The Marlins placed Quantrill on outright waivers Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Given his $3.5 million salary, Quantrill is a good bet to clear waivers. The Marlins would have the ability to retain him at that point, although it's likelier the veteran right-hander will be cut loose. Quantrill has posted a 5.50 ERA and 82:30 K:BB over 109.2 innings this season and an 11.25 ERA in three starts this month.

Lodolo (finger) tossed a bullpen session Monday and is scheduled to throw off a mound again Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Though Lodolo is making good progress in his recovery from the left index finger blister that forced him to the injured list Aug. 5, the southpaw isn't on track to be activated when first eligible later this week. The Reds will likely wait until Lodolo completes his bullpen session Wednesday before determining his next steps, but manager Terry Francona said that the 27-year-old hasn't been ruled out from making a start during the team's road series versus the Dodgers that begins next Monday. Nick Martinez would be in line for another turn through the rotation if Lodolo isn't ready to go for the Dodgers series.

Riley (abdomen) felt more soreness during a workout Tuesday and is not expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list anytime soon, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Riley has been sidelined for most of August with a strained lower abdominal muscle and continues to feel discomfort each time he attempts to ramp up activities. With Atlanta out of playoff contention, the club has little incentive to push its third baseman back onto the active roster. Consider Riley out indefinitely. Nacho Alvarez will continue to occupy the hot corner in Riley's absence.

Gray (elbow) threw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

It's the first time Gray has faced hitters since he underwent Tommy John surgery with an internal brace in July 2024. Gray could make a late-season return to the Nationals' active roster, but the primary goal will be to have him ready to go for the 2026 campaign.

The Mets recalled Senger from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

Francisco Alvarez (thumb) is headed back to the injured list, so Senger will rejoin the Mets to serve as the club's backup catcher. The 28-year-old has a .174/.208/.196 slash line in 49 MLB plate appearances this year, and he isn't likely to see much playing time behind fill-in starter Luis Torrens.

Beck is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Dodgers.

Beck will receive a routine day off after starting the last eight contests for the Rockies. Mickey Moniak will play left field and first baseman Warming Bernabel will be elevated to the cleanup spot Tuesday.

The Mets placed Alvarez on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right thumb Tuesday, and he'll be re-evaluated in 10-to-14 days.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury during Sunday's win over the Mariners, when he jammed his thumb on a head-first slide into second base. Alvarez appears to be a good bet to return before the end of the season, but when exactly he's ready to go will depend how well he recovers over the next couple of weeks.

Pirates interim manager Don Kelly said Tuesday that Oviedo will be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Wednesday against the Blue Jays at PNC Park, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Oviedo should be given a chance to stake claim to a rotation spot for the remainder of the season. The right-hander lasted only one inning in a start earlier this month against the Giants, which was his first big-league outing since September 2023. Oviedo has pitched well in two starts at Indianapolis since then, however, yielding four runs (three earned) with a 15:3 K:BB across 8.2 frames.

Locklear is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians.

Locklear has now been on the bench for two straight games versus right-handers since Pavin Smith returned from the injured list. While the 24-year-old should operate as more than a short-side platoon bat, it's clear that Smith will put a significant dent in Locklear's playing time.

The Phillies designated Walker for assignment Tuesday.

The left-hander has been at Triple-A Lehigh Valley since being acquired from the Blue Jays in May, but Walker will lose his place on the Phillies' 40-man roster without getting a look in the majors. He made 23 relief appearances at Lehigh Valley and had a 4.50 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 22:12 K:BB across 26 innings.
