  • Taysom Hill QB | NO

Saints' Taysom Hill: Dealing with knee issue

Hill was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's estimated practice report due to a knee injury, Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

After opening the season with just three carries for four yards and no catches on his only target Week 1 against the Titans, Hill was a much bigger part of the Saints offense Monday at Carolina, rushing nine times for 75 yards, hauling in one of two targets for minus-1 yard and completing his only pass for eight yards. The increased usage initially may have been game-plan specific, but Jamaal Williams' (hamstring) departure in the second quarter also played a role. With Williams likely to miss some time and Alvin Kamara still needing to serve one more game of his suspension, Hill may continue to mix into the backfield along with Tony Jones and potentially Kendre Miller (hamstring) in the short term, assuming his own knee injury doesn't hold him back.

  • Jake Luton QB | LV

    Jake Luton: Returns to Carolina

Luton signed with the Panthers' practice squad Wednesday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.

Luton was waived by the team just before rosters were trimmed down to 53 in August. With Bryce Young dealing with an ankle injury, the Oregon State product will likely serve as an option behind Andy Dalton, if Young were to miss, as Carolina didn't previously have a third quarterback on its practice squad or active roster.

  • Andy Dalton QB | PHI

Panthers' Andy Dalton: Leads starters with Young injured

Dalton led the starting offense in Wednesday's practice with Bryce Young unavailable due to an ankle injury, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.

Young wasn't removed from Monday's 20-17 loss to the Saints -- apart from one short-yardage snap that Dalton took -- but the rookie apparently injured his ankle at some point and is now looking iffy for Sunday's game in Seattle. It might help the Carolina pass catchers if Dalton ends up under center for a week or two, as Young ranks last among qualified passers with 4.2 yards per attempt through the first two games of the season.

  • Bryce Young QB | CAR

Panthers' Bryce Young: Tending to ankle injury

Young didn't participate in Wednesday's walk-through practice due to an ankle injury.

Young picked up the ankle injury during Monday's 20-17 loss to the Saints, and his status for Carolina's Week 3 matchup with the Seahawks looks uncertain at the moment. Head coach Frank Reich said that Thursday's practice will reveal more information about Young's status fort his weekend, according to Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site. Carolina has a capable veteran in Andy Dalton ready to step up under center if Young is forced to miss any time.

  • Colts' Anthony Richardson: Won't practice Wednesday

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that Richardson remains in the NFL's concussion protocol and won't practice Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

Center Ryan Kelly (concussion) will also sit out Wednesday's session, with Steichen adding that both players are "progressing well" as they navigate the five-step protocol. Richardson will have two more chances to practice in advance of Sunday's game against the Ravens, but in the meantime, Gardner Minshew is in line to handle first-team quarterback reps.

  • Kenny Pickett QB | CAR

Steelers' Kenny Pickett: Inefficient in MNF win

Pickett completed 15 of 30 pass attempts for 222 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Monday's 26-22 win over the Browns.

Pickett struggled with consistency for the second game in a row, leaving him with just two touchdowns to three interceptions to start the season. In the second-year starter's defense, he has gone up against two of the league's best pass rushers in Nick Bosa and Myles Garrett. The 25-year-old did appear to be favoring his left arm after throwing his lone touchdown Monday, but he was back on the field the next time Pittsburgh's offense received the ball, according to Steelers reporter Dale Lolley. Pickett will be relieved to see Las Vegas on the schedule for Week 3, as it presents a far-softer matchup on paper compared to his previous two opponents.

  • Deshaun Watson QB | CLE

Browns' Deshaun Watson: Struggles in Week 2 loss

Watson completed 22 of 40 passes for 235 yards with one touchdown and one interception while adding six rushes for 22 yards in the Browns' 26-22 loss to the Steelers on Monday night. He also lost two fumbles and ran for a two-point conversion.

Watson's busy but ultimately uneven stat line is somewhat of a microcosm of what is now an eight-game starting stint with the Browns. His second fumble was also highly costly, as he lost the handle on a sack by Alex Highsmith, and the ball was scooped up by T.J. Watt for a 16-yard touchdown that would turn out to be the difference in the game. The veteran quarterback still doesn't appear completely comfortable in head coach Kevin Stefanski's offense, and outside of his clear chemistry with Amari Cooper, Watson has had trouble consistently connecting with complementary options like Elijah Moore and Donovan Peoples-Jones over the first pair of contests this season. Watson could certainly also be affected by the loss of Nick Chubb to what appears to be a season-ending knee injury, as despite second-year back Jerome Ford's impressive showing in Chubb's stead Monday night, there will likely be more defensive attention focused on Cleveland's air attack for the time being. Watson does draw a favorable matchup on paper Week 3 when the Titans come to town.

  • Taysom Hill QB | NO

Saints' Taysom Hill: Leading rusher in Week 2 win

Hill completed his only pass attempt for eight yards, rushed nine times for 75 yards and caught one of two targets for minus-1 yard in Monday's 20-17 win over the Panthers.

Hill accounted for 75 of the Saints' 134 rushing yards in a game that saw Jamaal Williams (hamstring) exit in the first half. Tony Jones replaced Williams and scored both of New Orleans' touchdowns, but Hill got some reps at running back in addition to his customary wildcat quarterback role. With Alvin Kamara still serving his three-game suspension and the availability of both Williams and Kendre Miller up in the air due to hamstring injuries, the versatile Hill could find himself playing an outsized role in New Orleans' running game again Week 3 against the Packers.

  • Bryce Young QB | CAR

Panthers' Bryce Young: Struggles in Week 2 loss

Young completed 22 of 33 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 20-17 loss to the Saints. He also threw a two-point conversion, rushed twice for 34 yards and lost a fumble.

Young took advantage of favorable field position to lead field-goal drives in the first and third quarters, but he lost a costly fumble just outside the red zone with Carolina trailing 6-3 late in the first half and had another would-be lost fumble in the third quarter erased by a defensive holding penalty. The first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft led the Panthers to another field goal in the fourth before finally leading a touchdown drive in the final minutes with the Saints playing prevent defense up multiple scores. Young connected with Adam Thielen for both a three-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion on that final drive. A Week 3 road matchup against a Seattle defense that allowed 30 or more points in each of its first two games could help Young post a breakout performance after throwing for 299 combined yards over his first two NFL starts.

  • Derek Carr QB | NO

Saints' Derek Carr: Wins despite zero passing TDs

Carr completed 21 of 36 passes for 228 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Monday's 20-17 win over the Panthers. He also had minus-4 rushing yards on three attempts.

Carr didn't fare well in his introduction to the low-scoring Saints-Panthers rivalry, but he ultimately did enough to lead his team to victory. He was picked off in the second quarter and failed to produce a touchdown on the team's two first-half trips into the red zone, but Carr's 42-yard pass to Chris Olave helped set up Tony Jones' go-ahead, two-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Carr added a 45-yard pass to Rashid Shaheed to set up another two-yard Jones rushing touchdown in the fourth. New Orleans' prized free-agent acquisition has one touchdown versus two interceptions through two games with his new team, but Carr has led the Saints to a 2-0 start heading into a Week 3 trip to Green Bay.
