• Capitals' Pierre-Luc Dubois: Moving to Washington

  Dubois was acquired by the Capitals from the Kings on Wednesday in exchange for Darcy Kuemper. The Kings made a big bet on Dubois in the summer of 2023, trading Alex Iafallo, Gabriel Vilardi, Rasmus Kupari and a 2024 second-round pick to get him from the Jets. The move also involved signing Dubois to an eight-year, $68 million contract. The idea was that the center, who provides a strong blend of grit and skill, would make the Kings deep up the middle in the short term and perhaps even be the eventual successor to Anze Kopitar. However, Dubois went from recording at least 60 points in each of his previous two campaigns to finishing with 16 goals and 40 points across 82 regular-season contests in 2023-24. Averaging 15:42 of ice time this season, down from 18:27 in 2022-23, probably didn't help his offensive production, so perhaps the move to Washington will do him some good. Nicklas Backstrom (hip) isn't expected to play at all next season, which leaves the door open for Dubois to possibly serve as the Capitals' top-line center.

• Kings' Pierre-Luc Dubois: Nets goal in Game 1 loss

  Dubois scored a goal on three shots, added four PIM and dished out five hits in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Oilers in Game 1. Dubois' goal late in the third period was little more than window dressing in the high-scoring loss. The 25-year-old had five points over the last nine games of the regular season, finishing the campaign at 40 points in 82 appearances. He's still in a bottom-six role in the playoffs, and he'll likely stay there as long as both Anze Kopitar and Phillip Danault are healthy.

• Kings' Pierre-Luc Dubois: Tallies on power play

  Dubois scored a power-play goal on three shots in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Ducks. Dubois got the promotion to the top line since Anze Kopitar (undisclosed) did not play. The goal was Dubois' first since March 15, though he managed nine assists in the 13 contests between goals. The 25-year-old center is up to 16 tallies, 40 points, 146 shots on net, 95 hits, 70 PIM and a minus-9 rating through 80 appearances. He's significantly down from his 63 points in 2022-23, but it hasn't helped that the Kings forward spent the vast majority of the campaign on the third line.

  Dubois notched an assist in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Sharks. Dubois has four helpers over his last two contests and nine assists over 10 games since his last goal. The 25-year-old center continues to fill in on the second line while Phillip Danault (upper body) is on the mend. Dubois has 39 points, 138 shots on net, 95 hits, 70 PIM and a minus-9 rating over 76 appearances this season, primarily in a third-line role.

  Dubois notched three assists and went plus-2 in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Kraken. Dubois helped out on all three goals of Trevor Moore's hat trick. After a three-game dry spell, it's a positive to see Dubois check in on offense, especially with Phillip Danault (upper body) out of the lineup. Dubois has eight helpers over nine games since his last goal, and the 25-year-old is at 38 points, 137 shots on net, 95 hits, 70 PIM and a minus-10 rating through 75 appearances this season.
