Marsee (knee) will start in center field and bat seventh in Tuesday's game versus the Mariners.

Marsee had to be lifted from Sunday's game against the Athletics with a right knee contusion, but he will not have to miss a start, as Miami's team off day Monday evidently afforded the outfielder enough rest. The 25-year-old is slashing a disappointing .192/.316/.296 this season but does have five home runs and 18 stolen bases.

Akin will receive a second opinion on his injured left elbow from Dr. Keith Meister next week, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Akin landed on the 15-day injured list in late June with soreness in his pitching elbow. It seems he could be looking at an extended absence, but more will be known following his visit with Dr. Meister.

The Athletics reinstated Wilson (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

The 24-year-old shortstop has been on the shelf nearly two weeks due to right thumb inflammation, and it's a bit of a surprise he's returning so quickly given that it was recently reported by MLB.com that he hadn't been swinging a bat since landing on the IL. Wilson is apparently good to go, however, and should reclaim the starting job at shortstop now that he's healthy. Through 50 games this season, he has a .277/.310/.386 slash line with four home runs, two steals, 26 RBI and 23 runs in 214 plate appearances.

Helsley will solicit a second opinion on his injured right elbow, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

The Orioles have not revealed the initial prognosis, but Helsley will seek out another evaluation before making a decision as to the next course of action. Helsley missed seven weeks of action with right elbow inflammation earlier this season and landed back on the IL this past Friday with more elbow trouble. The Orioles could have more information on Helsley's status later this week. Tyler Wells has notched two straight saves for Baltimore since Helsley was injured.

The Phillies recalled Lazar from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The right-hander was up with the Phillies for a few days in mid-June, when he allowed two runs on three hits with a 4:0 K:BB over four innings. Lazar, who has a 4.19 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 16 relief outings at Lehigh Valley, should fill a low-leverage role out of the bullpen for Philadelphia.

Perez (orbital) played light catch on the field at Comerica Park on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

It's the first time Perez has done any baseball activities since he fractured an orbital bone in mid-June. Perez still has a long way to go in his rehab, and he's not eligible for activation from the 60-day injured list until mid-August.

The Phillies optioned Backhus to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.

Backhus pitched each of the last two days, so the Phillies will replace him with a fresh bullpen arm. It will be Max Lazar taking Backhus' spot on the roster.

The Red Sox "remain hopeful" Suarez (adductor) can avoid the 15-day injured list, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Suarez was forced from Sunday's outing against the Angels in the third inning due to left adductor tightness. He will be re-evaluated Tuesday, at which point the Red Sox will have a better idea as to whether Suarez can make his next start which is tentatively lined up for Saturday against the Mets. With the All-Star break looming, the Red Sox could play it safe and hold Suarez out. Suarez made the All-Star team, but there's a good chance he'll be replaced on the AL roster.

The Brewers transferred Lockridge (knee) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

The transaction makes space on the 40-man roster for the addition of Greg Jones. It doesn't alter the timetable for Lockridge, who has been sidelined since early May with a right patella injury. Lockridge isn't expected back until at least late July.

The Brewers selected Jones' contract from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

Jones went 2-for-21 at the plate during a stint with the Brewers earlier this season and has slashed .289/.423/.380 with one home run and 21 stolen bases with Nashville. The 28-year-old will be a backup at all three outfield spots as well as second base.
