  • Jim Jarvis SS | ATL

Braves' Jim Jarvis: Settling in at shortstop

Jarvis will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Padres.

Jarvis will cover shortstop for the fifth game in a row, with three of those starts coming against righties and two coming versus lefties. Since being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on July 2, Jarvis has posted a strong .297/.333/.459 slash line with one home run, four RBI and five runs in 11 games and has provided solid defense in the middle infield. So long as he keeps hitting, Jarvis should be able to hold down a near-everyday role at shortstop while Mauricio Dubon is needed in the outfield as long as at least one of Ronald Acuna (hamstring) and Mike Yastrzemski (elbow) remain on the shelf.

  • Dominic Smith DH | ATL

Braves' Dominic Smith: Retreating to bench versus lefty

Smith is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres.

The left-handed-hitting Smith will hit the bench for the second time in four games since the All-Star break while Atlanta goes up against lefty JP Sears in the series opener. With Smith taking a seat, Drake Baldwin will get a day off from catching but will stay in the lineup at designated hitter.

  • Brewer Hicklen RF | ATL

    Braves' Brewer Hicklen: Sitting Monday

Hicklen is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres.

Since being promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett on July 11, Hicklen has started in Atlanta's last three matchups versus right-handed pitching, but he's sat the last two times the club has matched up against lefties. Eli White will get the nod in right field Monday, but both he and Hicklen will see their playing time tail off when Ronald Acuna (hamstring) potentially returns from the injured list later this week.

  • Zach Brzykcy RP | MIA

Marlins' Zach Brzykcy: Summoned from minors

The Marlins recalled Brzykcy from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday.

Brzykcy has spent nearly all of the season at Jacksonville, where he's logged a 4.09 ERA and 35:19 K:BB over 33 innings. The right-hander will operate in low-leverage relief.

  • Max Meyer SP | MIA

Marlins' Max Meyer: Sidelined by neck strain

The Marlins placed Meyer on the 15-day injured list Monday with a neck strain.

According to manager Clayton McCullough, Meyer first reported discomfort in his neck during his July 7 start against the Mariners, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports. He was given extra rest before his next outing but labored through three innings Saturday in Milwaukee. The right-hander will be eligible for activation Aug. 4, but the Marlins have not yet offered a timeline for Meyer's return. Braxton Garrett has pitched well lately at Triple-A Jacksonville and could take Meyer's spot in the Miami rotation.

  • Juan Burgos RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Juan Burgos: Added to big-league bullpen

The Diamondbacks recalled Burgos from Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Burgos can provide multiple innings for an overused Arizona bullpen. The 26-year-old allowed one run in 1.1 innings in his lone appearance for the Diamondbacks earlier this season, and he's posted a 5.88 ERA and 23:15 K:BB over 33.2 frames with Reno.

  • Philip Abner RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Philip Abner: Dispatched to Reno

The Diamondbacks optioned Abner to Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Abner threw 46 pitches over two shutout innings in Sunday's win over the Cardinals, so he's being sent out in favor of a fresh bullpen arm. It will be Juan Burgos taking Abner's spot on the roster.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Taking seat Monday

Kelly is not in the lineup for Monday's contest against the Tigers.

It's a routine day off for Kelly. Miguel Amaya will do the catching for the Cubs and occupy the No. 9 spot in the batting order.

  • Daylen Lile LF | WAS

Nationals' Daylen Lile: Sitting versus southpaw

Lile is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Colorado.

The left-handed-hitting Lile plays against most lefties, but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Rockies send southpaw Kyle Freeland to the hill. Andres Chaparro is picking up a start in Lile's stead.

  • Corbin Carroll RF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Held out of Arizona lineup

Carroll (elbow) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Athletics, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Carroll was lifted from Sunday's game against the Cardinals after suffering a hyperextended right elbow on a swing. He is considered day-to-day. Jorge Barrosa will take over in right field for the Diamondbacks while Carroll rests.
