Carpenter (shoulder) hit in a simulated game Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Carpenter took at-bats against fellow rehabber Justin Verlander (hip) in what was his first time facing live pitching since he went down with an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder in early May. A rehab assignment appears imminent for the 29-year-old Carpenter.

The Rays optioned Martin to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

Tampa Bay recalled Martin from Triple-A on May 15, but he went unused out of the bullpen for more than a week and a half before making a three-inning long-relief appearance in Tuesday's 6-1 loss to Baltimore after starter Griffin Jax (back) made an early exit. Since Martin was unlikely to be available for another day or two after the 52-pitch outing, the Rays opted to swap him off the 26-man active roster in favor of a fresh relief arm in right-hander Jonathan Heasley, who was called up from Durham.

The Rays selected Heasley's contract from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

Heasley had been serving as a swingman at Durham this season, making seven appearances (four starts) while logging a 3.90 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 27.2 innings. Though he could eventually be an option in the Tampa Bay rotation, for the time being, Heasley is expected to settle into a bullpen role. He'll give the Rays another arm who's capable of covering multiple innings after Tampa Bay placed Jesse Scholtens (wrist) on the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Gasper will start at catcher and bat sixth in Wednesday's game versus Atlanta.

It's the second straight start behind the plate and third start over the last four contests for Gasper. The Red Sox are carrying three catchers and have been using all of them, with Gasper, Carlos Narvaez and Connor Wong all netting at least two starts at catcher over the last 10 games. Gasper also has an additional three starts at designated hitter during that stretch.

The Rays transferred Lux (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Lux has already missed more than 60 days while he's been on the shelf all season, initially due to a right shoulder impingement before he sprained his left ankle April 11 while on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham. He was cleared to return to action in the minors approximately two weeks later, only to be shut down earlier this month after suffering a setback with his shoulder injury. While the move to the 60-day IL won't affect Lux's timeline for a return, it will allow the Rays to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Jonathan Heasley, who was called up from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move.

Double-A Reading reinstated Pan (elbow) from its 7-day injured list May 19 and assigned him to High-A Jersey Shore.

Pan has completed his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in November 2024. The right-hander could eventually move up to Reading, but he'll stick around for the time being at Jersey Shore, with whom he's struck out four over five scoreless frames in four appearances.

Rincones (knee) started in right field and went 1-for-5 in his return to the lineup Tuesday in Triple-A Lehigh Valley's 5-4 loss to Buffalo after being reinstated from the 7-day injured list.

Tuesday marked the 2026 Triple-A debut for Rincones, who had been on the shelf all season while recovering from left knee soreness. Rincones was cleared to rejoin the Triple-A club after going 6-for-33 (.182 average) with a home run, two steals and an 8:9 BB:K over 41 plate appearances in 10 rehab games between Single-A Clearwater and High-A Jersey Shore.

Muncy (wrist) played third base during the ninth inning of Tuesday's 15-6 rout of the Rockies.

Muncy was absent from the starting lineup for the fourth straight game after getting hit on the right wrist by a pitch Friday. However, he logged game action Tuesday for the first time since that HBP, entering in the ninth inning to play third base with the Dodgers up 15-1 and Miguel Rojas, who started at the hot corner, mopping up on the mound. Though Muncy didn't swing a bat, he did cleanly handle a grounder to third base and made the throw to first to record an out. The defensive appearance further buoys the belief that Muncy isn't going to need a stint on the IL, and he could in fact be back in the Dodgers' lineup as soon as Wednesday for the series finale.

The Blue Jays transferred Berrios (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

The transaction clears space on the 40-man roster for Connor Seabold, who was acquired via trade with Detroit. Berrios is out for the rest of this season and a big chunk of 2027 after having Tommy John surgery last week.

Marsh (finger) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The Phillies will unsurprisingly keep Marsh on the bench for the series finale Wednesday after the outfielder exited Tuesday's 4-3 win in the fourth inning due to a right middle finger sprain, an injury he initially suffered while diving back to first base on a pickoff attempt in the top of the first. Per Paul Casella of MLB.com, Marsh said he plans to wear mitts on both of his hands as a baserunner to guard against future injuries while sliding, but at this point, the Phillies are viewing his sprained finger as a day-to-day concern and not something that will keep him out of the lineup for long. Philadelphia is off Thursday, so Marsh could be ready to start when the team opens up a three-game series with the Dodgers on Friday.
