Abbott (5-6) allowed one unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings to take the loss versus the Mariners on Monday.

Abbott was almost as sharp as opposing starter George Kirby for the first six innings, but the Reds' bullpen buckled as soon as the southpaw exited. This was Abbott's second quality start in four outings in July, and he's allowed a total of 10 runs (nine earned) over 21 innings this month. He's at a 3.89 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 90:50 K:BB through 111 innings on the season. He's projected to make his next start at St. Louis.

Carpenter has been playing through a bruised heel over the last few games, and he was removed from Monday's game against the Cubs after appearing to be in some discomfort, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Carpenter reached base on an error in the 10th inning, and after he appeared to be experiencing some discomfort, the Tigers elected to pinch run for him. It's encouraging that 28-year-old has been able to push through the injury over the last few days, but his status will be worth keeping an eye on heading into Tuesday's clash.

Cosgrove picked up the save Monday against Colorado. He did not record a strikeout over two perfect innings.

Cosgrove entered with a three-run cushion in the eighth inning and fired off two perfect frames for his first save of the season, with Washington pushing its lead to four runs in the ninth.Since having his contract selected July 10, the southpaw has logged 4.2 scoreless innings with a 4:1 K:BB across four appearances. In a shaky Nationals bullpen, Cosgrove could continue to earn high-leverage opportunities if he maintains this strong form.

Robles went 4-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Monday's 8-0 win over the Reds.

Robles had gone just 4-for-27 over his first 13 games in July before doubling his hit total for the month with this performance. All of his knocks Monday were singles. Robles remains in a short-side platoon role for now, though his best chance at playing time would come be challenging the struggling Luke Raley. Robles is batting .240 with a .555 OPS, no home runs, five RBI, 10 runs scored, three doubles and seven stolen bases over 113 plate appearances this season.

Raleigh went 1-for-5 with a grand slam and a fifth RBI in Monday's 8-0 win over the Reds.

Raleigh put a big bow on the Mariners' seventh-inning rally, and he knocked in another run in the eighth. The catcher had come out of the All-Star break cold, going 0-for-10 during the Mariners' three-game series versus the Giants over the weekend. He's still batting just .163 with a .573 OPS, 10 homers, 34 RBI, 24 runs scored, seven doubles and two stolen bases over 69 contests this year.

Kirby (8-8) allowed three hits and a walk while striking out six over six shutout innings to earn the win over the Reds on Monday.

Kirby kept his hot stretch going, racking up his sixth straight quality start with one of his best outings of the campaign. During that six-start span, he's given up just 12 runs (11 earned) over 38 innings. He now has a 3.57 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 104:25 K:BB through 116 innings over 19 starts this season. Kirby is lined up to make his next start on the road versus the Rangers.

Steer was sent for X-rays following Monday's game against the Mariners after being struck by a pitch in the ribs, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Steer managed to remain in the game after being drilled in the top of the seventh inning, but the team is proceeding with caution by sending him for imaging. Manager Terry Francona said Cincinnati's medical staff has yet to find anything concerning after an initial evaluation, but "the docs are still looking at him," per C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic. Steer can be considered day-to-day for the time being.

Freeland (2-9) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings against the Nationals. He struck out four.

Freeland was tagged early, surrendering a three-run homer to Andres Chaparro before recording an out in the first inning. The southpaw was able to grind through six innings, though he couldn't avoid being charged with his ninth loss of the season. Freeland has allowed multiple runs in each of his past 15 starts dating back to April. The veteran hurler will take a 7.28 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 83:20 K:BB across 94 innings (18 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Brewers.

The Mariners pulled Rodriguez from Monday's game against the Reds as a precaution, Tim Booth of The Seattle Times reports.

Manager Dan Wilson stated after the game that the team isn't overly concerned about a potential strain, but Wilson did want to get Rodriguez out of the game after he was hit by the throw from shortstop. The star center fielder can be considered day-to-day leading up to the second game of the series Tuesday.

Alvarez did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 4.1 innings against Colorado. He struck out two.

The southpaw ran into trouble in the third inning, loading the bases before Willi Castro cleared them with a double. Alvarez has been a steady part of Washington's rotation since the end of May, operating as both a starter and bulk reliever, but he has completed five-plus innings just once. Across 14 appearances spanning 53.1 innings, the 27-year-old owns a 2-3 record with a 4.22 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 55:25 K:BB this season. He's tentatively lined up to pitch Sunday against Arizona.
