletcher went 2-for-6 with three RBI in in Thursday's win over the Blue Jays.

The 26-year old knocked in a pair of go-ahead runs with a single in extra innings. Fletcher looks to pick up on where he left off the past couple of seasons and can prove to be a reliable leadoff hitter for an explosive Angels offense, as he slashed .319/.376/.425 in 2020.

Baez went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, a walk and a steal in Thursday's win over the Pirates.

Baez hit his second home run of the young season in the sixth inning against Pittsburgh starter Tyler Anderson. The shortstop is still slashing just .200/.259/.440 through seven games, but he's shown the ability to get hot in a hurry, so this long ball could be just the spark he needs. He's also swiped three bags already, matching his total from all of last season.

Story went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBI and a run scored during Thursday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Story was red hot at the plate in this one, cranking an RBI double in the first inning, then an RBI triple in the second, both against Merrill Kelly. Despite a somewhat slow start to the season, Story still ranks among the top stat producers in the game, so look for him to elevate his current .226/.250/.355 batting line to his career norms sooner than later.

Strange-Gordon signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Strange-Gordon was released by the Reds prior to Opening Day and received considerable interest in free agency. While the 32-year-old initially wanted to wait for a major-league deal, he'll settle for a minor-league contract with the Brewers. Even though Strange-Gordon won't be on the major-league roster right away, he could serve as depth in the middle infield at some point after Milwaukee traded Orlando Arcia to Atlanta on Tuesday.

Anderson estimated Thursday that he's about 85 percent recovered from his left hamstring strain, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Assuming Anderson's assessment of his injury aligns with the opinion of Chicago's team doctors, the shortstop could be in store for a minimum-lengthy stay on the 10-day injured list after he was deactivated Wednesday. He'll still have a few hurdles to clear in the recovery process before the White Sox reinstate him from the IL, including running the bases and playing the field with no visible limitations. As long as Anderson remains on the shelf, the White Sox will likely turn to Leury Garcia and Danny Mendick to fill in at shortstop.

Owings (hamstring) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against Arizona.

Owings had started four of the first six games of the season, but he exited Wednesday's win over the Diamondbacks due to right hamstring tightness. He's receiving treatment Thursday, and manager Bud Black is optimistic that Owings' injury is a short-term issue, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.

Bogaerts isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Bogaerts went 3-for-3 with two runs in Wednesday's win over the Rays and has had two multi-hit games in his last three appearances. However, Marwin Gonzalez will start at shortstop Thursday, batting sixth.

Rockies manager Bud Black clarified that Owings was removed from Wednesday's 8-0 win over the Diamondbacks due to right hamstring tightness, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

The club initially announced that Owings was lifted for Sam Hilliard in the top of the sixth inning due to right leg soreness, but Black provided more information about the utility man's injury after the contest. Black was careful to note that Owings isn't dealing with a strain, so his early exit is being labeled precautionary. Before departing, Owings went 3-for-3 with a triple, two doubles, two RBI and a run, strengthening his case for continuing to receive steady at-bats moving forward. Owings has started in four of the Rockies' first six games.
