Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Judge (elbow) will not play the outfield during the team's two-game series against the Rays that runs through Wednesday, and he is unsure whether Judge will be ready to play the field for the four-game set versus the Red Sox that concludes Sunday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Judge has expanded his throwing out to 150 feet as he works his way back from a right flexor strain. Boone conceded that Judge is unlikely to be able to throw like he normally does at any point this season, but the goal is to get him to a spot where "he can go out there and be able to protect himself and represent himself." With Judge limited to designated-hitter duty, the Yankees have been mixing in Giancarlo Stanton in right field, although they have been reluctant to make Stanton a full-time outfielder. Stanton's playing time could continue to be somewhat limited until Judge is ready to return to right field.

Dominguez started in all three of the Yankees' games in St. Louis over the weekend and went 5-for-14 with three RBI, one run and one stolen base, but he'll be the odd man out of the New York outfield in the series opener in Tampa while Giancarlo Stanton makes his return after being held out the last few days due to general soreness. With Aaron Judge occupying the designated-hitter spot for the time being as he continues to recover from an elbow injury, Boone appears to have settled on Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham and Stanton as his preferred outfield trio from left to right.

Wells will head to the bench for the fifth time in seven games and appears to have moved into the No. 2 spot on the depth chart while the Yankees have become increasingly more comfortable with using Ben Rice behind the plate. Though Wells remains the superior defender of the two, he hasn't helped his case for earning regular playing time by slashing an abysmal .119/.172/.186 with a 25 percent strikeout rate since the All-Star break.

The Guardians are expected to call up Messick from Triple-A Columbus to start or pitch in bulk relief Wednesday in Arizona, SI.com reports.

One of Cleveland's top pitching prospects, Messick will be making his MLB debut Wednesday as he steps into the rotation spot that previously belonged to Joey Cantillo, who was optioned to Triple-A over the weekend. Messick had been a standout performer at Columbus this season, generating a 3.47 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 119:42 K:BB in 98.2 innings over 20 starts. The 24-year-old southpaw could earn multiple turns through the Cleveland rotation if he fares well in his MLB debut, though he'll be at risk of losing his spot once rehabbing lefty John Means (elbow) is cleared to return from the 60-day injured list.

The Astros will recall VanWey from Triple-A Sugar Land prior to Tuesday's game in Detroit, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

VanWey will provide a fresh bullpen arm for the Astros. The 26-year-old holds a 6.23 ERA and 5:3 K:BB over 8.2 frames during his time with the big club this season.

Boone also noted that Stanton won't be in the lineup Wednesday against Tampa Bay prior to the team's four-game series against the Red Sox that begins Thursday.

Tellez started at first base and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Monday's 4-3 loss to Kansas City.

Tellez got the call at first base in the Rangers' first game after the team placed Jake Burger (wrist) on the 10-day injured list. Tellez could serve as the strong side of platoon at first base while Josh Smith covers right field in the absence of Adolis Garcia (ankle). Joc Pederson, who was the designated hitter Monday, is also a left-handed bat that could play first base against righties.

Smith started in right field and went 0-for-4 in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Royals.

Smith has started four consecutive games in right field, a spot that normally is filled by the injured Adolis Garcia (ankle). Smith makes a good living in Texas as a fill-in for injured players regardless of position. He's started games at first base (24), third base (28), shortstop (31) and all three outfield spots (13).

Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Monday's 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks.

Ramirez's first-inning single snapped an 0-for-11 funk over the previous three games, the second-longest slump of the season for the third baseman. The steal was his 36th of the season.
