Manager John Schneider said Yesavage (knee) will throw his first bullpen Friday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

Yesavage has been throwing off flat ground, but he is about ready to take the next step in his recovery. When he has his bullpen session Friday, it will be about three weeks since he had surgery Aug. 11 to repair his torn meniscus. The right-hander is eyeing a return before the end of the season.

The Tigers recalled Brieske from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

The right-hander will get his first look in the majors since mid-July, when Detroit sent him to Triple-A Toledo. Brieske has made eight appearances in the big leagues this year and has surrendered seven earned runs with an 8:4 K:BB over 9.1 innings.

Varsho is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Varsho will take a seat Tuesday after posting a .678 OPS while starting the previous 11 contests. Taylor Trammell will shift to center field, which opens up left for LaMonte Wade.

Nelson (elbow) threw live batting practice Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Tuesday marks the first time Nelson has faced hitters since he landed on the injured list back in June with a strained right elbow. He threw 21 pitches during his first live session but is expected to be brought back as a reliever, so he won't need to spend time building up his workload. The 28-year-old righty said he is hopeful to begin pitching in rehab games soon, though the Diamondbacks haven't indicated when he might begin a minor-league assignment.

Hicks is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.

It's the third straight game against a southpaw starter that Hicks isn't starting, so he appears to be working in the strong side of a platoon at catcher. The 27-year-old has raked in 22 games since being acquired by the Rays at the trade deadline with three homers and a .947 OPS in 80 plate appearances. Nick Fortes is picking up another start behind the plate Tuesday versus New York lefty Sean Manaea.

Cronenworth is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Cronenworth started all 28 games in August for the Friars and will receive a day off after posting a .232/.295/.313 slash line during that span. Fernando Tatis is shifting to the keystone Tuesday, which opens up right field for Jase Bowen.

Bender (shin) resumed throwing off a mound Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Bender had been cleared to begin pitching in minor-league games but suffered a setback with his right shin during his first outing at Triple-A. After taking some time off to recover, the 31-year-old is now back to throwing bullpen sessions. He remains without an official return timeline, though a clearer picture may emerge once he resumes facing live hitters.

Fairbanks (hand) began throwing off a mound Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Fairbanks was shut down from throwing for a few days after receiving injections to treat the nerve issue in his right hand, but he's now been cleared to resume throwing off a mound following re-evaluation. A timeline for his return may become clearer once he gets a few more bullpen sessions in. In the meantime, Calvin Faucher and Michael Petersen figure to be the favorites for saves in Miami.

The Giants have Ramos on the taxi squad Tuesday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Ramos is in Pittsburgh on Tuesday as rosters expand in September. The Giants recalled and selected Zach Morgan and Cesar Perdomo, respectively, Tuesday. San Francisco also transferred Adrian Houser (forearm) to the 60-day injured list. Since returning to Triple-A Sacramento at the beginning of July, Ramos has a 4.76 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP through 22.2 innings across 13 games.

Aranda is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.

Aranda started the previous nine games and will receive a day off after batting .206 (7-for-34) with two homers during that span. Ryan Vilade will pick up a start at first base against Mets lefty Sean Manaea on Tuesday.
