The 21-year-old Ewing has hit the ground running in the majors, going 3-for-9 with two extra-base hits, four walks and a stolen base in his first three games after slashing .339/.447/.514 with two homers and 17 stolen bases across 30 contests in the minors this year.

Nationals' Foster Griffin: Stumbles vs. Reds

Griffin (4-2) took the loss Thursday against Cincinnati, allowing nine runs on seven hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out seven.

While Griffin did log seven or more strikeouts for the third time in his last four outings, it was otherwise a day to forget for the left-hander. His ERA is now up to 3.53 on the year with a 1.14 WHIP and 49:18 K:BB across nine starts (51 innings). Griffin will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week at home against the Mets.

Reds' Chase Burns: Blanks Nats for fifth win

Burns (5-1) earned the win Thursday over Washington, allowing just two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out seven.

It's the fourth straight quality start for Burns, who's allowed just three runs over 25 innings during that span. The 23-year-old right-hander's ERA is down to a pristine 1.87 with a 1.00 WHIP and 55:18 K:BB across nine starts (53 innings) this season. Burns will look to keep rolling his next time out, currently scheduled as a road matchup with the Phillies.

  • Packy Naughton RP | STL

Cardinals' Packy Naughton: Set for elbow surgery

Naughton will undergo surgery next month to repair the damaged UCL in his left elbow, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Naughton has been sidelined at Triple-A Memphis since early April due to elbow trouble, and he's now officially opted to undergo surgery for the third time in the last two years. A timeline for his return will emerge after his procedure, though there's a strong chance that he will end up missing most, if not all, of the remaining 2026 schedule.

Reds' JJ Bleday: Two homers, six RBI in rout

Bleday went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and six total RBI in Thursday's 15-1 victory over the Nationals.

The Nationals optioned Kent to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday.

Kent allowed two runs over 2.2 innings in a relief outing Thursday versus the Reds. He threw 42 pitches in the appearance, so with Kent likely to be unavailable for a day or two, the Nationals will likely replace him with a fresh bullpen arm prior to Friday's tilt against the Orioles.

  • Pirates' Carmen Mlodzinski: Earns win in bulk role

Mlodzinski (3-3) earned the win Thursday over the Rockies, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out two.

After Mason Montgomery and Evan Sisk combined to blank Colorado through two innings, Mlodzinski entered in the third with the Pirates already ahead 3-0. The 27-year-old Mlodzinski has had an up-and-down year overall, but he's now allowed just two runs in each of his past two outings. The right-hander's ERA sits at 4.40 with a 1.44 WHIP and 43:16 K:BB across 45 innings this season.

Susac (elbow) is nearing a return and may be reinstated from the injured list as soon as Friday's game against the Athletics, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Susac was placed on the 10-day injured list April 21 and began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on May 7, slashing .529/.619/.882 with five RBI, five runs scored, two home runs and a stolen base in 21 plate appearances over five outings with the River Cats. The 25-year-old catcher could rejoin the parent club during its three-game trip to Sacramento before the Giants head to Arizona. Susac is expected to serve as San Francisco's primary option behind the plate with Patrick Bailey now in Cleveland, though Jesus Rodriguez is still likely to factor into the mix.
