  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Back in action Tuesday

Bogaerts (illness) is back in the lineup for Tuesday's contest with the Mariners, batting sixth and playing shortstop, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

The young shortstop was scratched from Monday's contest with an illness, but it seems like a night off was just what the doctor ordered. Bogaerts will resume his normal role in the lineup, bumping Deven Marrero back to the bench.

Nationals' Trea Turner: Fields grounders, awaiting X-ray results

Turner (wrist) fielded groundballs with the big-league club Tuesday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

He is awaiting the results of X-rays he had earlier in the day, and while he was fielding grounders, he was not permitted to throw to first base. Turner is still wearing a brace on his wrist, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports. He did conditioning work and lifted weights recently in Florida, as he continues to make slow progress in his recovery.

  • Bo Bichette 3B | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Hand hurting after HBP

Bichette was removed from High-A Dunedin's game Monday after being struck in the right hand by a pitch. X-rays following the contest came back negative, according to John Lott of The Athletic Toronto.

It sounds like Bichette is still dealing with some soreness and is being listed as day-to-day, but he was fortunate to avoid any sort of fracture to his hand that may have derailed his season. The shortstop has been in the Florida State League for less than a month after opening the campaign with Low-A Lansing, but his bat hasn't cooled down since his promotion. In 13 games with Dunedin, Bichette is batting .385/.431/.481 with a home run and three steals.

  • Miguel Rojas 2B | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Injures shoulder Monday

Rojas injured his shoulder during Monday's game against the Rangers, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.

Rojas suffered the injury while diving for a ball in the sixth inning, but he was able to stay in for the remainder of the game. The shortstop will see a doctor Tuesday to determine the severity of his injury. He'll be considered day-to-day for the time being.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Scratched due to illness

Bogaerts was scratched from the lineup Monday due to an illness, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

It's certainly positive news that Bogaerts was scratched from the lineup due to an illness and not a reemergence of the hand injury that plagued him last week. The star shortstop should be considered day-to-day.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Scratched from Monday's lineup

Bogaerts was a late scratch from the lineup prior to Monday's game against the Mariners, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Bogaerts missed a couple of games last week with a sprained hand, but the reason for his removal from Monday's lineup has not been announced. Deven Marrero will take over at shortstop.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Gets mental break

Anderson was not in the starting lineup for a second consecutive day Sunday, as manager Rick Renteria wanted to give the struggling young shortstop a "little mental break," Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Renteria sat down with Anderson at length prior to Sunday's game and said the shortstop is "in as good a place as he can be right now." Anderson is currently mired in a 12-for-61 (.197) skid that has dropped his average to .243. It sounds like the young shortstop will be back in the lineup Monday, when the White Sox tangle with the crosstown-rival Cubs.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Staking claim to shortstop job

DeJong, who went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Cubs, is staking a claim to the everyday shortstop job previously held by Aledmys Diaz, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports. "The way he's going about it defensively, it's hard to see him being anywhere else right now," manager Mike Matheny said. "And you mix in the offense and what he's capable of doing, that really puts him as a pretty special shortstop."

Last season, Diaz was the rookie that swooped in and displaced veteran Jhonny Peralta during the latter's absence in the early going of the campaign. Through his impressive play and Diaz's own struggles, DeJong may have already done the same. Factoring in Sunday's production, the rookie's season line stands at .284/.299/.574, and his 25 extra-base hits in 46 games heading into the contest had already tied him for first in that category in franchise history with Albert Pujols. DeJong's 15 extra-base hits in July are tops in the National League as well, and he's also been an asset defensively, posting a plus-5 in Defensive Runs Saved. With Diaz continuing to scuffle at the plate with Triple-A Memphis, it appears increasingly likely that DeJong's major-league audition will continue through the balance of 2017.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Contributes two-run homer in 13-3 win

Story went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, a walk and another run scored Sunday against the Pirates.

Story's home run was one of five mashed by the home team in this 13-3 blowout. The 24-year-old shortstop has hit 23 of his 40 career homers at Coors Field, which is actually a pretty even split compared to most of his teammates in Colorado.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Another X-ray on tap

Turner (wrist) will undergo follow-up X-rays in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo indicated Sunday that Turner has progressed from the fractured right wrist as anticipated, but the team won't have a clearer idea of the extent of his healing until the results of the X-rays are made available. Turner has yet to resume baseball activities and remains without a firm timetable for a return.
