Mahomes will have surgery Wednesday to repair a torn plantar plate in his left foot, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Mahomes apparently had a severe case of turf toe, though he claimed he was approaching full strength the week before the Super Bowl. He limped through parts of Kansas City's three playoff games, often escaping pressure despite being unable to run at full speed. Mahomes isn't likely to participate in offseason practices if the Chiefs have them, but the team does expect him to be ready for Week 1 of the 2021 campaign. Foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson will perform the surgery Wednesday.

Mahomes completed 26 of 49 passes for 270 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Kansas City's 31-9 loss to the Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. He also carried five times for 33 yards.

The first double-digit loss of Mahomes' career came with the context of Tampa Bay's pass rush feasting on an O-line without both starting tackles. He also battled a number of dropped passes, including two would-be touchdowns -- to Tyreek Hill and Darrel Williams -- the combination of which simply proved insurmountable. Mahomes also was hobbled by the turf toe injury he suffered during the divisional round against the Browns. Despite the lopsided loss to the Bucs Mahomes put together yet another outstanding campaign in 2020, compiling 4,740 passing yards, 38 touchdowns and six interceptions, in addition to 308 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. Nor, of course, can it be discounted that Mahomes has now led the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. With top offensive weapons Hill and Travis Kelce both returning next season, and his offensive line set to get back to full health, Mahomes once again will be in the mix as as the first quarterback off the board in fantasy drafts come 2021. He should be back to 100 percent for training camp, but his status for OTAs may be in question after Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported earlier Sunday that Mahomes will undergo offseason surgery to address the injured toe.

Prescott underwent a second ankle surgery in December but is expected to be ready for training camp in late July, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The second ankle surgery wasn't considered a setback. Instead, the procedure strengthened his right ankle following October surgery that repaired a compound fracture and dislocation. The 27-year-old quarterback remains on track for camp, but it's uncertain whether he'll be back with the Cowboys. Prescott will earn $37.6 million if he plays under the franchise tag for a second straight season, but he'd like the security of a long-term contract, specifically a four-year deal to allow for another contract while he's in his prime. The Cowboys still are an ideal situation for Prescott, as the team features an elite arsenal of offensive weapons, including Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb.

Though he told Adam Teicher of ESPN.com earlier in the week that he feels "pretty close to 100 percent" and enters the Super Bowl without an injury designation, Mahomes has been affected by the toe issue since initially picking up the injury in the Chiefs' win over the Browns in the divisional round. Mahomes lacked his usual mobility outside the pocket during the Chiefs' AFC Championship Game victory over the Bills, rushing five times for five yards. The 25-year-old still masterfully dissected the Bills defense through the air -- 29-for-38 passing for 325 yards and three touchdowns -- but the Buccaneers could present a greater challenge to the quarterback. Mahomes will be without his top left tackle (Eric Fisher, Achilles) and right tackle (Mitchell Schwartz, back) for the Super Bowl, which could make him vulnerable to pressure from star edge rushers Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaquil Barrett.

Las Vegas re-signed Peterman to a one-year extension Thursday.

Peterman only appeared in one contest in 2020, and though he ultimately lost the backup gig to Marcus Mariota, it appears that the Raiders never lost interest in his continuing development. Derek Carr and Mariota both remain under contract for 2021, likely positioning Peterman to work as the team's No. 3 option this offseason, though Carr has been connected to trade rumors and Mariota's contract does include a potential out.

McDonald is signing with the Cardinals, Kevin Zimmerman of ArizonaSports.com reports.

The Hawaii product was selected by the Titans in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was waived by the team in August and never caught on elsewhere, but he'll get a look from the Cardinals this offseason, potentially challenging Chris Streveler or Brett Hundley for a backup QB role.

Saints head coach Sean Payton said Wednesday that he hopes Winston will re-sign with New Orleans this offseason, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports.

Drew Brees is expected to retire in the coming months, while Taysom Hill is under contract through 2021 with a cap hit of $16.2 million. The Saints chose Hill over Winston when Brees missed time during the 2020 regular season, but Payton's comments suggest he'll give Winston a fair shot to win the starting job if he stays in New Orleans. Of course, the 27-year-old might find a better contract or job opportunity elsewhere, as the Saints will need to do some cap gymnastics to become compliant for 2021.

The Raiders could field trade offers for Carr this offseason, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Carr finished 2020 with career highs for passing yards (4,103), yards per attempt (7.94), passer rating (101.4) and QBR (71.0), leading an offense that ranked 10th in points per game (27.1) and tied for seventh in points per drive (2.5). He's undoubtedly a starting-caliber quarterback, but that won't necessarily stop the Raiders from pursuing an upgrade, which in this case might mean Deshaun Watson. Carr has a reasonable contract with $39.5 million (none guaranteed) due over the next two seasons, so trading him away could help the Raiders stockpile the necessary picks to make an enormous offer for Watson. Apart from the Texans' signal-caller, it isn't clear any of the available quarterback options this offseason would be an upgrade on Carr.

He bounced back to throw for 325 yards and three TDs in the AFC Championship Game, but he had just one rush attempt (for nine yards) that wasn't a kneel down. It sounds like Mahomes could be more of a rushing threat in the Super Bowl, where the Chiefs hope to get Sammy Watkins (calf) back in the lineup to face the Bucs.

Goff, two future first-round picks and a third-round pick were traded from the Rams to the Lions on Saturday in exchange for Matthew Stafford, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The trade can't become official until the start of the new league year in March, but the Rams are opting to go for broke to get an upgrade at quarterback. Goff is one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league, but his up-and-down performance led to consistent frustration for Los Angeles over the past couple years. The 26-year-old threw for 3,952 yards, 20 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 67 percent of his passes in 15 games during 2020. Goff will immediately slot in as Detroit's top quarterback and has four years and $106.6 million remaining on his contract, though only $43 million of that total is fully guaranteed.
