Matz's (elbow) stint on the 15-day injured list is not expected to last long, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.

Matz was placed on the IL on Tuesday with left elbow inflammation. He felt soreness in the elbow after his last outing, but an MRI came back negative, and the belief is the injury was caught early. It's unclear when Matz will be ready to throw again, but he could be ready to rejoin the Rays' rotation later this month if all goes well.

Muncy (hand) has yet to resume baseball activities, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Muncy is a week removed from being placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured fifth metacarpal in his left hand. It's unclear when he might be ready to resume baseball activities. Muncy is eligible for activation Wednesday, but there's no announced timetable for his return.

Rice (hand) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

It's the second straight absence for Rice after he was removed early from Sunday's game against the Orioles due to a left hand contusion, which he sustained on a low pickoff throw. The 26-year-old said Tuesday that his hand feels better after treatment, and he will try swinging a bat pregame, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Rice should be considered day-to-day while Paul Goldschmidt receives another start at first base.

Hoglund (knee/back) was given a cortisone injection in his left hip May 1, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Hoglund has been out all season with knee and back injuries, so the injection for his hip could be related to his back issue. He had begun a throwing progression in late April, but it seems a setback led to the cortisone injection. There is no announced timetable for Hoglund's return.

Clarke (foot) has begun a running and hitting progression, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Clarke has been out for the past two weeks with a bone bruise in his right foot but is ready to start ramping up his rehab. There remains no timetable for the outfielder's return to the active roster, and he will likely require a rehab assignment before being activated.

Torres (side) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

The veteran second baseman is sitting for a third consecutive game after exiting Saturday's contest due to left side tightness. According to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, Torres said he's feeling better and plans to do some baseball work pregame Tuesday, which could allow him to be available off the bench.

Springer (foot) is batting leadoff as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Rays.

The 36-year-old hasn't seen the field since being hit by a pitch during Saturday's game against the Twins, but he's ready to rejoin the lineup after sitting out two games. In four games since returning from a fractured big toe, Springer has gone 4-for-12 with an RBI.

The Royals optioned Black to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.

Black turned in four scoreless relief appearances after being promoted, but despite that he finds himself headed back to the minors. Stephen Kolek (oblique) is back from the injured list to take Black's roster spot.

The Royals activated Kolek (oblique) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Kolek is set to make his season debut for the Royals with a start Tuesday versus the Guardians, slotting in as a replacement for Noah Cameron (back). Out since spring training with an oblique strain, Kolek posted a 2.76 ERA and 14:4 K:BB over 16.1 innings in four rehab starts with Triple-A Omaha. He threw 72 pitches in his final rehab appearance, so he could be limited slightly from a workload perspective Tuesday.

Guerrero is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays.

It's the first game off of the season for Guerrero, who has struggled a bit since the start of May, going 3-for-17 with two walks, an RBI and three runs. Lenyn Sosa will pick up a start at first base Tuesday for the Blue Jays.
