Bassitt took a no-decision Monday against the Reds, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out six.

Monday represented Bassitt's first quality start since his Aug. 3 start against the Royals. The veteran right-hander has walked multiple batters in six consecutive outings, though he has fanned at least six in three straight appearances. Bassitt will take a 4.10 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 154:46 K:BB across 156 innings into his next outing, which is slated for this weekend on the road against a Yankees team with an .803 OPS since the beginning of August.

Morton took a no-decision Monday against the Mets, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks in 3.2 innings. He struck out three.

It was Morton's shortest outing since June 7 against the Athletics, and it also was the third time he's surrendered at least five runs in his last five starts. The four walks fell one short of a season worst, and the veteran right-hander has issued multiple free passes in four straight appearances. Morton owns a 5.81 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 39:14 K:BB over 31 frames since joining the Tigers, which makes him difficult to trust in his next scheduled start against a hard-hitting Yankees lineup.

Gipson-Long will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to start Tuesday's game against the Mets in Detroit, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Gipson-Long holds a 4.32 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB in 25 innings covering two starts and four relief appearances for the Tigers this season. He hasn't reached the five-inning mark in an appearance since late June, so the right-hander could be in line for a relatively abbreviated outing Tuesday. Gipson-Long seems likely to be shifted to long relief after Tuesday's spot start, if he isn't optioned back to Triple-A.

Mountcastle is absent from the lineup for Monday's contest in San Diego.

Mountcastle started each of the previous five games, but he'll take a seat against righty Dylan Cease and the Padres on Monday. Samuel Basallo will serve as the designated hitter and Coby Mayo will handle first base for Baltimore in the series opener.

Cowser is out of the lineup for Monday's game in San Diego.

Cowser had started 14 straight contests upon his return from a concussion Aug. 17, but he'll get a day off for the Orioles' series opener versus the Padres. Dylan Carlson will start in center field and bat sixth Monday.

The Rays recalled Kelly from Triple-A Durham on Monday.

Kelly holds an unsightly 5.93 ERA and 1.57 WHIP through 27.1 innings with the Rays this season. He'll give the club another relief arm for the final month of the campaign.

The Orioles recalled Handley from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

Handley will provide the Orioles with a third catching option in September, joining Samuel Basallo and Alex Jackson. The 27-year-old has previously logged 41 plate appearances with the Orioles earlier this season, slashing .073/.133/.073 with three RBI and two runs in 16 games.

The Rays activated Palacios (knee/hamstring) from the 60-day injured list Monday.

Palacios has been limited to just one game for the Rays this season, first due to a fractured finger and more recently because of knee and hamstring problems. However, the 28-year-old recently played nine rehab games with Triple-A Durham -- going 6-for-33 with two home runs -- and is ready to rejoin the big club. Palacios should see a decent amount of playing time during the final month between second base and the outfield.

The Orioles activated Suarez (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Monday.

Suarez hasn't pitched in the big leagues since suffering a shoulder strain in his first appearance of the season back on March 28. He made five rehab appearances, registering a 3.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 5:6 K:BB across 12.2 innings of work. Now healthy again, Suarez is expected to work as a long-relief option for Baltimore.

The Yankees activated Yarbrough (oblique) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

Yarbrough had been on the shelf since June 22 due to a strained right oblique, but he's been cleared to rejoin the Yankees after delivering a 4.09 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 12:1 K:BB in 11 innings over three rehab appearances with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The southpaw had been working out of the rotation prior to being shelved, but with rookie Cam Schlittler excelling of late as the Yankees' fifth starter, manager Aaron Boone confirmed last week that Yarbrough will work out of the bullpen upon his return.
