Philipp Grubauer G | SEA
Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: In net against Calgary
Grubauer was the first goaltender off the ice at Tuesday's morning skate, according to Mike Benton of the Kraken Audio Network, indicating that he will start in Calgary.
Grubauer is expected to start the season as Seattle's No. 2 netminder, but he has competition for that role in the form of Matt Murray, who signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the club July 1. Grubauer underwhelmed in 2024-25, but general manager Jason Botterill said in June that the team believes Grubauer can have a bounce-back season.

Adin Hill G | LV
Golden Knights' Adin Hill: Exits ice first Tuesday
Hill was the first goalie off the ice Tuesday, Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports, indicating he'll guard the cage at home versus the Kings.
Hill reached the 30-win threshold for the first time in his career last season, posting a 32-13-5 record with a 2.47 GAA and four shutouts in 50 regular-season appearances for the Knights. With Ilya Samsonov leaving as a free agent, it will be Hill's net heading into 2025-26 with Akira Schmid serving as the No. 2 option.

Arvid Soderblom G | CHI
Blackhawks' Arvid Soderblom: Tending twine in Detroit
Soderblom will get the start in preseason action against the Red Wings on Tuesday, and he's expected to play the entire game, Charlie Roumeliotis of WGN Radio.
After signing a two-year, $5.5 million contract with Chicago in late July, Soderblom will start the season as the backup to Spencer Knight. The 26-year-old Soderblom registered a 10-18-7 record, .898 save percentage and 3.18 GAA over 36 appearances last season, but he shouldn't be in danger of losing playing time in 2025-26 so long as Laurent Brossoit (hip) remains on the shelf.

Calvin Petersen G | MIN
Wild's Cal Petersen: Starting in Dallas
Peterson will start in Tuesday's road exhibition game versus the Stars, and the plan is for the netminder to play all three periods, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.
Petersen will don the Wild sweater for the first time after signing a one-year, $775,000 contract in free agency. The 30-year-old is competing with Jesper Wallstedt for the No. 2 gig behind Filip Gustavsson in training camp. Petersen struggled with AHL Lehigh Valley in 2024-25, posting a 13-15-3 record, .885 save percentage and 3.14 GAA, so he may not have the inside track to win the backup role in Minnesota.

Samuel Ersson G | PHI
Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Starting in Montreal
Ersson will defend the road net in preseason action against the Canadiens on Tuesday, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Ersson is poised to stay in the crease for the entire game. He earned a 22-17-5 record with two shutouts, a 3.14 GAA and an .883 save percentage across 47 regular-season appearances in 2024-25.

Leevi Merilainen G | OTT
Senators' Leevi Merilainen: Tending twine Tuesday
Merilainen will defend the road cage versus the Leafs in Tuesday's preseason matchup, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.
Merilainen is expected to face a fairly heavy NHL lineup from Toronto on Tuesday. While Linus Ullmark is cemented as the No. 1 in Ottawa this year, the 23-year-old Merilainen should be able to secure the backup job and play in upward of 30 regular-season games. In his 12 outings last season, the Finn posted an impressive 8-3-1 record to go with a 1.99 GAA and three shutouts.

Eric Comrie G | WPG
Jets' Eric Comrie: First off at morning skate
Comrie is slated to draw the home start in Tuesday's preseason game versus Edmonton, according to Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press.
Comrie heads into the 2025-26 campaign locked in as the No. 2 option between the pipes behind Connor Hellebuyck for the second time in the last four years. The 30-year-old Comrie was a serviceable backup option in 2024-25, as he posted a 2.39 GAA and a .914 save percentage, but he wasn't provided with much support -- he had a 9-10-1 record over 20 regular-season appearances.

Brandon Halverson G | TB
Lightning's Brandon Halverson: Between pipes versus Preds
Halverson will tend the twine on the road in preseason action against Nashville on Tuesday, Benjamin Pierce of the Lightning's official site reports.
Halverson is expected to get the first two periods before 2025 seventh-round pick Caleb Heil takes the third. It would take an extremely strong preseason performance for Halverson to put himself into the mix for a spot on the Opening Night roster, as Andrei Vasilevskiy and Jonas Johansson are cemented as the netminding duo.

Marcus Hogberg G | NYI
Islanders' Marcus Hogberg: Gets starting nod Tuesday
Hogberg will be between the pipes versus the Devils in Tuesday's road preseason contest, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Hogberg faces an uphill battle trying to unseat David Rittich as the No. 2 option behind Ilya Sorokin this season. The 30-year-old Hogberg's chances of appearing in an NHL game in 2025-26 will be even further diminished if Semyon Varlamov (knee) is cleared to continue playing. As such, Hogberg's time in training camp is likely to come to an end sooner rather than later.

Dustin Wolf G | CGY
Flames' Dustin Wolf: In goal Tuesday
Wolf will get the starting nod at home against the Kraken in Tuesday's preseason tilt, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Wolf cashed in this offseason, signing a seven-year, $52.5 million extension with the Flames in September. With his new deal in place, the young netminder enters the 2025-26 campaign as the clear No. 1 for Calgary with Ivan Prosvetov and Devin Cooley battling for the backup gig. Wolf played in 53 regular-season games last year, going 29-16-8, and should face a similar workload this season as well.
