Cooper was placed on the reserve/retired list Friday. Cooper's retirement from the NFL has become official, one day after he informed the Raiders of his plans to hang up his cleats. The 31-year-old wide receiver finishes his career with 10,033 regular-season receiving yards and 64 touchdowns in 10 years split between the Raiders, Cowboys, Browns and Bills.

Cooper announced Thursday that he does not intend to play for the Raiders this season and is instead retiring from the NFL, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Cooper signed with Las Vegas in late August and appeared primed to immediately operate as a key pass catcher for the team, but the veteran wideout has instead decided to hang up the cleats just ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Patriots. In the wake of Cooper's retirement, Tre Tucker, Dont'e Thornton and Jack Bech are positioned for increasingly key roles behind No. 1 wideout Jakobi Meyers, with TE Brock Bowers still the focal point of the Raiders' aerial attack. Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Cooper's abrupt retirement relates to difficulties he experienced ramping up after spending most of the offseason unsigned.

Cooper is signing a one-year deal with the Raiders, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. On the same day reports surfaced that Jakobi Meyers is seeking a trade, the Raiders move to bolster their wideout depth. Once Cooper is up to speed with the team's offense, he should have an immediate opportunity to make his mark in a pass-catching corps that otherwise features Meyers (for now, at least) and TE Brock Bowers. In six games with the Browns and eight with the Bills in 2024, the 31-year-old -- who the Raiders drafted fourth overall in 2015 -- combined to record a 44-547-4 line on 85 targets.
-
Cooper caught all four of his targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 32-29 loss to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. Cooper wasn't the difference-maker the Bills had hoped for after they gave up a third-round draft pick to acquire him from the Browns. The 30-year-old wide receiver proceeded to catch 20 of 32 targets for 297 yards and two touchdowns in eight regular-season games for Buffalo and added only six catches for 41 yards on eight targets across three playoff outings. Cooper's best days appear to be behind him, but with seven 1,000-yard receiving seasons under his belt, the unrestricted free agent is likely to draw some interest on the open market.
-
Cooper didn't catch his only target in Sunday's 27-25 AFC divisional-round win over the Ravens. Cooper has just eight yards through two playoff games, as the veteran wide receiver has failed to step up in the postseason. Josh Allen threw for only 127 yards as the Bills rode three rushing touchdowns and a 3-0 edge in the turnover battle to a berth in the AFC Championship Game, but Cooper could be more involved in Kansas City if Buffalo's forced into a more pass-heavy game plan.
