Justin Fields QB | NYJ
Jets' Justin Fields: Rush TD in preseason win
Fields completed three of four passes for 42 yards and rushed twice for 14 yards and a touchdown during the Jets' 30-10 preseason win over the Packers on Saturday night.
The first-team offense took the field for the Jets to start the game, and Fields was able to lead a 10-play, 79-yard drive that he capped off with a 13-yard touchdown run on New York's first possession. The veteran offseason addition was done for the night following the score, but he had his moments as a passer as well with 12- and 24-yard completions to Andrew Beck. Fields' first foray in his new offensive system has to be deemed a success, and he's likely to get even more reps during next Saturday night's exhibition against the Giants.

Max Brosmer QB | MIN
Vikings' Max Brosmer: Leads TD drive in preseason debut
Brosmer was 5-of-8 passing for 47 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason win over Houston.
Brosmer entered the game in the fourth quarter and outplayed Brett Rypien in the battle for the No. 3 QB role. It seems unlikely the Vikings will keep three quarterbacks on the roster, making Brosmer, an undrafted free agent from Minnesota, a more likely candidate for the practice squad.

Cam Ward QB | TEN
Titans' Cameron Ward: Leads two possessions
Ward completed five of eight passes for 67 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in Saturday's 29-7 preseason loss to the Buccaneers.
Ward got his first experience as a starter in the NFL and led two drives. The Titans went three-and-out on the first possession, but he then led an 11-play, 65-yard touchdown drive, during which he showed strong rapport with Calvin Ridley -- the duo connected for gains of 27, 10 and 13 yards. It was a limited sample for Ward, but it was an encouraging debut as he prepares to start from Day 1 of the regular season.

Trevor Lawrence QB | JAC
Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Leads one drive in preseason opener
Lawrence completed six of seven passes for 43 yards in Saturday's 31-25 preseason loss to the Steelers.
Lawrence played Jacksonville's first offensive possession and led the offense to a field goal. He was accurate but threw exclusively short passes, with his longest completion going for only 11 yards. Lawrence played with the entire first-team offense, and it's unclear if coach Liam Cohen plans for his starting quarterback to retake the field during the rest of the preseason.

Matthew Stafford QB | LAR
Rams' Matthew Stafford: Optimism after workout Saturday
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Saturday that Stafford (back) had no limitations in his workout earlier in the day and that the veteran QB looked great, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports. "Looking forward to progressing him back into practice on Monday," McVay stated.
An aggravated disc in his back has kept Stafford out of practice throughout the preseason, but it appears he is just about past the issue. McVay conveyed Thursday that Stafford would resume practicing Monday if his workout Saturday went well, and given the head coach's comments after the team's preseason win over Dallas, it seems likely that the star QB will indeed be able to get back on the field for Los Angeles' first practice of the week, though he will participate only in individual drills, per Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register. Jimmy Garoppolo has been handling first-team reps, but the expectation has always been that Stafford would be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

Joe Milton III QB | DAL
Cowboys' Joe Milton: Departs Saturday with elbow injury
Milton was pulled from Saturday's preseason game against the Rams due to an elbow injury, Clarence Hill Jr. of AllDLLS.com reports.
Dak Prescott didn't play Saturday, so the Cowboys gave Milton the start. The second-year QB completed 17 of 29 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding five carries for 22 yards on the ground. Milton was eventually replaced by Will Grier in the middle of a fourth-quarter drive, and it appears an elbow injury was the reason for the switch. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said after the contest that Milton bruised his elbow and will get more tests, but Schottenheimer added that he expects the QB to be fine, per Todd Archer of ESPN.com.

Sam Howell QB | PHI
Vikings' Sam Howell: Runs for TD against Texans
Howell completed 11 of 13 passes for 105 yards and added two yards and a touchdown on four carries in Saturday's 20-10 preseason win over Houston.
J.J. McCarthy got the start for Minnesota but played only one drive before turning things over to Howell, who produced points on his first two possessions in a very efficient performance, including a one-yard TD on a QB sneak late in the second quarter. The former starter for the Commanders is set to be the backup for the Vikings this season, and that experience could come in handy for Howell if McCarthy -- who missed his entire rookie season in 2024 due to knee surgery -- has trouble staying healthy once again.

J.J. McCarthy QB | MIN
Vikings' J.J. McCarthy: Plays one drive Saturday
McCarthy completed four of seven passes for 30 yards and added eight yards on his only carry in Saturday's 20-10 preseason win over the Texans.
Seeing his first NFL game action since undergoing knee surgery in August 2024, McCarthy played just one possession and led the Vikings to a field goal, with his longest completion going for 18 yards to Jordan Addison. Neither Justin Jefferson (hamstring) nor T.J. Hockenson (leg) suited up for Saturday's contest, and whatever chemistry McCarthy develops with Addison will get shelved until Week 4 due to the wideout's looming suspension, but the top priority for the young QB this preseason is just to stay healthy as he heads into his first season as Minnesota's starter.
-
Baker Mayfield QB | TB
Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Not playing in preseason opener
Mayfield isn't participating in Saturday's preseason game against Tennessee, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
Baker is among a group of healthy Buccaneers starters who aren't playing, including fellow offensive standouts Bucky Irving and Mike Evans. Kyle Trask is getting a chance to lead Tampa Bay's offense early in the contest. Teddy Bridgewater and/or rookie Connor Bazelak should get a look behind center late in the game.
-
Davis Mills QB | HOU
Texans' Davis Mills: Tosses TD on only drive Saturday
Mills completed four of five passes for 50 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 20-10 preseason loss to the Vikings.
The 26-year-old backup quarterback got the start due to C.J. Stroud being held out of the Texans' exhibition opener, but Mills played only one drive, which he capped with a 14-yard TD to Braxton Berrios. Mills is set as Houston's No. 2 QB, but it's a role that hasn't led him to much action since Stroud got to town, as the former has attempted only 75 passes in 10 regular-season games over the last two seasons.
