  • Red Wings' Alex Lyon: Leaky in loss
    By RotoWire

Lyon allowed four goals on 27 shots in Friday's 4-3 overtime exhibition loss versus Ottawa. Lyon is currently embroiled in an intriguing three-way battle for positioning on Detroit's goaltending depth chart with Cam Talbot and Ville Husso. Lyon had the largest workload of his career in 2023-24, appearing in 44 regular-season games while posting a 21-18-5 record, .904 save percentage and 3.05 GAA. The 31-year-old is entering his second season with the Red Wings.

  • Lyon is expected to start at home in Friday's preseason game against Chicago, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports Thursday. Lyon had a 21-18-5 record, 3.05 GAA and .904 save percentage in 44 regular-season contests in 2023-24. The plan is for Lyon to serve for two periods Friday before Cam Talbot steps in for the third frame. Talbot is projected to be the Red Wings' No. 1 goalie in 2024-25, but with Lyon and Ville Husso also set to make the team, it's going to be difficult for any one netminder to rack up a lot of starts in Detroit.

  • Lyon allowed four goals on 21 shots during Monday's 5-4 overtime win against Montreal. Lyon shouldered the heaviest workload of his NHL career this season, going 21-18-5 through 44 games. His .904 save percentage is the result of his roller-coaster play, which can even been seen in recent games. Following two strong games, he has allowed 10 goals on 48 shots over his last two outings.
