  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

Giants' Daniel Jones: Not practicing, not yet out Week 6

Giants head coach Joe Judge said Jones (concussion) won't practice Wednesday, but the quarterback is "on track with everything" in his recovery from the brain injury and hasn't yet been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Jones isn't believed to have an extensive history of concussions, but the one he suffered in last week's loss to the Cowboys looked fairly serious, as he struggled to get back on his feet after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit before being ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Though Judge was unwilling to dismiss the possibility of Jones clearing the five-step protocol before the weekend, the 24-year-old will likely need to make enough progress in his recovery to join his teammates for practice in some capacity Thursday or Friday to have a legitimate shot at playing. On a positive note, Jones was at least in attendance for Wednesday's session in an observational role, with Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record noting that the signal-caller was donning a helmet and full pads while doing some throwing off to the side. Meanwhile, Mike Glennon is taking reps with the first-team offense Wednesday and would be in line to start if Jones is ruled out for Week 6.

  • Tua Tagovailoa QB | ATL

Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Cleared to practice

The Dolphins have designated Tagovailoa (ribs) to return from injured reserve, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

The transaction gives the Dolphins a 21-day window during which the team can evaluate Tagovailoa for a return to the 53-man roster, but he likely won't need the full length of time before being activated. Per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, head coach Brian Flores said that Tagovailoa was able to do some throwing Monday, and the quarterback now appears set to take part in the Dolphins' first Week 6 practice Wednesday in at least some capacity. If Tagovailoa checks out well during practices over the next few days, he could take back starting quarterback duties from Jacoby Brissett in Sunday's game against the Jaguars in London.

  • Lamar Jackson QB | BAL

Ravens' Lamar Jackson: Record-setting comeback victory

Jackson completed 37 of 43 passes for 442 yards and four touchdowns and rushed 14 times for 62 yards but lost a fumble during Monday night's 31-25 overtime victory over the Colts. He also threw a pair of successful two-point conversions.

Jackson actually got off to a slow start and misfired on a passing touchdown just before halftime. He then had a seemingly costly fumble near the Colts goal line on Baltimore's opening drive of the second half, but Jackson rallied in spectacular fashion. He found Marquise Brown for a 43-yard touchdown on the next series, then had consecutive scores and two-point conversions to tight end Mark Andrews to overcome a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit and force overtime. From there, Jackson finished the job by finding Brown on a five-yard, game-winning touchdown, helping him pass for not only a career high in yardage but also a Ravens franchise record in the category. With his usual dynamic running from the pocket as well, it turned out to be sensational showing from Jackson, who'll next face the Chargers in a tough Week 6 matchup.

  • 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: Better odds to start Week 7

Garoppolo (calf) may have a clearer path to reclaiming the starting job after the 49ers' Week 6 bye with Trey Lance having sprained his left knee during Sunday's 17-10 loss in Arizona, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.

Lance's injury is believed to be nothing more than a 1-2 week issue, but he'll be examined again at the end of this week. Meanwhile, Garoppolo continues to recover from a bruised calf suffered Week 5, which allowed the rookie to direct the offense in each of the 49ers' last six quarters. There was already an expectation Garoppolo would regain his status as San Francisco's No. 1 quarterback when he's back to 100 percent, but if Lance isn't cleared for action in Week 7 and the veteran is, coach Kyle Shanahan can temporarily avoid any talk of a job battle or QB controversy. If neither Garoppolo nor Lance gain clearance, though, Nate Sudfeld could be tasked with a spot start.

  • Russell Wilson QB | NYG

Seahawks' Russell Wilson: No timetable to return

Wilson has no timeline for a return following surgery Friday on a ruptured tendon in the middle finger of his throwing hand, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.

Previous reports on Wilson's recovery timetable have wavered from as few as four weeks to as many as eight. An IR stint thus would seem to be in the offing, but coach Pete Carroll said during a media session Monday, "We'll see," when asked if such a transaction would take place. In any case, the Seahawks have a Week 9 bye, so if Wilson is able to make quick progress there seems to be potential for him to return Week 10 at Green Bay. While Wilson is in recovery mode, Seattle will turn to Geno Smith under center, with Jake Luton likely to be elevated from the practice squad as the No. 2.

  • Trey Lance QB | LAC

49ers' Trey Lance: Picks up sprained knee

Lance suffered a left knee sprain during Sunday's 17-10 loss at Arizona, leaving his status for the 49ers' next game Oct. 24 against the Colts in question, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.

The 49ers enter their Week 6 bye with clouds hanging over both quarterbacks on their active roster. Jimmy Garoppolo missed the past game and a half due to a calf contusion, but the team expects him to retake the reins of the offense as soon as he's healthy. Meanwhile, Lance -- the third overall pick in the 2021 draft -- completed 24 of 47 passes for 349 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and recorded 23 carries for 130 yards over the last two games. Coach Kyle Shanahan told Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site that Lance's injury "should be a 1-to-2 week thing. But possibly just one." Lance is expected to be evaluated again at the end of this week, but as Shanahan mentioned the 49ers are optimistic he'll be available Week 7. Whether or not Lance gets another start, however, remains to be seen.

  • Marcus Mariota QB | WAS

Raiders' Marcus Mariota: Nearing return to practice

Coach Jon Gruden believes Mariota (quadriceps) will return to practice this week, Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Mariota has spent the first five weeks of the season on injured reserve with the quadriceps issue, but he's apparently close to receiving the return designation and taking the practice field. It remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old is back in time to suit up for Sunday's matchup with the Broncos, but he appears to be in the final stages of his recovery.

  • Jeff Driskel QB | WAS

Jeff Driskel: Moved back to practice squad

Driskel reverted back to the Texans' practice squad Monday, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Driskel was elevated for Sunday's contest against the Patriots to act as the backup behind Davis Mills. The 28-year-old has yet to take a snap this season, but he could earn a contract if Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) remains out for an extended period, though Taylor could be back within the next few games.

  • Nate Sudfeld QB | SF

Nate Sudfeld: Reverts to practice squad

Sudfeld reverted to the 49ers' practice squad following Sunday's loss to the Cardinals, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

The 28-year-old didn't appear in Sunday's Week 5 matchup while working behind Trey Lance. If Jimmy Garoppolo (calf) is cleared to return after the 49ers' bye week, Sudfeld will likely remain on the practice squad.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Team not concerned about knee

Bears head coach Matt Nagy said Fields underwent tests on the hyperextended left knee he suffered in Sunday's win over the Raiders, with the scans revealing nothing of major concern, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Chicago could look to limit Fields' practice reps early in the week for maintenance purposes, but the rookie signal-caller should be good to go for the Bears' next game Oct. 17 against the Packers. After suffering the injury in the second quarter Sunday, Fields missed only two plays and finished the day with 12 completions on 20 attempts for 111 yards and his first career touchdown pass.
