  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Placed on concussion IL

The Twins placed Correa on the 7-day concussion injured list Friday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Correa entered concussion protocol after colliding with Byron Buxton (head) in the outfield during Thursday's game against Baltimore. He'll now be out for at least the next seven days, and the earliest he could return is May 23 against the Royals. The Twins promoted Ryan Fitzgerald from Triple-A St. Paul, and he could see some work in the infield behind Brooks Lee for as long as Correa is sidelined.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Scratched with back tightness

Edwards was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays due to back tightness, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports.

Edwards has started all 42 games for the Marlins so far this season, but he'll be forced to the bench Friday due to the back issue. The 25-year-old should be considered day-to-day while Javier Sanoja steps in at shortstop for Miami.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Out of Friday's lineup

Correa (head) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers.

A nasty collision Thursday against Baltimore sent Correa and Byron Buxton into the concussion protocol, and both players are on the bench for Friday's series opener in Milwaukee. Correa continues to be evaluated, but a stint on the 7-day injured list will be on tap if he's officially diagnosed with a concussion.

  • Mookie Betts RF | LAD

Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Reaches three times in blowout

Betts went 1-for-1 with two walks, three runs and an RBI in Thursday's 19-2 romp over the Athletics.

All of Betts' plate appearances came in the first three innings, with his RBI coming on a single in the second. The Dodgers held a 13-2 lead at that point, so manager Dave Roberts elected to give Betts and a few other regulars some extra rest by pulling them from the contest. Betts has collected at least one RBI in four straight contests and is slashing .339/.397/.51 with two homers, 20 runs, 15 RBI and two stolen bases over his past 15 games.

  • Jacob Amaya SS | ARI

White Sox's Jacob Amaya: DFA'd by White Sox

The White Sox designated Amaya for assignment Friday.

The 26-year-old opened the campaign as Chicago's primary shortstop, but he's fallen into a reserve role the past few weeks and has now been removed from the 40-man roster. Amaya had a horrid start to the campaign with a .097/.119/.113 slash line through 68 plate appearances.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

    Nationals' CJ Abrams: Lifts homer

Abrams went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a stolen base during Thursday's 5-2 loss to Atlanta.

Abrams notched his sixth home run of the season, tagging left-handed reliever Dylan Lee for a solo shot in the eighth frame. He's been red hot at the plate recently, going 15-for-34 (.441) with two home runs, two doubles and two stolen bases over his last eight appearances. He has a .927 OPS on the season.

  • Bo Bichette 3B | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Three hits in Thursday's loss

Bichette went 3-for-4 with a double in Thursday's 8-3 loss to the Rays.

This was Bichette's fourth multi-hit effort over his last six games. He's also made some progress in the power department in that span, racking up two home runs and three doubles while going 9-for-23 (.391). Overall, the shortstop is slashing .290/.338/.415 with three homers, 21 RBI, 18 runs scored, 14 doubles and four steals over 43 contests.

  • Brice Matthews SS | HOU

Astros' Brice Matthews: Lands on injured list

Matthews was placed on Triple-A Sugar Land's 7-day injured list after suffering a concussion Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Matthews suffered the injury on a slide. It's unfortunate timing, as he had been showing significant skills growth with Sugar Land prior to the injury. Notably, he had maintained a .269/.398/.462 line across his last 23 games.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: In concussion protocol

Correa is in concussion protocol after exiting Thursday's game versus the Orioles following a collision with teammate Byron Buxton, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

Correa was backpedaling as he chased a pop-up in the third inning and his head snapped back violently after he collided with Buxton. The shortstop immediately left the game and Buxton -- who is also in concussion protocol -- was eventually pulled. The Twins could have more on the status of both players after the contest.

  • Brice Matthews SS | HOU

Astros' Brice Matthews: Cutting Ks at Triple-A

Matthews is slashing .269/.398/.462 with four home runs, eight steals, a 17.3 percent walk rate and a 23.5 percent strikeout rate over his last 23 games with Triple-A Sugar Land.

Matthews hit for the cycle Saturday and all four of his home runs this year have come after April 15. He has also cut his strikeout rate after striking out 35.5 percent of the time in the first 14 games of the year. Matthews is the Astros' second baseman of the future, provided he makes enough contact at the highest level. He has a low chase rate (19.9 percent), but his 65.4 percent contact rate and 14.0 percent swinging strike rate are poor marks.
