  • Marcus Mariota QB | WAS

Raiders' Marcus Mariota: Doesn't see action Saturday

Mariota (leg) was in uniform but did not see any action in the Raiders' 20-7 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday night.

The veteran signal-caller was ultimately given the night off despite warming up before the game. Mariota saw Nathan Peterman go the whole way for the Raiders under center, but the latter is still likely to open the season as the No. 3 quarterback behind him.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Plays one drive Saturday

Mahomes completed one of two passes for four yards in Saturday's 19-16 preseason win over the 49ers.

Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce for a four-yard gain on the first drive, but his second and final pass of the night was dropped by Mecole Hardman. Most importantly, Mahomes and the rest of the starters left the exhibition game healthy. He likely won't play much more this preseason as he gears up for his fourth year as the Chiefs' starting quarterback. Last season, the Texas Tech product completed 66 percent of his passes for 4,740 yards, 38 touchdowns and six interceptions, and he added 308 yards and two scores on the ground.

  • 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: Completes all three passes

Garoppolo completed all three of his passes for 26 yards in Saturday's 19-16 preseason loss to the Chiefs.

Garoppolo started Saturday's preseason opener and played just one drive, connecting on three short passes before putting on the headset and watching Trey Lance -- the No. 3 overall pick -- and Josh Rosen finish the game under center. Lance had the play of the night with an 80-yard touchdown throw to Trent Sherfield on his second possession; however, the rookie completed just five of 14 passes for 128 yards and a score. Garoppolo seemingly still has the starting job for now, but his leash is short, and a strong end to the preseason by Lance will only increase the pressure.

  • Vikings' Jake Browning: Struggles in preseason debut

Browning went 5-for-10 for 31 yards and an interception that was returned for a touchdown in Saturday's preseason loss to Denver.

Browning had drawn praise in camp, but he struggled Saturday by making a poor throw on a pick-six and struggling with his accuracy. It looked like he had a shot to overtake Kellen Mond for the backup quarterback job, but this outing likely sets him back significantly in the competition.

  • Trey Lance QB | LAC

49ers' Trey Lance: Throws 80-yard TD in debut

Lance completed five of 14 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 19-16 preseason loss to the Chiefs. He was also sacked four times for a loss of 31 yards.

Jimmy Garoppolo started for the 49ers and completed all three of his passes for 26 yards, but Lance took the field on the second series and played into the third quarter. The No. 3 overall pick went three-and-out on his first drive of the game, taking a sack and tossing an incompletion in the process. He flashed his potential on the next possession by faking a handoff, rolling out to the left and connecting on a deep pass down the right sideline to Trent Sherfield, who took it to the house for an 80-yard score. Lance only completed one other pass that gained more than 10 yards, and his 35.7 completion percentage and four sacks are an eyesore. However, he was expected to be a bit raw. After all, Lance played just one college game last year, and he turned 21 years old in May. We expect him to get involved as a runner at some point, too, as he ran for 1,100 yards over 16 games as a sophomore at North Dakota State. Lance has two more preseason games to get comfortable at the NFL level and make his case for the starting job.

  • Jaguars' Gardner Minshew: Follows Lawrence

Minshew completed four of his eight passes for 47 yards and one interception in Saturday's preseason game against Cleveland.

Minshew entered the game for the Jaguars' fourth offensive series, following Trevor Lawrence into the contest. He largely worked near the line of scrimmage and the majority of his production came from Tavon Austin's work after the catch. Despite the team insisting that there is an open competition at quarterback, Minshew is almost certain to begin the season behind Lawrence on the depth chart.

  • Jordan Love QB | GB

Packers' Jordan Love: 'Dings' shoulder in debut

Head coach Matt LaFleur, via Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, said after Saturday's preseason opener that Love was removed from the contest early after getting "dinged" on a strip sack near the end of the first half. Love, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, said his throwing shoulder was hit and it feels "a little strain-ish" but he's "feeling good now."

LaFleur was planning to let Love play three quarters in Saturday's contest, but the injury brought an early end to his night, as he did not take the field after halftime. Love held his own while he was on it, though, and although the bulk of his production came on one drive, he did finish his first appearance as a pro 12-of-17 for 122 yards and a touchdown. He figures to see plenty of preseason action with starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers unlikely to suit up, but the injury leaves his status uncertain for the time being. According to LaFleur, another update on Love's status will be provided Sunday.

  • Zach Wilson QB | NO

Jets' Zach Wilson: Moves ball well in debut

Wilson completed six of nine passes for 63 yards in Saturday's 12-7 preseason win over the Giants.

Wilson's first career possession at the NFL level ended with a field goal, and all four of his throws on the drive went to Corey Davis, who caught two of those for 18 yards. He also led the offense into Giants territory on his second and final drive, which ended with Ty Johnson getting stuffed on 4th-and-1. The rookie second overall pick's debut performance is cause for cautious optimism, especially since camp standout Elijah Moore (quadriceps) was missing from Wilson's receiving corps. Wilson will look to pick up his first NFL touchdown against the Packers in Week 2 of the preseason.

  • Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Efficient in preseason opener

Lawrence completed six of his nine attempts for 71 yards in Saturday's preseason game against Cleveland.

Lawrence drew the start and was sacked and fumbled on his first play from scrimmage. He did recover from there, completing passes to a number of starting wideouts, including Marvin Jones and Laviska Shenault, on the opening drive. Lawrence's best throw came at the close of the first quarter when he connected down the field with Jones for a 35-yard pass. Though there has been no official announcement from the team, it is presumed that Lawrence will be under center when the Jaguars kick off the regular season against the Texans.

  • Trace McSorley QB | WAS

Ravens' Trace McSorley: Bothered by back spasms

McSorley was bothered by back spasms in Saturday's preseason opener against the Saints, Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Sun reports. He completed 11 of 18 passes for 86 yards and an interception while adding 25 yards on four carries prior to being replaced by Tyler Huntley.

McSorley got the start with Lamar Jackson getting the night off. He failed to lead the offense to a first-half touchdown but the Ravens managed three field goals during McSorley's time in the game. Huntley came in at halftime and led the game-winning touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. McSorley will look to heal up in time to face the Panthers in Week 2 of preseason.
