  • Cooper Rush QB | BAL

Cowboys' Cooper Rush: Picks up shoulder injury

Rush missed Saturday's joint practice with the Rams due to a shoulder injury, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.

With Dak Prescott (shoulder) not in attendance for Thursday's Hall of Fame Game, Rush was the second Cowboys quarterback on the field after backup Garrett Gilbert and ahead of fellow reserve Ben DiNucci. Rush completed eight of 13 passes for 70 yards, but he apparently came out the other side with a health concern. He'll aim to get healthy for the team's next preseason game Friday in Arizona.

  • Joe Burrow QB | CIN

Bengals' Joe Burrow: No go for preseason opener

Burrow (knee) will not play in the preseason opener next week, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports.

This shouldn't be a surprise whatsoever given the team's cautious nature regarding its franchise quarterback. Burrow has struggled through the first few days of training camp to gain any sort of confidence in his pocket awareness, a seemingly natural progression in his return from a torn ACL and MCL. A lack of confidence in his knee, and his offensive line, could have disastrous effects in live-game action, so it's hard to see the team trotting out the 2020 No. 1 overall selection unless the Bengals were completely certain Burrow's mental hiccups were a thing of the past.

  • Lamar Jackson QB | BAL

Ravens' Lamar Jackson: Returns to practice

Jackson participated in Saturday's practice one day after being cleared from the reserve/COVID-19 list, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

What's more, Jackson has received glowing remarks in his first full day of training camp since it began. The star quarterback is one of the top fantasy options at his position in large part due to his mobility. Jackson should be poised for another year close to 1,000 rushing yards so long as he stays healthy.

  • Kyle Allen QB | BUF

Football Team's Kyle Allen: Return to field imminent

Coach Ron Rivera said Friday that expects Allen (ankle) to return to the practice field soon, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Washington held Friday's session at FedExField, during which Allen was seen throwing passes with fellow reserve quarterback Steven Montez. Allen sustained a season-ending dislocation of his left ankle in November that required a procedure. He tweaked the surgically repaired ankle last Saturday and has been sidelined in the meantime. The Football Team is holding a "QB competition" between graybeard Ryan Fitzpatrick and Taylor Heinicke for the starting job, leaving Allen and Montez to vie for depth chart slotting, assuming Rivera decides to roster three signal-callers in the regular season.

  • Davis Mills QB | HOU

Texans' Davis Mills: Throwing picks with regularity

Mills has turned the ball over on most days during sessions and looks slow to process the more competitive periods of practice, according to Aaron Reiss of The Athletic.

Mills began Thursday's session with a sack to begin a drive, then ended it with interception. It should not shock followers that a mid-round quarterback is making ugly plays in camp, but the important thing is if Mills can learn from his mistakes. "As elementary as it sounds, (the key is) not making the same mistake twice," offensive coordinator Tim Kelly said of coaching rookie quarterbacks. "For us as coaches, when we can get that from our players, it shows that they're coachable." The Texans are not expecting Mills to be a starter anytime soon -- that's the job of Tyrod Taylor -- but they will want to evaluate him at some point during the regular season. The organization needs to determine if he's the quarterback of the future, or if they need to expend a first-round pick next season on that player.

  • John Wolford QB | MIN

    Rams' John Wolford: Undergoes appendectomy

Wolford had an appendectomy Friday and will be sidelined for 10-14 days, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.

Wolford woke up with discomfort Friday morning and underwent surgery once its nature was determined. Based off his return timetable, he won't get any preseason action until Saturday, Aug. 21, at the earliest. It's more likely that if he does, though, it'll happen in the Rams' exhibition finale Saturday, Aug. 28 at Denver. When healthy, Wolford serves as L.A.'s No. 2 QB behind Matthew Stafford, but his absence will allow Bryce Perkins and Devlin Hodges to get more reps with the reserves.

  • Trey Lance QB | LAC

49ers' Trey Lance: Prepped for special role?

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Lance will get playing time as a rookie, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. "He's going to play for us this year," Shanahan said.

Shanahan also has made multiple comments about Jimmy Garoppolo being the starter, so he's likely referring to a situational role for Lance, though there's obviously also a chance the rookie makes starts at some point. For the immediate future, Lance could give the Niners an advantage in short-yardage and/or red-zone situations, considering Garoppolo is one of the least mobile starting QBs in the league. Lance wasn't timed in a 40-yard dash during the predraft process, but he did run for 1,100 yard and 14 TDs in his one full season (2019) at North Dakota State.

  • Lamar Jackson QB | BAL

Ravens' Lamar Jackson: Cleared from COVID-19 list

Jackson has been activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list and should return to practice Saturday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.

Ravens training camp isn't off to the best start, with the starting quarterback missing the first week and a half while his favorite wide receiver from last season (Marquise Brown) has been out with a hamstring injury. Jackson's return to practice will be welcome news in Baltimore, where Trace McSorley and Tyler Huntley have been taking first-team QB reps. In addition to Brown's hamstring injury, the O-line is a bit banged up, but Jackson will have some healthy pass catchers in TE Mark Andrews, RB J.K. Dobbins and WRs Sammy Watkins and Rashod Bateman.

  • Josh Allen QB | BUF

Bills' Josh Allen: Inks six-year extension

The Bills and Allen agreed Friday on a six-year contract extension, which runs through the 2028 season. The deal is reportedly worth $258 million.

Losing Allen was never really going to be an option, but the team also didn't want to have the franchise quarterback in limbo and no one was going to negotiate if the season got started and Allen didn't have an extension. Now that this is out of the way, Allen can continue to focus on getting the Bills over the hump following last season's AFC Championship Game appearance. He'll be one of the first three quarterbacks off the board in almost any fantasy format.

  • Joshua Dobbs QB | NE

Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Throws late touchdown

Dobbs completed four of six passes for 37 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers' 16-3 preseason win over the Cowboys in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.

Dobbs entered the game in the fourth quarter behind Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins. Although the 2017 fourth-rounder saw the least work of the trio, he was the only quarterback to pass for a touchdown in the contest. Rudolph and Haskins remain the favorites to land a spot on Pittsburgh's 53-man roster in 2021, but Dobbs kept himself in contention with his effective performance in a limited sample Thursday.
