Lord (4-8) yielded seven runs on five hits and two walks over three innings Sunday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Rays.

The Rays jumped on Lord early with a huge six-run second inning, capped off by Brandon Lowe's grand slam. Lord gave up another run in the third and ended his afternoon with 62 pitches (36 strikes). Since rejoining the Nationals' rotation in late July, he had thrown at least four innings in all seven starts before Sunday's ugly outing. Lord posted a 4.54 ERA during that seven-start span. He now owns a 4.34 ERA with an 85:35 K:BB through 103.2 innings this season. Lord is projected for a road start against the Cubs next weekend.

Devers went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double, a second RBI and two total runs scored in Sunday's 13-2 win over the Orioles.

Devers knocked in the Giants' first two runs in the romp, hitting a solo shot in the first inning before adding an RBI single in the third. He closed out August in good form, hitting five homers and supplying 12 RBI over his last 13 games of the month. He's now at a .262/.381/.484 slash line with 28 homers, 93 RBI, 81 runs scored, one stolen base and 30 doubles across 138 contests between San Francisco and Boston this year.

Bivens allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while failing to record a strikeout over three innings, earning the save in Sunday's 13-2 win over the Orioles.

Bivens was able to help spare the bullpen and came away with his second career save. The right-hander has done fine in a multi-inning relief role this year. He allowed eight runs (six earned) while posting an 8:4 K:BB over 16 innings across nine appearances in August. For the season, he has a 4.28 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 51:21 K:BB through 69.1 innings, all coming out of the bullpen.

Verlander (3-10) allowed three hits and four walks while striking out 10 over five scoreless innings to earn the win Sunday over the Orioles.

Verlander's pitch count got elevated quickly, but the Giants let him work long enough to qualify for the win since they held a commanding 7-0 lead through four innings. All told, he threw 81 of 121 pitches for strikes in this outing. He also recorded double-digit strikeouts for the first time in the regular season since his last start of 2022. He allowed 15 runs (13 earned) over 32.1 innings across his six starts in August, though he finished the month with a pair of wins. Overall, he has a 4.29 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 114:43 K:BB across 121.2 innings through 24 starts. Verlander's next outing is projected to be at St. Louis, assuming his heavy workload Sunday doesn't force him to take extra rest.

Chapman left Sunday's win over the Orioles early after fouling a ball off his left shin/foot, but he's "fine" and expects to be in the starting lineup Monday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

San Francisco was ahead 8-0 in the sixth inning at the time of Chapman's removal, and he was able to complete his plate appearance before being pulled, so it appears the third baseman's exit was precautionary. Nonetheless, fantasy managers who roster Chapman may be best served by keeping an eye on the Giants' lineup Monday to make sure the team does indeed give him the go-ahead to play.

The Reds outrighted Joe to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday.

Joe had been demoted to Triple-A on Aug. 2, when the Reds cleared room on the active roster for trade-deadline pickup Miguel Andujar. Since that date, Joe had slashed a lowly .200/.344/.300 over 17 games with Louisville, which likely took him out of consideration for a September call-up. He's now lost his spot on the 40-man roster and will have the ability to elect free agency.

Carroll went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Dodgers.

The Diamondbacks had little success against Los Angeles starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but Carroll cashed in a big and timely hit when he took reliever Tanner Scott deep to tie the game in the eighth inning. This was Carroll's second straight game with a homer, and he's logged four multi-hit efforts over his last seven contests. The 25-year-old outfielder already has a career-high 29 homers, and he has a month left to add to his total. He's added 71 RBI, 92 runs scored, 21 stolen bases, 27 doubles, 16 triples and a .258/.333/.559 slash line over 121 games this season.

Pfaadt allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five over 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Sunday.

Pfaadt opened August with a pair of wins before going winless across his last four starts of the month. He allowed 21 runs over 30.2 innings while posting a 24:8 K:B across his six outings during the month. Pfaadt remains inconsistent with a 5.33 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 122:33 K:BB through 147 innings across 28 starts this season. He has a low enough walk rate to find success if he can make his pitches a little less hittable. Pfaadt's next start is projected to be at home versus the Red Sox.

The Cubs are expected to recall Alcantara from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Alcantara received a brief cup of coffee with the Cubs last September, going 1-for-10 over three games. The 23-year-old has spent the entire season to date with Iowa and has produced well, slashing .266/.349/.470 with 17 home runs and 10 stolen bases over 102 games. The Cubs are expected to option outfielder Owen Caissie to Iowa to make room on the active roster for Alcantara, who likely won't be in store for much playing time in the Chicago outfield while all of Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Tucker are available.

Smith hit a walk-off solo home run in his lone at-bat in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Smith pinch hit for Dalton Rushing in the ninth inning and took Arizona reliever John Curtiss deep for the walk-off win. August wasn't kind to Smith -- while he hit three homers over 22 games, he batted just .159 (11-for-69) with 10 RBI and a 15:24 BB:K for the month. He's up to 17 homers, 60 RBI, 62 runs scored and two stolen bases while batting .293 with a .901 OPS through 107 contests this season.
