Norby is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Norby will get a breather after he had started in each of the last 13 games while slashing .271/.375/.354 with one home run, one double, seven walks, nine RBI and eight runs during that stretch. Vimael Machin will get the nod at third base in his stead Sunday, but Norby should have a clear path to an everyday role while Kyle Karros (concussion) and Willi Castro (foot) remain on the shelf.

The Cardinals optioned Rincon to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.

He'll give up his spot on the 28-man active roster to left-hander Cooper Hjerpe, who is expected to pitch behind starter Kyle Leahy in Sunday's game against the Rockies. After getting his first big-league call-up Sept. 1, Rincon appeared in two games out of the St. Louis bullpen and surrendered seven earned runs on five hits and one walk over 1.1 innings.

Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Fermin is on the bench for a third straight game and looks like he'll be ticketed for a short-side platoon role in the St. Louis infield. The Cardinals have been prioritizing Bryan Torres, Thomas Saggese and Nolan Gorman ahead of Fermin against right-handed pitching while all of Masyn Winn (thumb), JJ Wetherholt (wrist) and Blaze Jordan (ankle) are on the injured list.

Perdomo was removed from Sunday's game against the Astros after being struck in the head by a line drive, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

After Perdomo started the top of the third inning with a single, teammate Ketel Marte hit a 93-mph liner that Perdomo was unable to avoid. The 26-year-old shortstop was called out for runner's interference and was able to leave the field under his own power, but he was replaced defensively for the bottom half of the frame. Perdomo was diagnosed with a head contusion and will continue to be evaluated.

Torres will start at second base and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Torres will set the table for the Cardinals for the fifth time in seven contests after going 3-for-9 with three walks, two runs and an RBI in his prior four starts. He appears primed to handle a strong-side platoon role for the Cardinals while three key infielders (JJ Wetherholt, Masyn Winn and Blaze Jordan) are all on the injured list.

Veen is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Veen has gone 4-for-22 (.182 average) with 12 strikeouts in his past 14 contests and will take a seat Sunday for the fourth time in the past seven games. Jake McCarthy, Cole Carrigg and Troy Johnston will start from left to right in the outfield Sunday while Mickey Moniak serves as the designated hitter.

Wenninger walked three batters in his most recent start Friday, a four-inning effort in which he also struck out five while allowing two runs against Rochester. For the season, Wenninger has a 4.24 ERA, 13.4 percent walk rate and 24.2 percent strikeout rate over 108.1 innings.

Wenninger at one point was thought to be on the short list for a potential promotion, but he's never quite gotten dialed in with his control, allowing two or more walks in every start since May 17. It's somewhat telling that even with September roster expansion, the Mets haven't given Wenninger a look yet.

Carter is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

The left-handed-hitting Carter will take a seat for the second time in the series while the Rays send another lefty starter (Ian Seymour) to the bump. Ezequiel Duran will spell Carter in center field and will bat leadoff.

Pederson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

The left-handed-hitting Pederson will take a seat for the second time in the series while the Rays send another lefty starter (Ian Seymour) to the bump. Logan O'Hoppe will enter the starting nine in place of Pederson as the Rangers' designated hitter.

Mullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.

After starting in each of the last four games, the left-handed-hitting Mullins will retreat to the bench while southpaw MacKenzie Gore toes the rubber for the Rangers. Jonny DeLuca will spell Mullins in center field and will bat sixth.
