    Kyle Wright: Enters free-agent market

Wright elected to become a free agent Friday.

Wright cleared waivers after being removed from the Royals' 40-man roster earlier this week, and he's decided to exercise his right to free agency. The right-hander didn't pitch at all in 2024 after undergoing right shoulder surgery and made only eight rehab starts in 2025 due to a strained oblique. Wright is healthy now but faces an uncertain free-agent market.

  • Sam Long RP | KC

Sam Long: Opts for free agency

Long elected to become a free agent Friday.

The Royals booted Long off their 40-man roster and he has decided to test out free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment to the minors. Long pitched well for Kansas City in 2024 but struggled in 2025, posting a 5.36 ERA and 33:22 K:BB over 40.1 innings.

  • Austin Pope P | ARI

Austin Pope: Opts for free agency

Pope was sent outright to Triple-A Reno and elected free agency Thursday.

Pope was removed from Arizona's 40-man roster Thursday and opted for free agency rather than accept an assignment to Reno. He made his big-league debut with two scoreless frames late in 2025 after posting a 4.71 ERA at Triple-A.

  • Ildemaro Vargas: Heads to free agency

    Vargas elected free agency Thursday.

Vargas recorded 121 plate appearances with the Diamondbacks in 2025 but lost his roster spot as the team had to move several players onto the 40-man roster. His defensive utility should help him land another contract for 2026, though he's hardly guaranteed to net a big-league deal.

  • Shawn Dubin RP | BAL

    Orioles' Shawn Dubin: Clears waivers

Dubin (elbow) cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Dubin ended the season on the injured list with elbow discomfort. It's unclear if he's healthy, but he'll now have the chance to elect to free agency if he doesn't want to accept the outright assignment.

  • Daniel Johnson CF | BAL

Daniel Johnson: Headed to free agency

Johnson elected free agency Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Johnson cleared waivers after losing his roster spot Wednesday and elected free agency rather than accepting an assignment to Triple-A Norfolk. He earned 57 major-league plate appearances between San Francisco and Baltimore in 2025, finishing with a .548 OPS.

  • Dylan Carlson LF | BAL

Dylan Carlson: Opts for free agency

Carlson elected free agency Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Carlson cleared waivers and opted for free agency rather than being assigned to Triple-A Norfolk after being outrighted by the Orioles. He struggled across 241 big-league plate appearances in 2025, hitting only .203/.278/.336.

  • Orioles' Carson Ragsdale: Bounced from 40-man roster

Ragsdale was designated for assignment Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Ragsdale made his big-league debut in September and gave up eight earned runs in five innings across two appearances with the Orioles. He's likely to stick in the organization as depth for the 2026 season.

  • Kenedy Corona CF | HOU

    Astros' Kenedy Corona: Clears waivers

Corona was outrighted to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Corona was placed on waivers Tuesday and went unclaimed. He's eligible to become a free agent, but could also stick around as organizational depth.

  • Brandon Walter RP | HOU

Astros' Brandon Walter: Added back to 40-man roster

Walter (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

This move is procedural as the Astros set their 40-man roster for the offseason. Walter is recovering from Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire 2026 season.
