Avila didn't factor into the decision Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over five innings in a 3-2 victory over the Twins. He struck out three.

The 24-year-old right-hander was lifted after 70 effective pitches (46 strikes) with the score tied 1-1, denying Avila his second win of the season. He's looked good since rejoining the Royals in late April, posting a 2.84 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 22:15 K:BB through 25.1 innings over his last 10 appearances (three starts). Avila will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is set to come at home next weekend against the Astros.

Montero (2-4) took the loss Saturday as the Tigers fell 4-0 to the Mariners, giving up four runs on six hits and and a walk over five innings. He struck out one.

Half the hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, including a solo homer by Dominic Canzone in the fourth inning. Montero has been tagged for four runs in three of his last five outings, a stretch in which he's stumbled to a 5.13 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB in 26.1 innings. With Tarik Skubal (elbow), Justin Verlander (hip) and Casey Mize (thigh) all closing in on returns from the IL in the next couple weeks, Montero's time in the Detroit rotation could be coming to an end very soon.

Canzone went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Tigers.

After just missing a homer to straightaway center field in the second inning and settling for an RBI double, Canzone got hold of a Keider Montero fastball to lead off the fourth and crushed it 451 feet. It was Canzone's third homer and his fourth multi-hit performance in the last seven games, a surge that has pushed his slash line on the year to .275/.342/.529 with eight long balls, 21 runs and 25 RBI in 56 contests.

The Nationals are expected to recall Cornelio from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday, Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports.

Cornelio will make his way back up to the big-league club ahead of Sunday's series finale versus the Diamondbacks after being demoted to Rochester on April 24. The 26-year-old has posted a 4.87 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 64:26 K:BB in 44.1 innings at the Triple-A level this season.

Miller (2-0) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one hit and two walks over six scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the Tigers. He struck out nine.

No longer working in tandem with Luis Castillo, Miller completed six innings for the first time in five starts since coming off the IL while setting a season high in strikeouts. The right-hander has been outstanding since making his belated 2026 debut in mid-May, posting a 1.33 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 29:5 K:BB through 27 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Baltimore.

The Athletics traded Kuhnel to Milwaukee in exchange for cash considerations on Saturday.

After being designated for assignment Friday, the Athletics decided to trade Kuhnel to Milwaukee. The 31-year-old imploded in his last appearance, allowing four earned runs on five hits in just two-thirds of an inning and took the loss after blowing a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth. On the season, the right-hander has recorded a 4.21 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB in 25.2 innings.

Vientos will have to continue competing for at-bats with Jared Young and MJ Melendez, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.

The recent emergence of Young in particular has already started to cost Vientos playing time in the first few days of June. Vientos also hasn't helped his cause by mustering just a .125 average (4-for-32) over his last 10 games dating back to May 24. Manager Carlos Mendoza labels the situation a "healthy competition," and he did afford Vientos a start at designated hitter Saturday.

Salazar cleared waivers and received an outright assignment to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Salazar was designated for assignment Thursday but will stay in the Astros' organization with Sugar Land. The 30-year-old could be recalled to the big leagues if Christian Vazquez or Collin Price is sidelined.

The Nationals optioned Henry to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday.

Despite tossing two scoreless innings in Friday's 14-1 win over the Diamondbacks, Henry is still carrying a 6.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB across 12 frames this season. Washington has yet to announce a replacement for Henry on the 26-man active roster, but the team could look to bring a fresh relief arm aboard ahead of Sunday's series finale.

Alonso went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Blue Jays.

Alonso cut a 6-1 deficit in half with a 421-foot blast in the sixth inning. It extended his hitting streak to 10 games, a stretch that includes three homers, seven RBI and eight runs scored. On the year, the slugger is slashing .246/.325/.452 with 13 long balls, 40 RBI, 38 runs scored and two steals across 280 plate appearances.
