Maxim Groshev D | TB
Lightning's Maxim Groshev: Dropped to minors
Groshev was demoted to AHL Syracuse on Monday.
Groshev has been a healthy scratch for seven of his eight games on the NHL roster, posting an assist in his lone appearance for the Lightning this year. While the team could bring another defenseman up from the minors ahead of Tuesday's game versus Colorado, the decision to reassign Groshev could be an indication that Ryan McDonagh (undisclosed) is close to returning.

Matthew Schaefer D | NYI
Islanders' Matthew Schaefer: Dealing with illness
Schaefer will not practice Monday due to an illness.
Schaefer was labeled as day-to-day by the team ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Devils. After a slow end to 2025 saw the young blueliner notch just two points in seven games from Dec. 16-30, he has bounced back with the flip of the calendar, generating three goals on five shots in two January contests. If Schaefer can't go Tuesday, Tony DeAngelo could see more responsibility with the No. 1 power-play unit.

Jonas Siegenthaler D | NJ
Devils' Jonas Siegenthaler: Two helpers over last three outings
Siegenthaler notched an assist in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
Siegenthaler has two helpers over his last three games. Prior to that, he had gone 27 contests without a point despite occupying a steady top-four role for the Devils this season. He's more of a shutdown blueliner, so a long drought isn't too surprising. The 28-year-old is now at four assists, 36 shots on net, 61 hits, 70 blocked shots, 29 PIM and a minus-6 rating over 42 appearances.

Aaron Ekblad D | FLA
Panthers' Aaron Ekblad: Buries goal Sunday
Ekblad scored a goal on two shots and added three hits in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Avalanche.
Ekblad has picked up the pace with two goals and three assists over his last six outings. He could be set for a larger role while Seth Jones (upper body) is on the mend. Ekblad's first half of 2025-26 hasn't been anything special -- he's now at three goals and 16 points, as well as 60 shots on net, 51 hits, 68 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 40 appearances this season. That puts him on pace to miss the 40-point mark for the fourth year in a row, though he's close enough that a hot second half could reverse his fortunes.

Devon Toews D | COL
Avalanche's Devon Toews: Going to miss some time
Head coach Jared Bednar said Sunday that Toews (upper body) is going to miss some time, according to Corey Masisak of The Denver Post.
Toews was injured Saturday against the Hurricanes and missed his first game of the season Sunday versus the Panthers. Ilya Solovyov entered Sunday's lineup due to Toews' injury, and the former should receive consistent playing time on the third pairing while Toews is sidelined. Samuel Girard will likely continue to skate next to Cale Makar for the duration of Toews' absence.

Vincent Desharnais D | SJ
Sharks' Vincent Desharnais: Making progress in recovery
Desharnais (upper body) participated in Sunday's practice and could be an option to return to the lineup Tuesday against Columbus, per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.
Desharnais has been sidelined for 17 straight games, as he hasn't been in the lineup since Nov. 26 in Colorado. If Desharnais is given the green light to play Tuesday, he will likely be eased into action in a third-pairing role. The 29-year-old has accounted for two helpers, 28 hits, 34 blocked shots, 32 PIM and a plus-1 rating over 20 outings this season.

Shakir Mukhamadullin D | SJ
Sharks' Shakir Mukhamadullin: Considered day-to-day
Mukhamadullin is being evaluated for an upper-body injury and is day-to-day, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports Sunday.
Mukhamadullin didn't practice Sunday due to an injury he suffered in Saturday's 7-3 loss to Tampa Bay. The Sharks have a back-to-back set on tap against the Blue Jackets on Tuesday and in Los Angeles on Wednesday. John Klingberg (lower body) has been ruled out for those games, so if Mukhamadullin ends up being unable to play, Nick Leddy and Vincent Desharnais (upper body) will be potential options to draw into the lineup.

John Klingberg D | SJ
Sharks' John Klingberg: Won't play this week
Head coach Ryan Warsofsky relayed Sunday that Klingberg (lower body) won't play this week, according to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.
Klingberg sustained a lower-body injury during Wednesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Wild and missed Saturday's game against the Lightning as a result. The Sharks have two back-to-back sets coming up, and it remains to be seen if Klingberg will be available for the last of those four games against the Golden Knights on Jan. 11. The right-shot blueliner was playing well prior to getting hurt, producing six goals, nine points and a plus-6 rating across his last 11 appearances.

Logan Stanley D | BUF
Jets' Logan Stanley: Lands one-game ban
Stanley received a one-game suspension from the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday for roughing Ottawa's Brady Tkachuk on Saturday.
Stanley won't be available for Tuesday's matchup against Vegas due to the suspension, but he will be eligible to return against Edmonton on Thursday. He has generated seven goals, 13 points, 44 shots on net, 43 blocked shots, 67 hits and 82 PIM across 40 appearances this season. Haydn Fleury or Luke Schenn will replace Stanley in Tuesday's lineup against the Golden Knights.

Devon Toews D | COL
Avalanche's Devon Toews: Unavailable Sunday
Toews (upper body) isn't expected to play against Florida on Sunday, Corey Masisak of The Denver Post reports.
Toews managed to return to Saturday's 5-3 win over Carolina after crashing into the end boards, but he will miss at least one game. He has produced one goal, 12 assists, 68 shots on net and 58 blocked shots across 40 appearances this season. With Toews unavailable, Ilya Solovyov will play against the Panthers on Sunday.
