Rea won't start Sunday's game against the Giants, but manager Craig Counsell said the right-hander is expected to "be involved" in the pitching plan, Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Ryan Rolison will instead start Sunday's series finale as an opener, lining up Rea to fill a bulk role out of the bullpen. The 35-year-old surrendered seven runs during his last start but was effective in the three outings prior to that with a 3.57 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 17.2 innings.

MIze (adductor) won't be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday against the Guardians after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Cleveland.

The two teams will make up the game as part of a split doubleheader Sept. 4. After making a five-inning rehab start with Single-A Lakeland earlier in the week, Mize had been slated to make his first appearance for Detroit since May 27. Due to the postponement, however, the Tigers will push Mize's return back three days, with the right-hander now scheduled to be activated from the IL to start Wednesday in Houston, per Jason Beck of MLB.com.

Gage (knee) allowed one hit while striking out two across 1.2 scoreless innings during a rehab appearance for Single-A San Jose on Saturday.

Gage was placed on the 15-day injured list June 3 due to knee inflammation and received the starting nod in the first game of his rehab assignment. He was pulled after throwing 23 pitches, 16 of which were strikes. Prior to going on the IL, the left-handed reliever posted a 2.63 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 19:13 K:BB across 24 innings.

Thomas went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Saturday's 8-7 loss to the Astros.

Thomas jumped on a center-cut sinker from Mike Burrows in the fourth inning, blasting a 432-foot homer into the fountains at Kauffman Stadium for his third long ball of the season. The veteran outfielder has been productive when called upon in June, going 9-for-30 (.300) with two homers, six RBI, six runs and five walks across 11 appearances. With Vinnie Pasquantino (hand) expected to miss significant time, Thomas could see additional opportunities in right field, with Jac Caglianone shifting to first base.

Williams won't start as scheduled Sunday against the Tigers after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Cleveland.

The Guardians have a team day off Monday, so Williams will end up with a few extra days of rest before taking the mound Wednesday in Milwaukee, per Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. The right-hander has surrendered four home runs and six earned runs in his past two starts, but he still has a 4-0 record with a 2.59 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 33:6 K:BB in 31.1 innings across his last five outings.

The Padres selected Hunt's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

Top backstop Freddy Fermin (concussion) was placed on the 7-day injured list Sunday, so Hunt will receive the second big-league call-up of his career. He's still waiting to make his MLB debut, however, as he didn't get the chance to play during a one-day stint in the majors with the Orioles in 2024. Hunt will add depth at catcher behind Rodolfo Duran, who is expected to serve as the Padres' primary option behind the plate while Fermin is on the shelf.

The Padres placed Fermin (concussion) on the 7-day injured list Sunday.

Fermin was diagnosed with a concussion following his early exit Saturday, when he was hit in the mask by a warm-up pitch in the sixth inning. San Diego called up Blake Hunt from Triple-A El Paso to work behind the plate with Rodolfo Duran, who will handle catching duties during Sunday's series finale in Baltimore.

Jensen went 2-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 8-7 loss to the Astros.

Jensen doubled up on doubles, with his second two-bagger of the night coming with the bases loaded and clearing them in the sixth inning. The catcher is in the midst of a modest six-game hitting streak, during which he has gone 7-for-24 (.292) with a homer, four doubles, seven RBI and five runs scored. On the year, the 22-year-old is slashing .220/.289/.393 with eight homers, 13 doubles, 35 RBI and 29 runs across 242 plate appearances.

Suzuki (knee) will serve as the Cubs' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Sunday's game against the Giants.

Though the Cubs will turn to Michael Conforto to cover right field, the right knee issue that forced Suzuki out of Saturday's contest in the fourth inning won't keep him out of the lineup entirely Sunday as he looks to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Given that Suzuki tweaked the same knee in the World Baseball Classic and opened the season on the injured list, it wouldn't be surprising if the Cubs limited him to DH duties for the next few games as a precaution.

Wisdom is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

After making five consecutive starts and going 2-for-18 with two walks and a run, Wisdom has been relegated to the bench for the Mariners' subsequent four contests. Miles Mastrobuoni has been the main option at third base since coming off the 60-day injured list Wednesday, but he'll shift into a utility role once J.P. Crawford (hand) makes his return from the 10-day IL on Tuesday. When Crawford gets activated, Wisdom could be at risk of being pushed off the roster.
