Mario Ferraro D | SJ
Sharks' Mario Ferraro: Pots goal in overtime loss
Ferraro scored a goal on two shots and blocked five shots in Saturday's 7-6 overtime loss to the Ducks.
Ferraro has a goal, four shots on net and seven blocks over two games this season. While the Sharks made additions to their blue line in the offseason, Ferraro's defensive skill set will keep him in a top-four role. He's logged 100-plus hits in all six of his NHL campaigns and has added at least 125 blocks in four straight seasons. However, he's topped the 20-point mark just once and will likely struggle to get to that level of offense in 2025-26. Ferraro is in a contract year and could be a trade candidate in the likely event the Sharks aren't in the playoff picture in March.

John Klingberg D | SJ
Sharks' John Klingberg: Strikes on power play
Klingberg scored a power-play goal and added two PIM in Saturday's 7-6 overtime loss to the Ducks.
Klingberg restored a lead for the Sharks, putting them up 4-3 in the second period with his first goal of the season. The 33-year-old defenseman had a middling stint with the Ducks in 2022-23, earning 24 points over 50 appearances, though it was a productive and healthy campaign compared to the last two years. Klingberg is positioned to play a top-four role with ample power-play time to start 2025-26. He already has two points this year, both of which have come with the man advantage.

Radko Gudas D | ANA
Ducks' Radko Gudas: Pockets helper
Gudas logged an assist, two shots on goal, two hits, three blocked shots and a minus-3 rating in Saturday's 7-6 overtime win over the Sharks.
Gudas will be a key defensive presence for the Ducks, and he should continue to offer his trademark elite physicality. The 35-year-old defenseman isn't a regular on the scoresheet, as he's missed the 20-point mark in six straight seasons. However, he has topped 200 hits in five consecutive years, and he's logged at least 100 blocked shots for four years in a row. Gudas can help in banger leagues but won't do much for fantasy managers in standard formats.

Maxwell Crozier D | TB
Lightning's Max Crozier: First multi-pointer of career
Crozier put up two assists in a 5-3 loss to the Devils on Saturday.
It was his first multipoint game in the NHL. The 25-year-old Crozier played 13 regular-season games in 2023-24 and five regular-season outings last year. He's living out his dream, skating alongside Victor Hedman on Tampa's first pair. Crozier's fantasy value is limited, but this is a great story.

Brent Burns D | COL
Avalanche's Brent Burns: Records helper in 1,500th game
Burns posted an assist, three shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Stars.
The helper was Burns' first point in three outings for the Avalanche. This was also his 1,500th NHL game, making him the 23rd player in league history to suit up that many times in the regular season. He's made the last 928 of those appearances consecutively as the player with the longest active ironman streak. Considering he's still playing north of 20 minutes per game makes it all the more impressive for the 40-year-old defenseman, who has settled into a top-four role to begin his time in Colorado.

Ryan McDonagh D | TB
Lightning's Ryan McDonagh: Sharp one-timer finds twine
McDonagh scored a goal in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Lightning.
Late in the second period, McDonagh made the score 3-2 with a one-timer from above the left circle that beat Jacob Markstrom to the stick side. McDonagh's 36 years old with more than 1,000 regular-season games under his belt (1,012). He will get a lot of ice time, but his fantasy value is limited.

Ilya Lyubushkin D | DAL
Stars' Ilya Lyubushkin: Provides assist
Lyubushkin notched an assist, four PIM and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over the Avalanche.
Five of the Stars' six defensemen got on the scoresheet in this contest. Lyubushkin made his contribution with the secondary helper on Jason Robertson's goal in the second period. This was Lyubushkin's first point in two games to go with two hits, two blocked shots, six PIM and a plus-3 rating. The 31-year-old adds little offense to the mix but can provide a bit of physicality, though he had just 84 hits in 80 regular-season outings in 2024-25.
-
Esa Lindell D | DAL
Stars' Esa Lindell: Nabs assist Saturday
Lindell recorded an assist, three hits and two blocked shots in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over the Avalanche.
Lindell is a top-four lock on the blue line for the Stars, though he lacks the scoring upside of teammates Miro Heiskanen and Thomas Harley. The 31-year-old Lindell continues to provide physicality in a shutdown role, and he typically chips in around 25 points per season. Through two games this year, the blueliner has two shots on net, four hits and three blocks in addition to his helper.
-
Thomas Harley D | DAL
Stars' Thomas Harley: One of each Saturday
Harley scored a goal on two shots, added an assist, blocked four shots and logged two PIM in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over the Avalanche.
Harley opened the scoring in the first period and set up a Jason Robertson tally in the second. With a goal, three assists and nine blocks over the first two games of the season, Harley is picking up right where he left off last year. The 24-year-old defenseman has high-end scoring skills from the blue line and should be rostered in virtually all fantasy formats.

Luke Hughes D | NJ
Devils' Luke Hughes: Four assists in two games
Hughes had two assists Saturday in a 5-3 win over Tampa Bay.
The third NHL Hughes could be the best of the lot, at least according to his older brothers Quinn Hughes and Jack Hughes. The youngest Hughes plays with the poise of a 30-year-old, and he already has four assists in two games. Hughes commands the ice and will shatter his current 47-point career mark this season. Put it on the board.
