  • Rays' Victor Mesa: Idle against lefty

Mesa is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

The left-handed hitter will hit the bench for the second time in the series, as the Nationals send southpaw Andrew Alvarez to the hill Sunday. Mesa could struggle to find consistent playing time versus righties as well, after the Rays brought Jonny DeLuca back from the injured list Friday. Despite logging just nine of his 55 plate appearances against same-handed pitching since his May 24 call-up from Triple-A Durham, Mesa is slashing a meager .174/.296/.304 with two home runs, sevens runs and five RBI.

  • Rays' Cedric Mullins: Exiting lineup vs. southpaw

Mullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

The left-handed-hitting Mullins will take a seat for the series finale while the Nationals send southpaw Andrew Alvarez to the bump. Jonny DeLuca will replace Mullins in center field and will bat second.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: On bench against southpaw

Palacios is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

With left-hander Andrew Alvarez on the bump for the Nationals, Palacios will give way to platoon mate Ben Williamson at second base in the series finale. Palacios has logged just 26 plate appearances versus lefties on the season, slashing .250/.308/.333 in those matchups.

  • Rays' Hunter Feduccia: Taking seat Sunday

Feduccia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

After drawing starts behind the plate the past three games while going 1-for-5 with a double, two walks and two runs, Feduccia will retreat to the bench for the series finale. Nick Fortes will receive the nod at catcher and bat eighth.

  • Zack Gelof 3B | ATH

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Back in action Sunday

Gelof (head) is starting at second base and batting leadoff Sunday against the Angels.

Gelof was held out of Saturday's starting nine after being hit by a pitch in the ear flap of his helmet Friday, but he'll rejoin the lineup after sitting out just one game. The 26-year-old will look to extend his 23-game hit streak, during which he's batting .348 (31-for-89) with six doubles, five homers, two steals, 12 RBI and 16 runs.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Receiving break Sunday

Langeliers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

Langeliers started the previous six contests but will hit the bench Sunday after going 4-for-25 (.160 average) with a double, a homer, four RBI and three runs. Jonah Heim will step in behind the plate for the series finale versus the Halos.

  • Padres' Miguel Andujar: Makes return from IL

The Padres reinstated Andujar (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.

San Diego designated Nick Solak for assignment to clear room for Andujar, who will be available off the bench for Sunday's series finale versus the Rangers. Andujar should eventually settle back into a near-everyday role after he had produced a .254/.288/.418 slash line with five home runs, two stolen bases, 17 RBI and 18 runs in 54 games prior to suffering a left hamstring strain June 13.

  • Jack Leiter SP | TEX

Rangers' Jack Leiter: Hits IL with ankle issue

The Rangers placed Leiter on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right ankle posterior impingement.

While Leiter hasn't been forced to miss any turns through the rotation as a result of the ankle injury, he's been pitching through the issue for most of the season, and his conditioned worsened when he slipped on the field during an April 22 start, per Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. Pitching through the ankle concern could be a factor in why the 26-year-old righty hasn't taken the step forward this season that both the Rangers and fantasy managers were counting on, as he's turned in a 5.29 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 80 innings over his first 15 starts. Texas recalled Jose Corniell from Triple-A Round Rock to take over Leiter's spot on the 26-man active roster, but it's not immediately clear who will replace Leiter in the rotation.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Guardians' Rhys Hoskins: On bench Sunday

Hoskins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Hoskins started the previous nine games and will receive a day off after batting .111 (4-for-36) with two doubles, a homer and 15 strikeouts during that stretch. Despite that poor form, the veteran slugger seems likely to see his fair share of opportunities while Chase DeLauter (ribs), Angel Martinez (foot) and Jose Ramirez (hand) are all on the IL.

  • Ernie Clement 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Overcomes hip injury

Clement (hip) had been slated to start at shortstop and bat sixth Sunday against the Cubs before the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Chicago.

Clement was held out of the starting nine the previous two games due to left hip soreness, but the injury doesn't look as though it will be a concern for the infielder heading into a seven-game week. Clement made an appearance off the bench in Saturday's 8-6 win, playing three innings at shortstop while going 0-for-2.
