  • Davis Mills QB | HOU

Texans' Davis Mills: Will have reins loosened Week 4

The Texans plan to open up the offense for Mills in his second start Sunday against the Bills, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Mills made his first NFL start Week 3 against the Panthers on just three days' preparation. As such, the coaching staff placed limitations on the rookie quarterback. Houston head coach David Culley believes the staff went too far in trying to protect Mills, who threw for 168 yards and a touchdown without turning the ball over. The Texans may want to open up the offense, but they may have no choice against Buffalo, which averages 31.3 points per game. In whatever shape the game takes, it would be helpful if Mills has a competent running game. Houston has averaged just 2.8 yards per carry the last two weeks.

  • Jake Luton QB | LV

    Jake Luton: Waived by Seattle

The Seahawks waived Luton on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Luton was waived by Jacksonville ahead of the initial 53-man roster deadline, but he was quickly scooped up by Seahawks. He spent the first three weeks of the season on Seattle's practice squad, but the 2020 sixth-round pick will have to find an opportunity to develop elsewhere.

  • Brett Rypien QB | HOU

Broncos' Brett Rypien: Joins active roster

The Broncos signed Rypien to their 53-man roster Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of Denver's official site reports.

Rypien appeared in three games for the Broncos last season and won his only start. When Teddy Bridgewater was acquired in the offseason, it was almost a foregone conclusion that Rypien wouldn't earn a spot on the initial 53-man roster. He signed with Denver's practice squad to start the season, but he has been called up to the active roster to avoid another team signing him.

  • Jalen Hurts QB | PHI

Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Struggles despite yardage

Hurts completed 25 of 39 passes for 326 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Monday night's 41-21 loss to the Cowboys. He also rushed nine times for 35 yards.

Hurts' first play was a 38-yard connection with Dallas Goedert, but the quarterback was promptly intercepted on an attempted deep ball afterward. The Eagles and their starting signal-caller struggled to move the ball following that turnover, punting four straight times to end the first half. To begin the second, Hurts saw rookie wideout DeVonta Smith slip while getting out of his break on a target near the sideline, allowing Trevon Diggs to intercept him and run 59 yards for a touchdown. With the score already lopsided at that point, Hurts at least racked up yardage while being forced to pass for the remainder of the contest, picking up a pair of touchdown passes along the way. He again offered value on the ground, but overall Hurts' performance was much less flattering than his yardage suggests. He'll strive for an improved effort in Week 4 versus Kansas City.

  • Dak Prescott QB | DAL

Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Throws three TDs in rout

Prescott completed 21 of 26 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns in Monday night's 41-21 win over the Eagles. He also rushed nine times for six yards and lost a fumble.

Prescott started by narrowly missing out on a 45-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb, who was pulled down at the one-yard line before Ezekiel Elliott capped the Cowboys' opening drive with a touchdown rush. The signal-caller then faced pressure in his own end zone on Dallas' next series, causing the ball to slip out of his throwing hand for a fumble that was immediately recovered for a Philadelphia touchdown. Prescott endured further frustration after Elliott had a touchdown catch reversed and brought back to the one-yard line on the next drive, which ended after the quarterback was ruled to have been stuffed on a subsequent fourth-down sneak attempt after video review. Amid all those near-misses, however, Prescott was still highly efficient as a passer and ultimately finished with a trio of passing touchdowns, finding tight end Dalton Schultz twice and wideout Cedrick Wilson on a two-yard play on fourth down for his other. Overall, that made for a strong showing for Prescott, who now boasts six touchdowns versus two interceptions and has completed over 75 percent of his passes through three games. After returning from last year's ankle injury, he should have high confidence in his play in Week 4's matchup against an improved Panthers defense.

  • Eagles' Gardner Minshew: Sitting again Week 3

Minshew (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday's game against the Cowboys.

Minshew will be a healthy scratch for the third straight game to open the season. Jalen Hurts will receive another start with Joe Flacco as Philadelphia's backup quarterback Monday.

  • Trey Lance QB | LAC

49ers' Trey Lance: Scores rushing TD

Lance scored a one-yard touchdown on his only carry in Sunday's 30-28 loss to Green Bay.

Lance technically was on the field for three offensive snaps (four percent), but he only logged the one offensive touch after his pass attempt was called back due to a penalty. Jimmy Garoppolo struggled noticeably for the first time this season, but he salvaged his performance with a strong second half. If the veteran starter continues to show cracks as the season progresses, Lance may find himself taking over sooner than expected. For now, the rookie signal-caller should only be expected to enter Week 4's contest against Seattle sporadically at best.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Not guaranteed starting job

Fields (hand) isn't guaranteed the starting job for Sunday's game against the Lions, Kimberley A. Martin of ESPN reports.

Fields drew his first career start against the Browns in Week 3, but he completed just six of 20 passes for 68 yards and hurt his hand late in the contest. Although X-rays came back negative following Sunday's game, coach Matt Nagy said Monday that the Bears "are working through" who will start under center Week 4, indicating that all three of the team's quarterbacks are in consideration for the start. Andy Dalton (knee) still is considered week-to-week, while Nick Foles is healthy and in the mix to start if Fields and Dalton are still banged up Sunday.

  • Andy Dalton QB | PHI

Bears' Andy Dalton: Still considered week-to-week

Coach Matt Nagy said Monday that Dalton (knee) is considered week-to-week, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.

Dalton was held out of Sunday's Week 3 loss to the Browns due to a bone bruise in his left knee, and he isn't expected to miss significant time. However, he still could be sidelined for multiple games. A better idea of the 33-year-old's status for the team's Week 4 matchup against the Cowboys should come into focus based on his status in practice this week. Although Justin Fields (hand) started against Cleveland, Nagy said Monday that the Bears "are working through" who will start at quarterback Week 4, according to Kimberley A. Martin of ESPN.

  • Justin Herbert QB | LAC

Chargers' Justin Herbert: Hurts hand in heroic win

Herbert had his throwing hand wrapped and iced before he left Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, but he's expected to be okay, NFL.com reports.

Herbert played every snap in Sunday's 30-24 win over Kansas City, including a four-yard, game-winning TD pass to Mike Williams on the final play of the afternoon for the Chargers offense. Williams' fifth-year breakout has aided the second-year QB's average of 318.7 passing yards per game, though Herbert has perhaps been a bit disappointing in fantasy due to turnovers (four) and a lack of rushing production (27 yards, zero TDs). In any case, he'll have an extra day to recover from his hand injury before the Chargers host the Raiders on Monday in Week 4.
